The Secret World finally gets gameplay footage.

After being announced to much fanfare and bullshot, I must say even I expected at least a little more than Age of Conan with guns. I have an innate distrust of Funcom after their last two MMOs, but coming as it does from a guy whose games people seem to actually respect, I thought if anything might pull their heads from their asses, it might be this game.

This looks ugly and awkward and completely standard for Funcom really.

At this point Turbine continues to remain the only old guard MMO developer who seems able to pull themselves up to proper AAA status.

Seeing as how this isn't going to come to console anymore than Age of Conan is, I just went straight to IM, treating it as PC news. ;)

My guess?

It'll be just like AoC. Awesome tutorial area, with full voice acting and the like, and decent MMO gameplay. After a month or two, it'll be patched to utter shit, causing the player base to leave in droves. They'll attempt to backstep this in huge ways that will in the end fix the game and make it somewhat playable, if not a total shell of its former self.

AoC was worth 20 bucks, if only for Tortage.

I'm a fan of Tornquist's previous games, and have been following TSW since the initial viral marketing a few years ago. As someone who got their fingers burned by AoC, I am still, for some reason, quietly optimistic about this game. If only for the fact that it's not your average fantasy or sci-fi setting. I'm a sucker for Lovecraft influenced games too.

I don't get the reasoning behind showing off your blatantly crappy combat in order to promote your MMO. It's not like all the Tornquist fans are queuing up to kick arse and it's clearly not entertaining enough to pull action fans in.
