Honestly, I don't care what you might think about Burnout Paradise (no crash mode, no restart, whatever), you really can't complain about Criterion's desire to constantly update this title with FREE content.
It's going to be even harder to complain since they now have FOUR more updates coming for the open world racer. If you check out the Criterion website (http://www.criteriongames.com/packs/coming_soon.php), you'll see placeholders for 4 more updates. Over the next 4 Fridays, starting on the 31st, the content of these packs will be revealed.
Speculation abounds with what could be incoming. A new island is almost a given, plus there were talks of adding in airplanes at one point. Who knows what's next? We'll find out soon enough.

I saw this on sale the other day, and I am embarrassed that I do not own it at least twice.

I wish more developers would take note of this. I do not even care if the content is free, in fact, I hope Criterion charges for some of this because they deserve it at this point.

This game keeps jumping into my ps3 because (a) it's so good, and (b) they keep giving stuff.

Excellent. Game gets better and better. I grabbed it from Gamefly for under $20 a few months ago and not regretted it at all.
I won't buy it until Crash mode is implemented.

Well, there's always rumor that crash mode could be a part of these updates. Doubt it though. Have you played the game at all yet, or is the lack of crash mode just too much for you?

Really, if you want crash mode why not just buy the last game?

This is amazing. Criterion's done a great job of supporting their baby post-launch.
I suck at the game, but I really appreciate the free updates. You rarely see that kind of dedication.
That reminds me, I really need to get it back off my friend. The son of a bitch has had it for the past four months.

Nice to see gamers honesty about their skills on games. I too suck at BOP. I rented it from Gamefly but had some fun with it. I would of bought it and played around with it more if I had the time too. These updates make me sorry I never did.

Bravo for the updates Criterion... doesn't make up for shitting on the franchise though.
They took just about everything that made Burnout cool and different, and threw it out the window.

Maybe this explains why I haven't bought a Burnout title since Burnout 3. After playing the Burnout Revenge demo, I just felt like the magic was gone. I still fire up #3 every once in a while.

BP is very good, if they put the a restart option and the crash mode (with big rigs and tankers back) this game will be a classic for me!

Perhaps, but they replaced that stuff with a lot of new awesome stuff like the bilboards. I used to play only crash mode, but that's been getting progressively worse since Burnout 2. I've logged more time in Paradise than all the other entries combined, and it's because Criterion had the guts to try something new.

I have owned this game since it's release on 360 but I really haven't played that much. I've never tried the online mode and I don't think I even have my A license? I have the feeling I'm missing out on something big..

I still haven't picked up Paradise, and my main concern is the combination of rubberband AI and no quick restarts. I could deal with the rubberbanding in previous Burnout games because you could keep hammering a track until you had it memorized.
Also, the Paradise demo didn't really make all of the secret jumps and whatnot seem fun. It was pretty clumsy and unnatural to try and get them set up, and yet, without the secret bits there's really no point to the whole open-world concept in single-player.
Fundamentally, I dislike it when developers try to push a vision in a way that inconveniences players. Imagine how much faster MMOs could have stopped sucking if Raph Koster hadn't been so fanatical about his vision for Everquest? There will always be contradictions between real worlds and fun worlds, and so there's no harm in providing seamless experiences for the people who want immersion, and convenient menus for people who just want to have some quick fun.
I'm glad that Paradise went in a new direction. I just want to be trusted to control my own game experience.

I've messed around with it in the demo and the game wasn't that enhtralling to play. I had hoped a Crash mode would have changed that.

Either this game needs a Carmageddon mode, or they need to release a Burnout game that's just Crash Mode.
Ideally both :)

well for me its the opposite, i was never a big fan of burnout until this one ;)
although, i must admit, i never really played one very long, my only recollection, i think, is crashing in a lot of cars in a tunnel for points or something like that

I still have my copy and it's been more than worth the $60 for as much fun as I had in that game with you guys.

Good news, I love Criterion for this. The bikes pack was great and I will continue playing so long as they continue with the free updates, excellent way to add to the longevity of the game.

One of the few games I'll not sell/give away. Criterion knows what they're doing, IMHO. Hopefully some other devs/publishers are paying attention.
