View Full Version : DHL Fail

So I bought some RAM on Newegg. When the tracking info finally showed up on DHL (Global Mail), it said it was shipping to some city in South Dakota - with a zipcode which is very similar to my zipcode. I e-mailed newegg support, and they said that the correct address was given to DHL, so I should contact DHL, or if I haven't received it in 7 days, contact Newegg again.
I tried calling DHL Global Main customer service, and of course they don't have office hours on the weekend. I tried contacting USPS, as the package went from Global Mail to USPS, but they can't tell me where the package is going, based on my tracking number. They just say to wait 15 days to see if it shows up.
So I don't know if my package is being delivered to some address in South Dakota, or if that's just some midpoint where DHL transfers it to USPS or what.
Actually, the tracking went from TN to KY, where it says it was "TENDERED TO USPS", then to Sioux Falls, SD, where it's currently enroute. So from this point, it could head north to me in MN, or to this town in western SD... Yeah, it's probably going the wrong way...
It hasn't been 7 days since the shipment started, so it's not late yet. It's still in transit, according to DHL. I'm just pissed that no one can tell me where it's going. Anyone else had issues like this with DHL Global Mail?

Yeah, I discovered the whole USPS and DHL bullshit a month or so ago. The tracking number I was given for my order only worked with DHL and they stop tracking the package after they give it to the USPS. Of course, they don't bother to obtain a USPS tracking number to give to you. Once its in the hands of the USPS you just have to sit back, wait, and hope.
Honestly I don't even understand why retailers use DHL. Everything ends up being delivered by the USPS, they may as well just use them and save a few bucks.

Just tell NewEgg that you haven't received the product and you want them to fix it. Did you pay for any sort of express shipping?

yes they use UPS!The item I ordered was listed as "Free 3-7 Business Day Shipping." (Called "Egg Saver (3 - 7 Days)" at checkout.) They don't actually tell you it's going DHL or USPS until after it's shipped. You can select other shipping methods, but usually they're not cheap, even for tiny things like RAM.
Looking at it now, the cheapest option was $6.99 for UPS Guaranteed 3 Day. Which isn't so bad, but I didn't really care how fast it got here. I just want it to get here.Just tell NewEgg that you haven't received the product and you want them to fix it. Did you pay for any sort of express shipping?Free shipping. I have to wait until it's been 7 days before they'll do something about it.

I will attest to DHL hatred. Never had good experiences with them, either in my personal crap or customer crap when I was in shipping/receiving. FedEx is Nor-Cal is fantastic. No reason to go anywhere else.

Well, on my lunch break, I called DHL. They said it was going to that city in South Dakota, and that it was Newegg's fault, and they can't change anything about the shipment. I call Newegg, and say that they can refund the original order if it's shipped to the wrong place and I can re-order. And the support guy said he could make a note on my account to get upgraded UPS shipping at no cost, if I had to reorder.
Of course, it's in the mail when I get home from work today, and I'm now running 3.5GB (XP Pro 32-bit). Label on the package had the right zipcode.
So my only assumption, then, is that someone at Newegg or DHL fat-fingered the zipcode somewhere... Transposing two digits just doesn't seem like the kind of mistake an automated system makes.

My UPS and FedEx packages arrived without problems today. :)
I've had problems with DHL before. Either they made me pay extra shipping on top of the shipping costs I already paid, or they charged me double the price of what I bought to deliver the stuff I bought.

We always refer to DHL as Deliver Halfway Lost.

I cannot say more that I detest DHL. I'm on a first name basis with most of their reps. With my job I will have to ship preloaded drives, or software sets to stores where the PC has crapped the bed for one reason or another, and god forbid if you ship on Friday with Saturday delivery checked. Cause that damn package won't make it there till Monday, or Tuesday. It happens 80% of the time.
I've gotten to the point of just calling on a Saturday, and telling them it's coming from destination zip XXXXX to, XXXXX. Where is it? And they're pretty quick about tracking it down.

I got an email this morning from FedEx about how they have my back since DHL sucks a dick.
If you're concerned by published reports about DHL's reduced capabilities, choose FedEx for all of your shipments, especially during the holidays.

Haha, that's great.
I've been a big fan of UPS. Next up is Fedex (though I've had issues with them), then DHL, and last is USPS.
Why USPS last? Because my post office sucks so bad, I've only had one package arrive without issue through them :/.

I know all too well the incompetence of the USPS. I've had problems with nearly every post office in the Orlando/Winter Park area.

Strangely, I love the USPS, though I'll admit they haven't really stepped up their efforts to combat the competition. Mind you, I have a box at their building simply because I don't trust my neighborhood (I get a lot of packages) and only go there like once a week, so that may skew things for me a bit.

Isn't DHL closing, or laying off a bunch of people or something?

Not DHL-related, but the last time I ordered something online (2 micro SD cards a couple weeks ago), it definitely didn't get to me like it was supposed to.
FedEx's website said they had delivered the package (using my tracking number) on their website, so I called them the next day and asked what was up - we'd been home all day, and no one had come knocking. The manager said that the delivery person hadn't come back to the depot from the field yet, and he'd call me when that happened.
Didn't happen, so I called him back the following day. His response - "The delivery person dropped it off as instructed - maybe someone stole it from in front of your door." I told him that we were home all day, and no one came - we never heard knocking, and we would've, as our living room is right near the front door. He gave me, "Well, no offense, but I have to take the word of my delivery guy that he dropped it off - and it's nowhere in our depot or in our trucks. I can't really help you out beyond that."
I didn't know where else to go from there. Needless to say, I was a little angry.

So did they eventually admit to delivering it to the wrong address? Did you get the seller to re-ship it?

There's been times when I'm home all day and they don't even bother to knock, I just happen to go out side and what do you know? Package sitting on the porch waiting for anyone to come along and pick it up.

Yeah, I've pretty much had to assume that something along that line happened. Or, alternatively, that the guy just left it on our front step that day and it blew away - the wind that day was pretty intense.
Though you'd think it'd be common sense that if it were that windy, you'd try to see if someone were home first instead of just leaving it where it could blow away. *shrug*

Yes, you would think that. The time it happened to me the package was my desktop PC along with a plethora of other personal belonging. Just sitting there...
