Electronic Arts has signed a deal with Universal Pictures to produce a movie based on this year's Army of Two.

Penned by writer Scott Z Burns (Bourne Ultimatum), who describes the project as "a smart thriller that has real implications in the world we live in today." The film - still without a director or stars - will go into production in 2009.

"Smart" thriller? Did they play the game? I guess that question is sort of redundant considering most video game adaptations.

What the fuck? Why do movie makers choose suck crappy games to translate to the screen?

What? Why? Is there any demand for this movie to be made, anywhere, at all?

Did this game really do well enough to warrant a movie? Theres a ton of other IP's out there that would make a better movie, yet this one gets green lit?

I didn't want to get too snarky in the newspost, but I agree with all of you. It's an...odd choice for a film. On the one hand, the story is pretty loose, so you can move it around and still retain the spirit of the game.

On the other, it was a middle of the road (at best) game with a completely undistinguished presentation. Gears of War doesn't have the deepest story, but at least it has some visual flair. Ao2 is completely undistinguished.

Awesome. This is great news. If there was ever a way we could redeem the video game movie, this has to be it.

/sarcasm

Why can't, just once, I be the one with heaps of money to throw around and make these sorts of decisions. I could make the Bioshock movie good ffs, which is more than Verbinski has ever managed with anything. Even his morning log is usually full of holes!

My original post aside when I think of Army of Two the movie I think of Commando meets Lethal Weapon in the Middle East. Honestly? I think it could be very fun and as long as they don't try to mirror it's cousin it shouldn't be too hard to pull off.

I think the real world implications are in reference to Blackwater, i.e. army privatization. Unfortunately, this potential gem is going to be drowned in the crap that is Army of 2

This movie has Uwe Boll written all over it

This only proves my longstanding belief that cocaine use is still rampant among Hollywood producers.

Maybe they are on whatever Gary Busey (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AsSTJNz9cxs&feature=related) has been on since, well I don't know, he has always been crazy as fuck as far as I can tell.

Busey's lymph nodes actually produce a narcotic. If only we could harvest that shit...

I wonder if it is addictive? I mean, it wouldn't be a big deal for him but what happens when I get my hands on the new GB wonder drug?

Guys come on Army of Two had great characters. They loved both killing terrorists AND putting gold on their guns. And each other.

Okay, I'm with you guys. Not the best game story ever. Maybe they're going to take it and turn the movie into a social commentary (if we're lucky).

If they accepted the cheesiness, it could be as epic as the picture you paint.
I just have no faith in Hollywood dealing with video game properties. I expect it to be some kind of dramatic anti-terrorist clusterfuck. If they prove me wrong...that's great.

Hmmm....private soldiers with no regard for life or the law, a rediculous penchant for tacky gold plating and latent homosexual tension? On second thought, this movie could be incredible!

One thing I couldn't stand about the game is that it takes three buttons to throw a grenade properly.

Ugh. Poor choice for a game>movie translation. Auto-fail.

At least this way, there is a fair chance the movie could be better than the game. And we wont have to suffer through something like another Max Payne being butchered.

Of all games they choose this? I guess if you get 2 GOOD actors it could work... Nope, never mind, it will never happen....
