View Full Version : Movie scenes/shots that remind you of games...

I was just watching an interview of Robert Zemeckis. He said an interesting thing, that the future of movies is from video games, ie just like the current batch of writers and directors grew up with comic books and have implemented techniques into film, similarly the next generation will take inspiration from video games.
This reminded me of that humongous long-shot from Children of Men, the on-foot chase towards the end. the scene really looked like something from RE4 or Gears. Of course the movie and the game came out around the same time, but still the similarity is there.
So what are some scenes that remind you games.

I thought I had one, but I realized I had thought of the opposite. It was that Metal Gear Solid 4 looks like a movie. The shaky camera during some of the cutscenes makes it look like you're actually there (and that someone is holding the camera).
But I agree with you on the Children of Men thing. Actually, aside from being reminiscent of a video game, that's really just an overall fantastic shot.

What the hell??
Blezinski on the what type of actor he wants for gears movie:
"You know... like a Clive Owen type; somebody who can actually act and is incredibly charismatic. And they can put him on a workout plan for six months so he can build the muscle mass he needs."
Freaky!!
Also, was MGS4 your first game in the series? do try the others, they are awesome!

Hahaha, Cliffy must have read your thread or something.
I remember posting a picture of John Travolta's face in Wild Hogs because it totally reminded me of Marcus (with that bandana thing and all). John Travolta would be an odd choice though. I just thought he reminded me of him. The other actor who does is Ron Perlman, but Clive Owen's pretty badass, too.
Anyway, my first Metal Gear was MGS3. I singled out MGS4 because it looks the best graphically (obviously), so it reminded me most of a movie. I never played the older Metal Gear games, but I hear they're quite good. It's just always hard for me to go backward in a series because the graphics and controls (sometimes) aren't as great.

I just watched Bordello of Blood, and the last 30 minutes totally reminded me of a video game.
Like, the part where they spray all the vampire prostitutes with water guns while "Ballroom Blitz" is playing in the background. Then, as they're about to leave, the dude realizes that the main vampire's still alive and that he still has to kill her. I can just totally imagine that part where he realizes she's still alive as a cutscene in a video game. Then the rest of the game is him and the other lady trying to kill her.

idk...the scenes in Star Wars where your right in the cockpit with the rebel pilots, especially on the Battle of Hoth.
Just about anything from Crank. That was a giant video game in movie format.

I haven't noticed this myself, but my dad often complains that when he watches movies now they have scenes and sequences that seem like they were made for a video game instead of a movie. I don't know what examples he's given, though, 'cuz I try to tune out curmudgeonly grousing.
Oh, there was the scene in Die Another Day when Moneypenny has the VR headset on, but in that instance that's what they were going for. I got nothin'.

Oldboy, the hallway fight, reminds me of side scrolling beat 'em ups!!

This actually reminds me too of 300 and that long side-take that would switch in and out of slow motion. Actually a good chunk of that flick/comic could easily been something out of a game.

Wow, good call. Oldboy's one of my favorite movies, but it completely slipped my mind.

watching The Mummy Returns I was continually like
"Hey it's the little rag doll bastards from diablo 2... those anubis warriors look like the mummy things in diablo 2.. The scorpian King looks an awful like one of the things you fight just before you get to Diablo.."

Indiania Jones 4. The whole movie was a series of shitty minigames. From the car/sword fight on a path of infinite length, to using the skull to solve puzzles... it felt like a shitty QTE heavy action game.
