So I'm looking for a new game. I could buy Far Cry 2, but I feel like something sci fi/fantasy. So I'm not sure it will appeal to me. I would buy Dead Space, but apparently the PC control scheme is horrible (anyone got the PC version?).

So I've started looking at the budget games on Amazon. I can buy the Dawn of War anthology, which includes Dawn of War, Dark Crusade and Winter Assault. Have never played Dawn of War, but after reading about Warhammer 40k on its wiki, it sounds pretty interesting.

I could also buy Stalker, which I've been thinking of for a while. I still cant bring myself to buy it for some reason.

So.... what do you guys think? I guess I might enjoy Far Cry 2 - I did enjoy both Far Cry and Crysis up until the monsters appeared, so I guess I could enjoy Far Cry 2. I dont know why I'm reluctant to buy FPS games devoid of monsters, I guess I never enjoyed WWII FPS games. Maybe I enjoy FPS games with monsters when they are done well (Halo, Half Life) and not when they are done badly (Far Cry 1, Crysis).

Is Dawn of War any good?

DoW is awesome, but so is Far Cry 2 and Dead Space. Different games, really. DoW is fast-paced RTS (ie Company of Heroes) that is really amazing. I've only completed the first DoW game, but its what introduced me to the 40k universe and it totally sucked me in. But, if you enjoyed the beginning of Far Cry and Crysis you will fucking love Far Cry 2.

Haven't heard anything else concerning Dead Space's alleged control issues on the PC. I don't think its much of an issue, since we're not hearing about it.

I've read two reviews which cited the controls as a major problem with the game. I dont think I'm keen to buy a game with a bad control scheme, since I think its so important in how you enjoy a game.

I'm trying to decide between Far Cry 2 and DoW. It might end up being Far Cry 2 actually.

If you do not own STALKER you are a terrible person.

I ended up buying both Dawn of War: Anthology and Stalker. I didnt buy Far Cry 2 because it seemed no one who bought it from Amazon was able to activate their game at all - apparently Ubisoft "forgot" to upload the serial keys to the database. I'm sorry, DRM is bad enough, but not even being able to play the game and needing to phone customer service is just too much. I might buy it sometime next month, if they sort it out (well, after Fallout 3 anyway).

You will not regret buying DoW. Right now I am on the second last race of Soul-Storm in the single player campaign, which is to say I've played the single player campaign 7 times, once with each faction.

Fallout 3 comes out on Tuesday. 'nuff said.

EDIT: Durr I noticed you said budget game but you are talking about Dead Space and Far Cry 2. I'm confused. Either way Fallout 3 will be a hell of a deal. $50-$60 for 100+ hours of gameplay!

Is Stalker really that good that you would be willing to speak such blasphemy?

It's very deep. Takes a bit to get into, but they truly made a world that you can get lost in...

I didn't think much of it, until about an hour in, when I made it a couple of zones away, I was called to help defend a warehouse from the "bad guys"...it all just fell into place at that moment, the intense firefights, etc...

Not in the UK. Comes out on Friday for us. I have literally nothing new to play, so I was in dire need of games.

Well, I said budget games because I had kinda already ruled Dead Space and Far Cry 2 so I was mostly considering older games, but I also wanted opinions on Far Cry 2 and Dead Space. I'll probably buy Far Cry 2 in a few months.

It really is. You cannou help but think of how much Fallout the designers played back in the day. There is a lot of Fallout in STALKER.

No. Not even close.
Stalker is good, and then only ok if you do not have the HORRIBLE amounts of problems people have. I was lucky and did not. Finally beat it. It was ok. But its not even like the other games. And its also NOT like Fallout. Ok there is radation and monsters. But the humour and such is not even close...in fact not there. I won't lie to you just to get you to buy it.
Its an ok first person shooter.
Actually thinking about it I guess you could consider the humour in the horrible translations and bad bad acting and weird AI bugs as funny.

World of Goo?

For me, I would go with Peggle Nights. Believe it or not, I find that there is more to that game than World of Goo. I just tried the demo, but I have played Lemmings, and Eets, games like that, World of Goo felt like a developer demo for something of that ilk, not a game in itself. Peggle Nights really shines in the overhauled level design.
