Look out folks, as we previously reported (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/showthread.php?t=1613), there are zombies coming to GTA IV.
In fact - Zombies are already there. I've just received an email from Rockstar Games confirming that a virus has broken free in Liberty City infecting players and turning them into zombies.
Players can track the status and count of the infection over at the Rockstar Social Club Website (http://socialclub.rockstargames.com/).
So what's the deal with this infection? Apparently the player doesn't even have to be wearing the zombie skin in order to infect other players, they only need to be having the Achievement "Let Sleeping Rockstars Lie". Also...look out for someone wearing yellow briefs. Seriously.
I suppose this is good news that the DLC isn't needed, but it's also a bit dissapointing; as the prospect of a giant zombie scenario set in Liberty City was VERY appealing.
So...are you infected?

Sweet, thanks. I may finally have a reason to try out GTA4 multi.

Soo....what exactly does this do then? From their site it doesn't sound like it changes any gameplay.

Boo-urns. Hopefully Rockstar will take our enthusiasm seriously and give us some serious zombie missions.

My guess is that it's got something to do with the upcoming DLC.

The fact that it's on the PS3 version as well may be an indication that it's not. As I mentioned before, this may simply be something to keep the fanbase through the release of SR2.

Yeah, no gameplay changes...and GTA4 stays on the shelf.

Well, so it's a viral achievement or something, huh?
Yeah, I have blacksmithing to do.
My guess is this only affects multiplayer?

I'm pretty sure it spills over into real life. My kid just tried to eat my brains. :D
Sorry...I'm a wiseass.

He wants to gain your knowledge.
He's going to die of starvation.
I will buy GTA IV if the DLC ends up being something game-changing awesome. Otherwise, I will cool my heels on the sidelines. Too bad it's not a zombie DLC. Toooo bad. :(

What is that all about? Or am I missing something? I don't have GTA4 but my buddy does, so there's a good chance I'll be playing this at his place.

I have the virus, I guess. My GTA4 profile has the zombie skin. :)
If you want it, find me online, and kill me in multiplayer. I can set up a time and place on Sunday if anyone wants to catch it. :)
Damn. I think I'd be interested in playing a GTA game if there were zombies in it. Cool for those of you who are fans of both the game and zombies, though, I guess.
So, if I were to buy this before going up North (to Greenland) would I have to play it over XBL to access the zombies, or could I just run over to Wal-Mart and pick this up and access 'em without being online?
Thanks!

I have that achievement, but... eh, it takes awhile for me to find anyone to play with online or whatever reason.

Wow, now I'm going to have to pop GTAIV back in. Good work rockstar.

If it's for both platforms how do PS3 owners get:
Achievement "Let Sleeping Rockstars Lie"

Is this done through multiplayer... free mode or something?

It's viral. So yeah, you need online access. And it isn't like the city is overrun with NPC zombies either. Just...other players being infected. So yeah, you need to go online with it.
It's actually a bit of let down to me.

You don't HAVE to have that achievement to get it. That's what the yellow briefs are all about.

I'm confused as to how this is anything new. The viral achievement 'Let Sleeping Rockstars Lie' has been around since the game released, and when you get it, you receive the Zombie skin. I got it within days of the games release.
How is this anything other than an attempt to get people playing GTA multi again?
That said, I'd love a real Zombie outbreak scenario in Liberty City.

Yeah, I have blacksmithing to do.Yup, this is pretty much not interesting at all. If it was in the game on release, I probably would have enjoyed getting the achievement. But I'm not going to pop the game in out of nowhere just for this.

Actually, it was. I'm surprised there are people who still don't have it. Those viral achievements spread like...well, viruses.
