I'm cleaning out the basement and I am going through old computer pieces. I think most of this has no value and should just be recycled, but the packrat in me keeps wondering if there is someone in the world who would actually want some of these things.

So, I'll list stuff here and let you all tell me it is trash and I should ditch it, or if, for some reason, you want it, I can sell / give it to you. Or, in the off chance that it really does have some value, I'll try to sell it some other way.

I'll start off with this old Seagate Medalist 6531. It is a 6.5 GB drive. Is there really any reason anyone, anywhere would want this?

I also have some old Zip disks sitting around. Do they even make Zip drives anymore?

And, this handful of old ram that I cannot even identify... this is garbage, right?

Don't throw computer hardware out with the trash. A lot of it does need proper disposal, it can't just go straight to landfill. "They also contain many toxic substances, such as dioxins, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), cadmium, chromium, radioactive isotopes, and mercury."

Oh, I know. I meant "get rid of." I'd take it to be recycled, not just put it out in our trash.

Yeah, recycle all of that. If you don't even know what kind of RAM you're looking at, it's useless to you.

So unless you've got parts of the original ENIAC, not worth keeping it.

That's just about 15 times as large as the hard drive I have IN MY COMPUTER downstairs.

I'm doing the very same thing right now. May I join you in your cause here? I was actually considering making my own thread until I saw yours. If you don't want me to threadjack, that's totally cool. I won't even be able to list my stuff until later anyways, so say the word and I'll just make my own.

I personally like removing the magnets from harddrives before tossing the rest of them.

I remember my first PC. "1.2 GBS OF HARD-DRIVE! you'll never fill that up!"

I am now running out of space in my 1TB external drive.

Thanks, this is exactly what my paranoid "Oh noes!1 I'm throwing monies away!1" self needs to hear.

Hey, feel free and join in. I have no problem sharing. :)
