Announced via the PlayStation Blog (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/03/15/modnation-racers-release-date-pre-orders-and-box-art/) today, Sony's second game in the Play, Create, and Share line of games has finally gotten a date. LittleBigPlanet's kart racing brother will be on store shelves on May 25th for both the PS3 and PSP. The game allows players to create and share their own unique tracks and racers with an easy to use level editor. Sound familiar?
ModNation Racers has also received it's own set of retailer specific pre-order bonuses, Kratos for GameStop, Ratchet for Amazon, and Nathan Drake for Best Buy.

I thought this was going to be a PSN title only, a competitor to the free XBLA Avatar racing game...?

Good box art. If I were a preordering guy (or buying games at launch period) I'd get it from Amazon for the Ratchet bonus.

I'm looking forward to it, the gameplay videos look good to me.

This looks like a lot of fun. Here's hoping for a nice Mario Kart alternative.

This is one game I'd definitely check out if I had a PS3.

That's what I thought too.

Considering it was announced at last year's E3 as a full retail game and has always been that I'm not quite sure why that would have been misunderstood.

That would be great. There were some poor impressions from the beta a few months back, hopefully that's all cleaned up. I think it was mostly framerate issues.

Yeah I played around in the beta awhile ago. For some odd reason it takes ages to load anything, the loading screens themselves would freeze so it kept me wondering if it crashed whenever I hit that.
As for the actual gameplay it's basically a kart racer, the hook being it's sort of like LBP where you make your own racer, kart and tracks if you so feel inclined. I have a hard time passing judgement since I'm not really into racers. I'm guessing it'd be just as good as a Mario Kart game, just swap out the iconic characters for ones of your own making.

I'm pretty excited for this.
Please don't suck...please don't suck...please don't suck...
Looking forward to Media Molecule putting out character skins, track creation tools, tracks, weapons, and on, and on on the PSN store every single week for the next two years.

I'll see you and Gorvi on the race track. Don't be late :D
Now I need to decide which pre-order to go with.

I wouldn't look forward to Media Molecule putting out anything for this game. ;)

I'll be there!
As long as the foundation is solid for this game it has so much potential. I can't wait to see what kind of crazy tracks the user community comes up with. The toolset seems really versatile.

I'll be there too, so long as I have the cash for it.
And damn, now May is almost as busy as March. Now in May you have:
3D Dot Game Heroes
Alan Wake
Blur
Hexyz Force
Lost Planet 2
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
Red Dead Redemption
Split/Second
Super Mario Galaxy 2

I actually stopped trying after waiting around for ages. Greta way to put me off a game. I raced one race or something, but it felt floaty and I didn't have much fun.

Well, I'm sure there will be a ton of UGC, but MM will be selling skins, tracks, characters and what-not. There's LBP material on the PSN store virtually every week.

His point is that Media Molecule has nothing to do with this game. ;)
It's being developed by United Front Games.
