The new issue of OXM is on-sale today containing the world's first review of Gears of War 2. And, well, it's easily as good as we were expecting so it's nabbed a prime 9/10 score.

I almost feel bad because people are going to pay the same price for this as other games that are complete rubbish.

I'm confident this will be a solid title, and I don't want to troll, but do these pre-release reviews mean shit anymore? It's more advertising and hype it seems.

Not a 10? I know it shouldn't but that worries me - I would expect it to be terribly overrated if it's really good.

I saw a slash in the title and immediately thought it was an earlier release date or something until I realized that 9 is September and that they'd never release it earlier anyway.

Anyway, that's great news, but I'd expect it to have a high rating from OXM. I hope they really mean that nine.

That is a horrible sentiment. Keep punching out games rapid fire until you run the franchise into the ground? No thanks. I prefer very occasional sequels, and tons of original content.

This game, and the other AAA titles in the holiday season are review proof.

No matter what reviewers say, they will sell enormously well.

Regardless of suspect reviews, this got me so insanely pumped...finally after a year of apathy, as I expected more Gears and what that was good, not OMG FALLOUT 3 good...

...but this trailer gave me chills...yay Gears 2!!

Regardless of suspect reviews, this got me so insanely pumped...finally after a year of apathy, as I expected more Gears and what that was good, not OMG FALLOUT 3 good...

...but this trailer gave me chills...yay Gears 2!!

Trust me, you're not the only one!

I think it looks fantastic. The brief part in the beginning with Cole and the flower makes my heart melt.

They gave Fable II a 9.5 and Fallout 3 a 10. So I wonder if Gears 2 just missed out on the perfect score for it's lack of RPG elements or CoD style leveling system.

That's the truth. Games that don't deserve good scores get very high ones, and good games get torn apart for no reason. I expect Gears 2 to be nothing short of outstanding, but I rarely put much faith in OXM's reviews.

Does anyone honestly expect bad reviews for this game? Also, I really hate to self-advertise but can we please just keep all this Gears 2 stuff in the Gears 2 thread I created? There's like 7 or so topics floating around and they become stagnant after like a day.

Shame that the 1st Gears never captured the feeling of the commercial at all. I hope this one will be a little more like it. Seeing as there's a little more drama.

The end of Act one plays out like a Bruckhiemer Movie on methamphetamines, and Dom is infuriating. So no, don't hold your breath.

Wouldnt be very difficult, there's not too much in the way of really big name exclusives this year. MGS4 is about the only real major one and you cant get drunk college students playing that, can you?

Was afraid of that. I'll think I'll pass on it for now then. I never really got really involved with Gears 1, even after giving it several tries. It's fun for a quick evening of blasting, but that's about it.
