Scene: The man in the recliner is back. Once again asleep now holding what appears to be a Nintendo DS. Some empty beer bottles have gathered around the side of the recliner The 55 in Samsung LCD tv is awake in the corner of the room with this signal:

http://i365.photobucket.com/albums/oo92/PurpleSanta/TVsignal.png

The man finally meets the glare from the tv with a few mumbles. The man might be heard saying no, I’m not going to school…don’t make me go mom…as he grabs his DS a bit tighter. The man goes back to his deep sleep as snores fill the room.

Gaming: Not just for weekends anymore. The new week begins now.

Just a same ole same ole weekend for me; found a game that could help me bring all my attention to it, ate some chocolate bunnies and jelly beans and had my car stolen by my housemate who was nice enough to bring it back when he finishing borrowing it. When not having to call the police explaining my car isn’t where I last parked it, this is what kept me sane:

SMT: Strange Journey- Made it to the first real boss of the game. At the moment I’m still slinging tiny arrows and rocks at the boss while it just laughs at my puny attacks.

Deadly Premonition- Eternal Gamer’s raving about the game quickly became my Xbox game for the weekend. I feel self vindication now for buying this title for the puny $20 first day price.

Small weekend plays but kept me busy while keeping ADDGirl company as she is in the midst of writing her last few papers for graduate school. Also kept me from wanting to do bodily harm to my housemate.

How was your weekend? What did YOU play? What’s scheduled for the week?

Just Cause 2, nearly all the time. It's a great game, with tons of shit to do. Lately I've been having fun hooking things to other moving things (like hooking cars to planes and such). I've been considering trying to hook a small plane like the Silverbolt to a large passenger plane, then hop into the passenger plane and take off. Once in the air, I would hop out of the passenger plane, and then attempt to jump into the Silverbolt. I'm gonna try that later today. Just gotta hope that the Silverbolt doesn't get too beat up getting off the ground.

Got to chapter 11 in FFXIII. I doubt I'll have much time this week to play, too much stuff to do now that spring is here.

Well, I spent what little time I wasn't hanging out with the family or reading my book playing a bit of Miles Edgeworth and SMT:SJ.

I'm on the first part of the fourth case. I made a stupid mistake yesterday while trying to save my game... I hit the reset/power button instead of Start on the DSi and lost about 10 minutes of progress. Grrr...

And I'm STILL trying to figure out how not to count to 30 in Strange Journey. I am going to have to work it all the way back to zero to master the algorithm or go mad trying!

As for what I plan to play this week, see the above games and add FFXIII, Again, Fragile and maybe even some Deadly Premonition :)

If I get any time today I'll beat Rocket Riot (holy crap is this game repetitive on SP mode), I'll play some Red Faction Guerrilla, and maybe I'll go outside to read a book. I have to go to a f/u appointment for my wife's Friday ER visit, so hopefully they give her some medicine (or let her take home a nebulizer) and we can push this shit behind us. It ruined our weekend.

I was doing yard work yesterday but I got all sweaty and my ballcap wasn't holding it all back. So like I have to do these days, I put on a sweatband and work in the yard. I wonder if the neighbors think I look foolish. Don't really care. I have lots more work to do out there, but I doubt I'll get to any today.

SMT:SJ- Just grabbed this over the weekend. Plan on playing it a healthy amount this week. This is my second SMT game, but the first was Persona 4 so it's different. I'm a late bloomer.

And white tube socks pulled up to my knees.

I'm also glad someone else has heard of The Baker's Boy series. I usually don't enjoy female fantasy authors (it's not that I'm sexist, I think they mostly suck) and though the first book's writing style wasn't my favorite, the sequel seemed like she really got better. Whether that's the outcome of a great editor or just a growing writer, I don't know. Maybe both.

I like debut novels that feel like that, but then the writing improves greatly when you pick up the next one. I think David Eddings was like that--I couldn't stand Pawn of Prophecy at first but then it seemed to get better, and the subsequent books had a more experienced tone to them.

Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey - I started the fourth section last night, and now I need to figure out how to get around some obstacles impeding my progress to the next objective. I also gained several levels defeating the third sector's boss, so I should see what new demons I can fuse.

Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love - I finished the first episode and am enjoying it a lot so far. I started out with the English disc, but too many voices were extremely annoying so I had to switch. I'm not sure how to describe it, but it's definitely different from most of the usual games.

Again - This should arrive sometime this week, possibly even today. I'll probably switch out SMT:SJ and dive into it as soon as I can.

Final Fantasy XIII - I've almost maxed out all the characters, so I'll probably do that later today, get back to doing some missions, and continue grinding turtles for gil and materials.

Yakuza 3 - This hasn't actually shipped yet, but I hope I'll be able to get it this week.

I happened to get a bit more gaming time in this weekend than expected.

Borderlands - I noticed a friend playing so I jumped in, gained a few levels, had some fun. I still like this game, it's got problems but I find the combat particularly fun even now.

Dragon Age: Origins - For some weird reason, I've been in a mood for an RPG. This has been staring at me for months and I don't know why I've been ignoring it so long. I played through 1 and a .5 origins stories so far. I'm going to play through all 6 and then decide who and how I want to play. So far I'm really loving the combat.

UNO - I played this a bit on the 360. It's a fun little game to pass the time.

Mass Effect 2- Gotta play the Hammerhead DLC and will snag the Kasumi DLC when it is released.

Dragon Age Origins: Awakening- I'm near the end. I want to finish it, but don't know if I will play it or not this week.

Final Fantasy 13- Stuck at the ch9 boss. Gonna try him a couple more times. If I get too pissed off and can't beat him, I'll stop playing the game.

I'm feeling the itch to play Bayonetta again too. Might have to pop that back into the 360 and forget about the other games.:D

Instead of plowing through my massive backlog like I should be doing, I bought a couple of Steam games this weekend. I watched a co-worker play Rome: Total War, and it looked like a lot of fun. It was only $10 for the package (Gold Edition + Alexander expansion), so I picked it up. Just started, but it already feels like a fun way to kill 70+ hours.

Also picked up Shatter since I've been wanting a new puzzle game that I can use to kill a few minutes in the evenings while putting the kids to bed, and it seemed like fun. I was glad I bought it, because it is an absolute blast to play.

Tax return came in last week, too, so I'm hoping that means I can finally pick up Red Steel 2 sometime this week. Beyond that, I plan to try finishing up Muramasa: the Demon Blade so I can lend it to my nephew.

Ok, here is what you do:
Have Light, Sazh & Vanielle and before the battle toss both Fortisol and Aegisol, then as soon as the battle begins toss Librascope, hit him with a com/com/rav then switch to RAV/RAV/RAV. When you need healing switch to med/rav/med. You will have the head down very quickly. Once that is done keep up the attack but when you sol's effects go away switch to med/syn/med so that sazh can keep haste going. When he draws back for "destructo" be sure everyone is healed up and keep hitting him hard. It takes awhile but it's not terrible with that combo.

Use Lightning/Fang/Hope. Balance Light's equipment between MAG and STR, Fang's should be STR focused and Hope's MAG focused. Use a Fortisol before the battle. When you enter battle, use a Librascope. Swap between rav/sen/rav and com/sen/rav, use com/sen/med for healing. When you see the boss start to use Destrudo, switch to com/sen/med and stay in that Paradigm until it goes off. After healing, go back to rav/sen/rav and com/sen/rav. It may take a bit, but you'll win before he tosses Doom on you.

I am experiencing a bit of a gaming funk. I don't really have anything I really want to play right now. I mean, Fallout 3 is fun, but seriously, I'm on my 4th playthrough. SMT: SJ is pissing me off. Infinite Space is too.

What's odd is, I don't know what I *want* to play. No *concept* of a game even calls to me right now.

Blah.

If we're truly gaming twins, you'll love it. The demo didn't grab me because it didn't give me enough guidance in learning the controls, especially regarding the parachute/grapple mechanics, but once I learned that (about 2-3 hours) and started to experiment the game just clicked.

Current playtime: 22 hours, 20% completion.

Battlefield Bad Company 2: My new online addiction after MW2 shit the bed for me.

Super Mario Galaxy: Loved it at first, now it's getting kind of boring and I'm growing tired of the waggle which isn't a fault of the game. Should jump back in and get a few stars here and there.

Uncharted 2: Started playing it, got half way through and got bored and distracted by other games. I need to start playing it again and force my way through it so I can return it to my buddy who I'm borrowing it from.

Guess I'll have to go to Gamestop sometime this week. They have dropped The Saboteur (New, not used) to $20. I love sandbox games of any kind, so this will be a good pick up for me.

Well, the local EB has Deadly Premonition in stock. I'll probably grab it tomorrow. Nowhere seems to have Again in but I'm hoping they'll be in stock somewhere tomorrow. I'm almost ready to just go on Amazon and order both games and be done with all of the brick & mortar shenanigans.

What pains me is that the Play & Trade, that I want to support, doesn't seem to be getting either game in any time soon. As much as I want to give my money to the 'little guys', I'm also of the mind that if they don't have the game I want in stock and EB does, well, guess who gets my cash...

Final Fantasy 13 is killing all my free time. Well, that and Resident Evil 5. After I noticed that RE5: Gold was collecting dust on my shelf, I'd thought I'd throw it a bone and delete my save file, which had 100% completion, and start the game all over.

I'm going to pick up DP soon as well. In fact, I need some filler for my Amazon cart as it seems The Saboteur is only $20 at Amazon now. So $40 for two games ain't that shabby. Those will probably be my next game purchases, whenever I make them.

I paid off ALL my credit cards today. We only started using them in the fall for various purchases, but the balances became HUGE. But we'll be saving quite a lot of money now.

We also had to go back to the hospital as my wife wasn't any better. Her physician was out but another sent her for another CT to rule out an embolism. That came back okay, as did an EKG. So I'm taking tomorrow off, dropping the baby off at daycare, and we'll be headed back to the doctor's again. She gets winded even taking a shower. No fucking clue what is going on, and I want her back to good health as the house is becoming a dump. :)

Actually, watching the squirt is more of a nightmare. He has set his sights on my computer and the dangling cords beneath/behind it. I had moved my desk with the computer/HDTV/360 out to one side of our double living room so I could be with the family more. My office became his playroom and changing table (he has another in his room upstairs). Now it looks like we'll have no choice but to make the other half of the living room his play area and the office will once again be mine simply because we need my PC and dangling cables for the time being. Because he knows he can't touch my PC or cables, he wants to do it all the time. If he could do it without harm, he'd get bored and move on. Funny how kids want to do everything they aren't allowed to do.

We don't have a gate/fence big enough to block the entrance to my area of the room, so I had to line up many of his big riding toys to block the area. But being as ingenious as kids are, he's figured out how to maneuver things just right. And he's FAST.

I'm going to have my credit card(s) and a chunk of our loan paid off once the tax man drops off the big sack of cash on my doorstep in a couple of weeks. That'll be a nice load off of my shoulders. The fact that we're past the worst that the year has to offer, release-wise, is also handy.

I hope your wife gets better, stat. Mystery illnesses are never nice!

I tore apart my laptop tonight to try to figure out why it is flatlining. Reseating the RAM did nothing, nor did futzing around with the battery. I won't cry if it is dead and gone but it would be nice to retrieve the pictures and iTunes purchases!

Well, time to try to find the wings of my daughter's Tinkerbell doll and get her to bed. Then I am going to either putter with Miles Edgeworth or Strange Journey until my wife goes to bed so that I can play some Fragile or FFXIII.

That's what we did. In the states they gave an $8k tax credit for new homebuyers, which we put towards the cards. It paid off our wedding rings, some home stuff like paint/furniture, and some things we carried around before moving in. Paying off the cards will save us hundreds each month. She had bills from before we were together, and I'm glad we have those out of the way. Like I said, she's my Spig-girl. :)

However, we're not debt free. With the hospital bills that should be showing up in...oh, a month or so, we're looking at a huge bill again--and we both WORK for the hospital!

Oh well, life is good regardless.

Hint for baby making NOW: Blow your load in your girl. Let batter bake for 10 months, remove and welcome to the best nightmare you've ever had. :)

My boy has one of these http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/images/B00000IZEM/ref=dp_image_z_0?ie=UTF8&n=165793011&s=toys-and-games and since we live on a dead end I can push him up and down the street, right down the middle (there is still some winter sand on the sidewalks). I love hearing him making noises when he's riding along with his hands on the wheels. They are little sponges--he makes his own car noises like Roooom-rooom, even when pushing his cars around on the floor.

And he adores Phineas and Ferb almost as much as Spigot. I like putting on P+F when he's not paying attention just so he'll whip his head around at that great theme song. That and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse are his favorite shows. We usually put them on early in the morning while he's having a bottle and we're in the bathroom getting ready for work.

If you need any further advice on how to make a baby, just let me know. I can send you some personalized videos. I gave them out for Xmas gifts last year, where I would look up in the middle of the act and say, breathless, "Merry Christmas _____." I sent out a LOT, so I had to record quite a few. I think this year I'll just send out cards.

Metro 2033 - Dark, oppressive, linear and narrative-heavy, this is the complete opposite of Just Cause 2, its so great to be playing both these games at the same time. Metro 2033 feels like the guys who made Condemned got to do a Fallout 3 remake. It's got alot of Fallout 3 in it actually, sections of the game could easily be confused in screenshots, but its different enough where it counts. I really love this game so far.

The one thing I'd like to say to all the reviewers griping about the shoddy shooting, you're using crap weapons with rusty cobbled ammunition dipshits. You expect it to behave like a futurist Modern Warfare 2 gun with titanium alloy rounds? This dichotomy becomes apparent when you get a good gun and use some military-grade ammunition, the shooting is fine.

Just Cause 2 - Did a bunch of stronghold missions and am looking forward to diving in deeper when I've exhausted Metro 2033. It'll be a nice change of pace, but I'm really enjoying skulking around haunted sewers with my rusty Magnum at the moment.

If I have anytime, it will be devoted to Deadly Premonition. I've logged over 12 hours in it already even though I'm only about a quarter of the way through (I spent a lot of time doing side missions and just exporing and goofing off in the world. The game has yet to let a single hour of playtime pass by without getting at least one serious laugh out of me.

I supposed you have to have the right sense of humor to really enjoy it, but for me it is pure joy and one of the smartest comic games I've ever played.

The problem is that most people assume its just bad design rather than a choice the developers made. And while I can see your point, I think it'd be stupid to have pixel-perfect aiming using homemade weapons with rusty ammo in a post-apocalyptic world. That would kill the immersion I feel, and this game really excels on atmosphere and immersion. Besides, it's not even long before you get fairly decent weapons and the military ammunition (also used for cash) can be easily stockpiled if you search carefully enough.

Rather than take away form the whole experience it makes it much more rewarding when you've finally got the good shit.

Pull the hard drive. It should be a 2.5" SATA notebook drive (like what the PS3 uses). You can connect it to most SATA external enclosures via USB and still read the drive. Pulling your music and pictures should be easy. Unless the hard drive is damaged.

While I'm not a sexist like Kel :p, I didn't enjoy The Baker's Boy at all. I don't care if the next books are decent, if I can't make it through the first book in a series, I'm moving on. If you're looking for a good female fantasy/sci-fi author, Andre Norton is great. Her Beastmaster and Witchworld books are fun reads.

The first book is probably the most uncomfortable to read because the protagonist is just a kid who has to live in absolutely horrid conditions.

I spent a couple of hours playing Fragile tonight and am absolutely enthralled by this gorgeous world. It's also very creepy. The sense of solitude is almost oppressive and some of the 'ghosts' are not so much scary as they are disturbing. I think a lot of that is thanks to the awesome music and sound effects. I'm very tempted to take a FFXIII break for a bit and just buckle down and work on Fragile for the next week or so.

Wake up people!

Well, I did a bit of shopping today. I ended up spending about $100 but that got me 4 games, so I won't complain. Grabbed Deadly Premoniton, Again, Rune Factory Frontier and Banjoe-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts. I felt bad buying Again at EB but the shop I was going to get it at wasn't going to have it for a few more days and was asking me to wait until he had a bigger order so that he didn't have to pay the shipment costs on only one game. I did buy BK:N&B and Rune Factory from him for more than I would have spent on just Again, so I don't feel TOO bad.

The only game I'll probably play of all of these is Again since it's raining out and my daughter seems to have rooted herself in front of the TV for the day. Ah, rainy days.

I didn't want to talk about Again since Santa had already made you jealous, but I'm glad that won't be a problem now. I only played a little bit last night, but it's definitely interesting so far, and I'm looking forward to finding out more about what is going on.

Also, weren't you done buying games for a while since the busy season was finally over for you? :p

Again was going to be my last game for a while... then all of this buzz about Deadly Premonition (and the fact it's only $20) got me searching for it.

And Rune Factory Frontier was only $25 new and BK:N&B was $16 used, so I don't feel TOO badly about grabbing them :) Plus I'd been looking at them the last few times I was in the shop and it kind of made up for not buying Again from the guy.

That said, NOW I'm done for a while. I'm trying to keep myself dark as much as possible about Splinter Cell because I don't want to want it... the nice thing about it being that I feel none of the usual rare game anxiety and I KNOW it will be easy to find months from now when I've cleared a few more games from my backlog.

I also didn't feel quite so bad splurging after hearing what I am getting back for taxes. Suffice it to say, I'll be in the black rather handily once the cheque arrives :) So 4 games for $100 was a nice little 'happy tax return' gift.

I did gaze longingly at the XL they had on display at the shop, but not even *I* can rationalize that purchase... esp. since we have to get a new BBQ this weekend.

Not enough time.Definately. I have the first Rune Factory on DS and what little I played of it was very enjoyable. I have always liked the Harvest Moon series in theory but could never really get into it the way I wanted to. The nice thing about Rune Factory games is that they have that core Harvest Moon gameplay but the layer of fantasy/RPG settings and mechanics adds just enough to make me want to actually try to play through one of them.

I can't wait for my son to come home and play some Nuts & Bolts. He's in a huge Lego phase right now so something like this in videogame form would be right up his alley.

I ran into Gigantaur (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWFiF233US4) and he kicked my ass with his 10k Needles attack. Looks like I'll need to do a lil more grinding to get him. I'm enjoying FFXIII as much post-game as I did the normal game.

I also played a lil Lunar last night. I'm stuck in the Lost Forest, trying to make my way to the Black Dragon and the last piece to become the Dragonmaster!

I haven't played any Again yet. I want to, but it's almost time to pick up the boy from school and I'm suspecting that it's the kind of game that will work best if I'm flaked out on my bed with nary a distraction around. Not the best thing to start when you've got a kid telling you that she's pooping every 10 minutes :)

If you need any further advice on how to make a baby, just let me know. I can send you some personalized videos. I'm on kind of a gaming low. I just don't see to be having much fun with anything after GoW3. I'm still plowing away at FFXIII but that's more because it's fast and easy and I have no other stuff in sight. Plowing being the word there. Occasional fun met with just as much frustration. Tekken 6 is getting some playtime, but I'm basically collecting trophy's and costumes. OCD itch.

Been a long time since I've posted in these threads, mostly because I resubscribed to WoW and don't really feel the need to post about it (out of SHAME!!). I don't play much, but it keeps my spending on other games in check. I cancelled my subscription to Gamefly after three years and replaced it with the WoW sub. Just wasn't using Gamefly enough to justify the cost, although I already miss it for one reason: DS games! I always bought my DS games through Gamefly because of the discount, and now I am finding it hard to lay down the cash for games like Infinite Space or Strange Journey. I doubt these games will go down in price anytime soon like a normal console game, either. BOO!

This week I hope to play a bit more of Resonance of Fate. I'm not very far, but the characters are OK and I like the setting. I also need to play through God of War 1 and 2 so I can play 3!

I mean, I tried to state my case and gently assert my nerd cred, but he just kept saying that I should wait until the fall and I'd be put in my place. I was so ready to unleash nerd rage on him but it was neither the time nor place. But dear lord...

And don't get me started on whatever he was trying to tell me about the 360 being able to use Flash in its browser... I eventually talked him down from that and he was throwing things like the media center functionality out as smokescreens to try to salvage his arguement, but I would have none of that. NONE!

Man. I would have loved to have pulled his arguement apart right there but decorum dictated that I stop before I went too crazy :)

Beneath a Steel Sky - Pretty damn cool! Got stuck at a non-gamer friends house while he was out for a couple hours, found his stash (huzzah!), then created him a GoG account on his old ass PC and downloaded Beneath a Steel Sky. Got pretty far until he got home and wanted to watch Mythbusters instead. It was fun while it lasted.

Metro 2033 - Great game, awesome atmosphere, needs more love. Just got past the mission where you rescue a kid and he rides on your shoulders (which restricts movement) while you fend off mutants and get him back home. So cool, and the dialogue was really neat. At one point he sees the sky through the sewer grate above and says, 'What is that, it looks like a painting...is that...the sky? I saw the sky! I'm going to be famous!" So cool.

My burning passion for M&B Warband has cooled for the moment as I await the next patch, which I hope brings some big fixes. Don't get me wrong, the game isn't a mess or anything, I just like to start a fresh character when there's an important patch, and I expect one soon, so it makes sense to me to wait a little.

I have Bioshock 2 and FFXIII from Gamefly, but they just aren't tripping my trigger, at least not yet. I'm in one of those places where most stuff is seeming like filler. Granted, I was never terribly excited about either of those particular games in the first place, so I'm sure that's contributing.

In other news, my search continues for a "real" job, like so many other people. I have an opportunity to volunteer at the local hospital in the hopes that it will lead to a paying position in administration, but their "project" is in the collections department. I'm just not sure it's worth the time or frustration. It isn't likely that there would be a position for me anytime soon even if I were to do this pro bono crap.

Started Dragon Age for PS3 that I got from GameFly. I can tell it's going to be hell to try and micromanage everyone. So far I've just let them do their thing except for boss fights. Even then being able to only queue up one action doesn't make any sense and is very annoying.

Not sure if I'll stick it out or wait for a price drop and buy the PC version (framerate and graphics on the PS3 are way under what I expected too, not a well done port)

Well, on top of buying Deadly Premonition and The Saboteur today for $35 new together, I wound up stopping by my local Movie Gallery during lunchbreak and picking up some used games. They are going out of business and are currently at 40% everything (the newest games are still being rented for another week, so they were off limits). I probably should have saved my money, but here's what I got:

Sonic Unleashed - $10
Sonic Tennis - $3
Elebits - 7.xx
Blue Dragon Prima Game Guide - $6 (this one's for Spigot)

I decided just grabbing the sealed BD guide because it shows where all the hidden stuff is(namely the color-encased chests you have to skip until later on) so I don't have to worry about looking at Gamefaqs later on when I get the ability to go back to these dungeons (if I decide to). I still haven't finished BD--quite a ways from it really, but I like it a lot.

They had some other games I passed on. Almost grabbed the Symphonia game for Wii for $15 but I've heard if you haven't played through the first one you may be lost or not like it as much. Fire Emblem Wii was $20 as well, Okami $10 (have it on PS2), Deadly Creatures $10 and a few other titles I'm forgetting. If they are there in the weeks to come maybe I'll get them.

Join the club. I don't know what got me into the Wii all of a sudden, but I think it was the hiatus I took from console gaming in general. I played the PC for a couple months and when I came back it was the Wii that I started using. Opoona was my first purchase for the Wii (Wii pt. 2 anyway) and it got me excited to play more. The games that are waggle free and let me sit back on the couch and play like Opoona or Rune Factory, those are what I like.

And now I accumulated too many Wii games and not enough time to play them. At this point I haven't even played many of them--just Opoona on the weekends. Oh well.

Oh well.I've given up on being one of those guys like Spigot that has all kinds of time for gaming. I've accepted my casual gamer moniker and I am fine with it. It was easier to accept that than when I had to give up the hardcore sex addict label. Position 1.1 for me please (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/list_of_sex_positions)! :o (link is NSFW)

At least you have had good reason to step away from gaming lately. How is your wife doing? Better I hope.

There's talk of FFXIII-2 (like FF X-2) in the FFXIII thread, so that prompted another episode of Wada and Toriyama:

The place: Square Enix Japan, Office of the President
The Players: Wada and Toriyama
The scene:

Wada: Whoa. How would you get her into that position? *Looks up as Toriyama enters the office*
Toriyama: Sir?
Wada: Ah, Toriyama. Just reading some of #13's fan fiction. I'd thought I'd read it all, but the things this "Xydarc" describes doing to Lightning... *shudders*
Toriyama: Our fans do get a little crazy, but at least they also buy anything. Have you tried a Potion drink? *laughs*
Wada: *also laughs* I know better than to drink reformulated monkey urine. *in a serious tone* Toriyama, #13 is doing great. PS3 sales are fantastic and we've even sold well on Microsoft's dirty non-Japanese console. How far away is Versus?
Toriyama: *suddenly finds the floor very interesting* Oh, ah...well, we discovered that a couple of the scenario writers have a thing for Yaoi. Let's just say, the antagonist gets..."close" to one of his male compatriots.
Wada: So? That dirty non-Japanese RPG Dragon Age had two guys gettin' it on.
Toriyama: Yeah, but this is a fully interactive QTE sausage fest. We'll get slapped with an adult rating before the gold master is done burning.
Wada: True. Okay, so another delay for Versus. What can we do in the meantime?
Toriyama: Well, we bragged about cutting out a game's worth of content in #13...maybe we could do XIII-2?
Wada: Only if we can do it X-2 style.
Toriyama: *eyes twinkling* I've already started designing costumes for Lightning, Fang, and Vanille.
Wada: You buckin' for a raise Toriyama? *grins, laughs* God this will piss them off again. Even as they're bitching on the internet, they'll be buying copies left and right.
Toriyama: I'm already thinking Lightning and Hope should...
Wada: Wait. *frowns*
Toriyama: Sir?
Wada: The Hope/Lightning thing is good, but I'm thinking we should include another character from a previous game. What's the one Final Fantasy that the "core" revere above all others?
Toriyama: #6?
Wada: Exactly! I never understood why they liked that one so much. I mean, he's a goddamn clown; what's so scary about a clown? *shakes head* Anyhoo, let's invite Terra to the party.
Toriyama: Hmmm...there's an up-and-coming idol that we could model her after. And we could get her to sing for cheap, unlike that whore Leona Lewis.
Wada: Good, good. I want to see Lightning, Vanille, and Terra's idol outfits by the end of the week. How soon can we have it done?
Toriyama: 8-9 months. 90% of that stuff we cut was pretty much done.
Wada: Get to work then. *turns back to Xydarc's fan fiction* Jeebus, he's not going to try to fit another banana in there is he? OH MY GOD HE IS!

Nine months later:

Japanese TV Reporter: I'm here at Square Enix's offices. While details are sketchy at this point, we are getting reports that a couple of crazed Final Fantasy fans have stormed the offices. *the camera pans up to the roof* Oh my God! There they are!

Xydarc and Dukefrukem stand at the roof, the heads of Wada and Toriyama in each hand.

Xydarc: This is for making Lightning fall in love with Hope and making her a pop singer!
Dukefrukem: This is for no Ifrit and cock-teasing the remake of Final Fantasy VII!

As Japanese police snipers gun down the two enraged gamers, the ghosts of Wada and Toriyama watch dispassionately:

Ghost Wada: Hmmm...perhaps we went too far this time.
Ghost Toriyama: Sir! Never say that! We were artists, and true artists always push the envelope.
Ghost Wada: Too true. Still, my one regret is that we never got to push out The Last Renmant 2 onto Microsoft's dirty non-Japanese console. I just know they would have loved that Yaoi QTE we had planned...

Wait... I have all kinds of time to play games? Since when?

I have lots of time to buy games I wish I had time to play. And when I do have a spare moment or 3, I really try hard to play the games I've bought...

But I'm really looking forward to next week's evening shifts because it means that I'll actually have large chunks of the day with no kids and a house to myself, which means that I'll actually be able to play some games.

Woo!

I'm almost done my shift tonight and then I'll be heading home to plan a birthday party and once THAT is done, I'd like to play some more Fragile or Again. Again is interesting. I am getting used to the live action footage they use for the actors, but part of me really wishes they'd stuck to the cool style they used in Hotel Dusk.

Sonic Unleashed - $10

You bought this instead of Deadly Creatures? Bah.
Saboteur! I really dig it, because I like games where I get to kill Nazis. Sure I hate sneaking and it's really hard to escape in a car that feels like it's from 1912 and the cover doesn't always work...

But I'm saving Paris. From Nazis.
My gaming skills suck but I could get away from Nazi's in the worst car. Of course it helps having weaned on GTA all these years who have car physics from another dimension. I actually liked the cars and the chases in Saboteur. And you don't have to resort to sneaking. Sneaking was the best choice and hardest to find. But there were other ways to do the missions if you were creative enough. I looked at some of the missions I finished and looked to see what others did on Gamefaqs. There are some creative souls out there.
I elected the free super saver shipping from Amazon and they are telling me they have shipped out Saboteur on its own and it should be here on Friday. That's...2 day shipping. Weird. But awesome. Hopefully DP ships out today as well so I can have it Friday as well. That's the one I want to play.
Amazon will often ship stuff in 2 days even when you get the free shipping. It depends on the product.

On my own gaming front...still wandering around Bootes looking for the count to 30 mission. Then I made the mistake of trying out Plants vs Zombies on my Ipod Touch. I killed the afternoon playing that.

Now that you mention it I remember you complaining about having less game time lately... ...in that case, welcome to the club. :)

I picked up another Wii "game" while I was out. I went into a local Game Xchange and they had EA Sports Active for $30. I couldn't pass it up for that price.

And yeah. Work used to be full of opportunities to just hang out and play DS games when things were quiet. Alas, when things are quiet now (which is rarely) I tend to have a pile of paperwork to deal with.

And I've been waaaay too busy with the kids and such when I'm home. I think things are getting back into some semblance of normalcy though. I am going to relax with some FFXIII or Fragile tonight before retiring to the bedroom to play Again or SMT: SJ or Miles Edgeworth. At least I've gotten over my nerd rage.

What the fudge? So Saboteur shipped almost immediately and should arrive Friday. Deadly Premonition is set to ship on the 13th. That doesn't seem to make any sense for a game that's supposedly STILL in stock.

I really want to play Deadly Premonition but this next three weeks is hell for me since we are nearing the end of the semester.

In the meantime, I have to settle for watching Giant BOmb do their "play through" in 30 minute segments while I jog. Watching them, I realize how different our senses of humors are. For one, it seems completely stupid watch guys take a game seriously which doesn't take itself seriously. Half of the time theymake jokes at its expense not realizing that the things they are often making fun of are supposed to funny. The other half of the time, they take the game seriously and totally miss all the very funny absurd situitions.

I laugh and am amusing when I watch it but it has nothing to do with their commentary. It is just the game itself that makes me laugh. They just come off as prudes without a real sense of humor. I know that isn't really the case, but it just shows how different my sense of humor is from theirs, I guess. I can't even think about the game without smiling.

So you think $10.70 or whatever it is is a decent price for Deadly Creatures?

I could always swing back by today. There are two copies there. I also want to get the Fire Emblem game since the price is still the same it trades in for ($20). But I really have never played one and don't know if it's up my alley, though I know the genre.

I also have to debate what I'm going to do with my desk/computer today. On one hand I really enjoy being in the living room with the family, so if my wife nags I can get right up and help. I also get to see the baby more. On the other hand, the baby is starting to explore too much and tries to get under my desk and yank wires and touch the PC, which is on a built-in cradle near the floor (until I get a new desk soon). If I'm sitting there I'll put a foot across the bottom so he can't cross, and he throws a fit as soon as he sees my foot block his way.

If I reclaim my office it would be more private and I could have my own space again, but being in another room sorta bothers me. Cable management is something I can attempt, as I've seen the sticky things that allow you to hide your wires, but at this point I think it's a losing battle. I have way too many, and I can't exactly hide all the wires I have--and the subwoofer on the floor. Blah! It's not really like I'm THAT far away anyway, since our house isn't that big.

I'll debate it. I can always move things back, too, if I don't like it. I'm off work today anyway to take my wife to various doctor's appointments.

Yeah, I meant you are pretty busy with work and your home life. Between both you manage to find time to game more than the rest of us. My "problem" is ADDGirl and I have to much we like to watch together. She as a big a nerd as I am. So the plus side, I don't have to beg for game time or torture to watch tv with her or have to be excused. The down side...how do I find time to game with all that tv watching together? Thank you PC monitor...it started with the PS3 and now 360 attached. However, now I get sad faces from ADDGirl because she doesn't get to watch me play games like GoW and Heavy Rain. It might motivate her to play those games though...

That's what you get for living in a winter wasteland. It's nice over here ;)
So you think $10.70 or whatever it is is a decent price for Deadly Creatures?
Yes. I think you will appreciate the clever way the developers melded a platformer with an attempt at a "mature" theme. More importantly, the waggle is actually fun in the game. You rarely ever see me type that. And if you end up hating it, i'll watch your kid for a week so you and the misses can go off somewhere. That's my best attempt at money back guarantee.

My two cents: The kid is only doing what he is meant to be doing. Which is learning by exploring his world. That isn't going to stop even if you put the stuff out of his way. It's a great teaching moment for you and him. I'd try to put the wires away/hide best as you can. Instead of trying to eliminate his need to touch those wires, try an alternative for him to play with. Children learn better to live within their environment when they have choices. They also learn about self control and boundaries.

All that serious talk I need to play a game now :p

I did my first "workout" with the EA Sports Active game today. It was ok. I see what you mean about the rubberband Spigot. I don't think it is going to last long even though it is new. In fact the whole game is new. I wonder if I purchased a stolen item. I will stick with it for the first 30 days and see how it goes. Of course, it's warming up so it is probably not needed since I will return to a somewhat active life soon enough.

Kel, the great purple one said pretty much what I was going to say. The little guy is going to explore and nothing is going to stop that. I don't think it is bad if you move the pc to the office, everyone needs a me place but keep track of how much time you spend in there. We all know time can get away from us fast when playing games and no point in isolating yourself too much.

Hey, rein, I recommend picking up a tighter resistance band. You can get one at Target for under $20 (maybe under $10?). I got a heavier one that had these large foam handles and I just cut the handles off and it worked great. Definitely gave me a better workout.

After watching episode 6 of the Witchblade anime, I played some more FFXIII last night. I'm addicted to it's post-game. I completed an initial round of Titan's Challenge, dug up some buried treasure with a Chocobo (unlocked a trophy!), and explored. I've pretty much poked into every nook and cranny of Gran Pulse, so now it's time to get working on finishing the Cie'th Stone missions.

I also have a sudden craving for bananas...;)

I'm worried that he's going to ask me what the word "Orgies" means. We're watching a show all about Victorian-era London & environs :)

I'm very tempted to fire up FFXIII tonight but I want to stick with Fragile for the time being. I might try out the Japanese voices to see how they sound. I like the English VO but there are one or two voices that might sound better in Japanese.

On another note, I've had an incredibly productive day. I 'blame' this new iPhone app (http://www.dunnitapp.com/) that I got last week. It's just a to-do list BUT it has achievements. It's deadly... and productive :)

I understood a bit more when I looked at the wiki. Carol and Max have a lot in common and Max realizes how Carol's tantrums have such a negative impact on everyone else. That's when he decides to head home.
