The F.U.D.Cast returns to an African setting as we work our way through Capcom’s survival horror, Resident Evil 5. *For a series that’s had over eight games, the game continues to evolve and continues the ever convoluted story. *While dismissed by critics for it’s supposed racial bias – the game itself comes out strong and rather well liked by the F.U.D.Cast crew. *That’s not to say all was roses, technical issues, online play issues, and general annoyance with the mechanics of what looks like a 3rd person shooter – but really plays like a classic survival horror. *So join Curt, Javier, Ryan, Jeremy, and Drew as they explore Africa in a new light – and come out somewhat more pleased (although further confused on Africa.)

I think we're up to Half-Life 2.

I think we're up to Half-Life 2.

Oh that's right, you mentioned it at the end of the episode. My bad >_<

Great show guys.
It's been a while since I played it, but I was wondering if you found the game to be at all scary?
What I remember of playing was that it felt more like a gear's style action game than survival horror.
And I agree that they need to copy Dead space's controls for the next game, because I never quite became comfortable with the controls in this.

I'm not sure if I had mentioned it but the only thing even remotely scary for me was the gators. Those things were gargantuan.

I didn't find the game very scary, but then again I haven't found an RE game to be scary since the second one.

Well I admit to being a bit creeped out by a few parts in what I played of RE4 (I only made it halfway through it).
But this one just felt more geared towards action and keeping the story moving than the puzzle riddled spookiness in the previous entries.
Although there was nothing wrong with it, I still had fun, but it just felt a little bit out of place in a RE game.
The croc did get me, though.

I wasn't scared by much in RE5, I would have to agree with the crocodiles being the scariest part, especially the first time...

RE4 really creeped me out for a while, but after the chainsaw sisters and the first wolverine wannabe, it was smooth sailing till the regenerators. *shudder* But they lose their scariness pretty quickly once you know what to do.

Playing it co-op, I can say there weren't many scary points, as you're joking around/yelling at your partner most of the way through. Not enough time alone for much creep factor.

Edit: Also getting to tell Jeremy he's full of shit totally made this episode for me. ;)

Entertaining as always, especially when it's a game I've played also, which has been most of them.

What's the tune at the end? It's lovely.

The opening and ending to the show are the same song, which is the RE5 theme song entitled "Pray". Vocals are by Oulimata Niang.

Also, I don't think there was any thing in this game that scared me. Maybe a few times where I shouted "Holy crap" (or various other expletives), but they weren't really moments that made me jump out of my seat like the earlier games. Like Track said, if you're playing co-op you're probably going to be cracking jokes, etc. with your partner most of the time.

I feel the pacing also lends itself to being not scary as it's much more linear than say RE1 or RE2. Those games had you spending a lot of time in partitioned areas looking for a Rooster Emblem/Hex Crank/Passcard/Heart Key. Think about the mansion in RE1 or the police station in RE2. Here you're pretty much on rails moving from one area to the next, quite literally for the jeep level, and while backtracking is mostly possible within individual chapters, it's almost never necessary.
