Gametrailers got their hands on the debut trailer for Namco Bandai's forthcoming slasher title: Splatterhouse

The Splatterhouse franchise began on the Turbografix-16, before eventually migrating to the Sega Genesis. It was one of the first horror themed video games, and is fondly remembered by gamers of a certain age.

I dig the new logo but the teaser itself does very little for me.

The graphics aren't as good as they ought to be. I mean, they look like PS2 graphics. Not much was shown though, so I'll keep my mind open.

You've been away from the PS2 too long. They don't look fantastic, but come on now......
The teaser did nothing for me. The guy's voice didn't fit at all.

Don't like the new look of the guy...

I'll wait and give it a chance simply because Splatterhouse was one of the first gory games I ever played.
That being said, the guy's voice doesn't fit his "HULK SMASH" look at all...and why does he look like the Hulk again? He's supposed to look more like Jason.
I'm not at all interested in playing as a big hulking bodybuilder with a crazy person's mask. Plus, there was very little game footage. I'll look again after it's released, but this definitely turned me OFF of tracking the game.

It began in the arcade, actually..
Caused a huge ruckus at my local spot when the machine showed up, too -- the graphics were just amazing for the time, and the content.. oh man do I ever have fond memories of this game.
Passing on the reboot though.

Well I guess I'll be the first here to gush...
OMG!!! I was a huge fan of Splatterhouse 2 and 3 on the Genesis. A few years ago, I started working on a design doc for an updated Splatterhouse game. It is so great to see that it appears the devs are staying true to the roots. Keep it campy. Keep it cliche`.
I for one can live with the dude's voice. It is the mask's voice that they better get right. It was originally voiced by squiggly text.....so everyone has their own interpretation of what squiggly text sounded like.
Seriously, who DOESN'T want an over-the-top gory beat 'em up with wicked monsters???

The voice doesn't bother me as much as how hulkified he seems to be. I'm hoping that's what he looks like when he's "raging", and he looks more normal the rest of the time. But so far only this huge look has been shown.

I just wish they'd stick closer to that design.

My thoughts as well.

I challenge the notion that any significant number of people were asking for a new game in this franchise, or that the franchise is good enough to warrant releasing it on new players.

This is coming to the 360 and PS3? I thought this was a Wii title. It looks like one.

I want!! I'll be the second to say i'll take this game...mindless hack and slash can be good for the soul every once in a while. Just make it playable enough so it's possible to finish :D. I'm not looking for a AAA title here...I don't expect nor want top notch graphics. The graphics looked good enough to me...now just give me a save anywhere and I have the ability to pick it up, slash a few monsters...i'm happy...

Eh, I know I wasn't. That said, I am interested to see what they're going to do with it here.

This really doesn't interest me all that much, especially if it's released for $60. I think they would have been better served by releasing an updated version of the originals on XBLA and PSN.

I like that design as well, but in the 3rd game, they added the hulk-out mode.
This installment of the Splatterhouse series also introduced another power of the Terror Mask. During gameplay, you will periodically find Eldritch Orbs which will fill a power meter at the bottom of the screen when collected. When the appropriate button is pressed while the power meter is charged, you will witness Rick transforming into a hulking and more monstrous version of himself with the Terror Mask being seemingly fused to his head. In this state Rick is significantly stronger and can execute a special attack that involves pieces of his flesh extending from his chest area and acting as a weapon, injuring any monster in the vicinity of their reach. Also, instead of actually wielding the weapons he finds, the mutated version of Rick simply flings them at enemies, dealing a fair bit more damage than swinging the weapons as normal Rick would have.

So it looks like the new design either has this hulk-out mode as well, or he may just always be this way now. Personally, I hope they use both designs again. Gameplay-wise, it's nice to have that limited super-charged destroy-everything upper hand. (For some reason, Pac-Man just came to mind.)

Everything from that mid-80s to early 90s zone is being brought back in some way, shape or form.

And much of it is being violated in the eyes of the people old enough to remember the originals. Look at the upcoming G.I. JOE movie and tell me fans from the early 80's (me) would go see a version with Marlon Wayans and an assortment of A&F models in black body suits.
I hope this game revives Splatterhouse as I always liked the games, but I just get the feeling it will end up a blatant cash in. I'm not judging it yet, I just have that feeling.

That's just our childhood being raped.
