The indie classic Mount & Blade (http://www.taleworlds.com)'s expansion is now available for pre-order on several services, including Steam (http://store.steampowered.com/app/48700/) and Direct2Drive (http://www.direct2drive.com/2/9170/product/Buy-Mount-and-Blade:-Warband-Download). This isn't an ordinary preorder, because preordering gets you into the beta immediately so you can start hacking away in multiplayer without delay, and the beta only a week from release is very stable and completely playable.

Saddle Up as Mount & Blade: Warband Pre-orders Begin

Pre-order marks the start of the single player Beta

NEW YORK – March 23, 2010 – Take the reins and prepare for all-new equestrian warfare with the opening of the pre-order for Mount & Blade: Warband, the upcoming sequel to the beloved Mount & Blade from Paradox Interactive. Gamers who pre-order Mount & Blade: Warband will gain immediate access to the single and multiplayer beta.

Mount & Blade: Warband is available for pre-order via participating retailers: http://www.mountandbladewarband.com/buy

Developed by TaleWorlds, Mount & Blade: Warband adds multiplayer battles for the very first time, as well as a new campaign and complete graphical overhaul. Both on foot or mounted upon wild stallions, the bloodthirsty fight for the throne of Calradia rocks medieval battlegrounds once again on March 30th in North America and via digital retailers. Other regions will follow shortly thereafter.

Mount and Blade + More Stuff = My Money Becoming Their Money

But, not until I have some free time, as I know how it will suck me back in and interfere with other things I should be doing.

Can I DL the beta client through Steam?

Panthera

Yep. I bought it yesterday on steam and it let me install the client immediately. I played a siege battle for a while last night, it was intense. Crossbows and archers dueling, knights riding out the front gate, infantry scrambling on walls...

Everything changes when there are people involved.

Sold then, I waited a very long time to play the first one, not making that mistake again.

Curse you! Trying to tempt me like this.

So far, almost exactly the same as the first, with some Native Expansion tossed in. Lot of script errors, but hey, beta.

Is this a stand alone game or does it require the original to run?

Looks to be stand alone, though I'm not possitive.

Damn do I wish I had money right now. While its not that expensive, thirty bucks for a muliplayer expansion is a bit out of my price range for the time being. Still, I doubt I'll be able to hold back for very long. The prospect of getting my friends in on some Mount & Blade seiges is just too exciting to pass up.

Expect to see me toppling lifelessly over the ramparts in a city near you.

Stand alone, it's like a half sequel.

Yeah, I didn't have M&B installed through Steam and it never asked me for it.

Well no lesbian marriage in vanilla, pity, have to wait for mods.

I like the new campaign idea. Starting your own faction/kingdom was noticably missing from the original. I may have to give this a download when I get home.

Damn. I just picked up M&B off of the Steam sale and literally have only played for a few hours. I should have just waited for the sequel. If I get this, why the hell would I play the original? The sequel sounds like it has everything the original has with better graphics and more features. Well either way the sequel is pretty cheap.

You can get most of the sequel in the original with a few simple mods.

I have the first one, and what I've played of it has been awesome. I really need to spend more time with it, especially now that a half-sequel is out.
