Who's getting it? I think I'll be picking this up on Sunday, if only for new songs to play. I do dislike how many songs are on both games though. I mean, even the pre-release DLC has a song from Rock Band:

Classic Rock Track Pack
Price: 440 Microsoft Points
Downloadable Track Pack featuring "Hot Blooded" by Foreigner, "Rock and Roll Band" by Boston, and "Jessie's Girl" by Rick Springfield.

Neversoft Track Pack
Price: Free
Downloadable Track Pack for Guitar Hero World Tour featuring "Anything" by An Endless Sporadic and "Electrorock" by Sworn.

Guitar Duel Track Pack
Price: Free
Downloadable Track Pack featuring the Zakk Wylde and Ted Nugent Guitar Duel tracks from Guitar Hero World Tour

At least they changed the pricing to compete with Rock Band.

I've played it at my Best Buy and the guitar (for better or worse) feels exactly like the Les Paul. The touch pad buttons are basically nonexistent and are even more useless than the solo buttons on the Rock Band guitars because they don't stick out of the neck at all and have absolutely no spacing between them. The drums were already broken so I can't speak for them.

Anyone know how the game plays when your using Rock Band drums?

Don't forget Death Magnetic is playable in this too. I'd get World Tour if I had the money for it.

I'm a huge music game guy, have been for 10 years since Parappa and Beatmania. I'll definitely be getting this. I played it at Best Buy yesterday, and it's pretty much Rock Band. If you get one rock game this year, make it Rock Band 2. While this isn't as good, it's certainly $60 good.

The orange pad dissapears, notes are re-mapped to a four pad configuration.

I'm at a loss for what to do about GH:WT.... I tried out the new GH guitar at Best Buy and I think it's great. The drums were extremely quiet and had a great bounce to them. The few songs that I played, however, did not impress me note chart-wise. At my heart, I'm a Rock Band guy. I just want the best instruments that are available. I think I'm going to wait and read some impressions on now the two sets measure up against each other and then make a decision. If I end up getting a guitar then I'll probably get the guitar / game bundle since it's only 30 bucks more than buying a stand alone guitar.

I don't even think I'm renting it. I have no faith at all in Neversoft after seeing what they did with GH3 and the way they've handled PR with this game turns me off even more. I'm way too busy enjoying RB2 and the plethora of music available in it.

Yeah, I'm just worried about two things:

1.) The difficulty, whether it be the ridiculousness that was Guitar Hero III hard or too easy in fear of being too hard. (Hot for teacher looks ridiculously hard on guitar...)

and

2.) There will be very little unique DLC and alot of songs will already be on Rock Band. Though I doubt I will be getting lots of DLC for this (or even any at all), I don't want the two games to have indistinguishable setlists. If a song I like does come out for both, I will probably get it on Rock Band as I already have over 220 songs.

Since they're not selling their instruments without it, I'm getting this.

I'll be renting it first thing Sunday. I don't think it's gonna dethrone Rock Band though.

I'm getting the bundle, and I'll be selling the disc back soon afterward.

I'll definitely be picking up the game/guitar version on Sunday since I already have the RB2 drums. I'm a fan of the Les Paul and I could use another wireless guitar. I just wish they hadn't done the detachable neck thing again. I'm fairly certain that was the reason my first Les Paul crapped out on me. It's nice to see the palm button for star power though. Y'know, in case the tilt function craps out.

I probably won't be sinking much money into DLC on this game though. I have WAY too much invested into Rock Band to start buying for two games.

I'm sure it'll be fun, but yeah, I'm a Rock Band fan all the way.

...I have loved Rockband and adore Rockband 2.
I have now got to play GHWT and for me...it blows Rockband away. First the instruments are fucking FINE. My lord.
The slide on the guitar is freaking awesome to use.
The drums play wicked well.
But after spending a couple hours playing with the music maker...just amazing. The custom characters are far more fleshed out.
I am all over this.
I love Rockband 2's soundtrack and this version of GH has some excellent tracks but as always its a give and take. However, in the end not only the songs but the custom made stuff is also why I like it and they are VERY close to making you feel like your thrashing around on your own. The studio is hard to get a handle on at first but when you start beat recording and sliding its fucking wicked.

Competition is a good thing. Hopefully they keep one upping each other.

I was just about to remind people of this point:

Music Maker

Once you see how fucking DEEP that thing is...it really blows away anything being done with Rock Band. Plus, it opens up an AMAZING amount of content since you can download other people's music they have created.

Both games are now on even playing fields and people can actually start to make better comparison's about which one is better.

My pick goes to Guitar Hero.

I was going to say this tips the whole thing in Guitar Hero's favor, but after finding out that the songs can only be 3 minutes long...that just puts a damper on the whole system.

...which is a shame because I really wanted to play some Okkervil River or Beirut at some point.

Now, granted, it would've been removed immediately, but a boy can dream.

I was waiting for a bunch of obscure metal bands to have like 9 minute epics on here...but alas it will never come to fruition. Stupid time limits. At least people can put up cover bands of Pig Destroyer or something and Harmonix will never know.
