Zombies in Call of Duty: World at War

It's been a good week for zombies. The walking dead have scored cameos in both GTAIV (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/showthread.php?t=1629) and World of Warcraft (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/showthread.php?t=1592), and the starring role in Burn Zombie Burn. Just yesterday one of our own users, Maskatron, remarked (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/showpost.php?p=42137&postcount=3), "Zombies are the new WWII." You had no idea how right you were.

Yes, that's right. Call of Duty: World at War is the latest game to include a zombie cameo, and gametrailers.com (http://www.gametrailers.com/gametrailerstv_player.php?ep=43&starttime=1120) has the first footage. Once unlocked, Zombie Survival Mode pits you and three of your friends against endless waves of undead nazis. Killing zombies nets you cash which can be spent between rounds on weapons and ammo, as well as barricades and other defenses to help you fortify your position. Treyarch have not yet confirmed if the mode will have its own leaderboard.

Of course, all of this is moot once November 18th rolls around, and all must hail to the true zombie king, Left 4 Dead

This reminds me of a match long long ago in RTCW. For those who played that game, you might've encountered this stupid bug where even in a private match, sometimes random schmoes will show up.

As per our usual routine, we ended a glorious night of action by all dogpiling on one team and engaging in teamkilling deathmatch fury. As luck would have it, some random schmoe joined the other (empty) team... and started to run the objectives!

At first we thought he'd figure out he was alone against a big team of Nazi's, but he kept plugging along. Figuring on giving him a fighting chance, we all agreed to use knives only in our attempt to convince him he was in the wrong game.

Poor guy must've thought he ran into some weirdo nazi zombie horde, as we all rushed to get into knife range as he poured ammunition into us. He'd die, respawn, and it'd start all over again. :D

Dude put up a good fight, but eventually he figured out he was in the wrong place and bid us adieu. Said good night, wished him luck in another game. :o

I, for one, welcome our new Zombie overlords.

Its kinda kickass to see so many companies doing querky things with their products. DLC started out as regular content that was held back at release, but it's turning a corner toward actual new content. Now we've got developers including funky extra content with the games themselves. Its a good trend and I hope it continues.

It's four player co-op, just like the campaign.

I still have no plans to pick up this game, but this is very cool nonetheless. It seems that a lot of companies are piling up on the Zombie bandwagon. Nothing wrong with that!

Man, am I out of touch with modern games? Back when RtCW came out, zombies was the part of the game where they'd officially lost the plot. Now they're the new bling. [confused]

Well shit. The beta had moved COD5 below Leaft4Dead and Farcry 2 as my break from Gears 2 games to buy. But now we have a "Defend the Temple" mode along with the split screen co-op? It's is back at the top and pushing towards a day 1 purchase. I'll see how the game changes now that they have raised the max level in the beta.
