Fess up, people. What games have you bought for Steam that you haven't even played once yet?

My list is thankfully pretty short:

Sam & Max Season 1: Episodes 5 & 6
Oddworld Abe's Oddysee and Exoddus
Star Wars: KOTOR
Max Payne 1 & 2

Games I've played only briefly:

Psychonauts
The Path

Panthera

I just installed Steam and have Battlefield Bad Company 2, Freedom Force and Freedom Force vs 3rd Reich that are downloading, figured I would get some game time on them finally.

Torchlight
Audio Surf
Some other game I bought during holiday sale that I can't check because I forgot my steam password.

So... 3 out of the 4 games I've bought. Actually they've never even been downloaded. I am so glad they were cheap.

Prior to the holiday Steam sale, the only games I'd bought were Penny Arcade Adventures vol. 1 and Civ IV: Colonization. Only game from the sale I've managed to play yet is Plants vs. Zombies. So my remaining list is:

The Orange Box (though I've played some HL2 - boxed copy)
Order of War
Mass Effect (have played it on 360)
S.T.A.L.A.K.E.R. Clear Sky
and Shadow of Chernobyl

Sweet Lincoln's mullet! All of those are unplayed, Duke?

Every single one of them.

That's 89 games out of the 244 on my steam account. 36% of the games I own are not only unplayed, but not even installed once.

A few, I've played on other systems;

I.e. Dead Space, Assassins Creed ... And a few I bought to have on steam rather than hard copies... I.e. Battlefield 2, Gun, every Rainbow 6 and the Witcher.

Spellforce 2: Gold Edition
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II
Crysis Complete
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky
The Witcher: Enhanced Edition

Some of those I simply couldn't play because my video card ran them poorly. I just installed a new 5770 last night and will hopefully get to try out some of them this next week or two.

I blame Steam sales. Once a game gets below $5, I'll grab it knowing full well I may never touch it. But just knowing it is there when I want to is worth $5 easily. Games like Mount and Blade, Psychonauts, Ghost Master, and Red Faction 2. I play most of them at least a little bit to see if they are worth more time. I will at the very least install them and start it up to make sure it works and set video settings. Now that I have a 360 controller for my PC, I have one less excuse to play Psychonauts.

Arphahat
03-10-2010, 06:55 PM
If there was only a way to sample them in a fun way to determine which ones you really want to play, all the while having fun discussing them with your fellow gamers. Hey, I might have an idea (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/showthread.php?t=15467). ;)

My list looks a lot like the longer ones here, but I don't think all the old id games count. There's a loooot of games I've just barely touched too but I've stopped worrying about it. I'm not playing anything outside of competitive games atm and I hope that when I feel like playing something that's single player I'll enjoy it more. Right now I get restless and nitpicky about single player games, probably because I've sat by the computer too much so it's a habit instead of something I choose to do

Most of the time, when you see that odd game in my list, it is from a package deal that I got dirt cheap. Elf Bowling game with the Luxor and other Mumbo Jumbo games. I'm not counting Chaos Rising, since it only released tonight. So that's 27, though I think you can chuck the ones that came with my Blue Shift key (enter any valid HL1 key, and get everything in the Platinum Pack), so...21? CS, DoD, DM Classic, Gish, Ricochet, and TFC all came with HL1, right?

That's actually less than I expected, though including TF2, World of Goo, and Crayon Physics as "played," when they've each had under two hours put in, is a bit of a stretch.

I think this is a common issue with HL2 because of its field-of-view. There's a fix on the Steamforums somewhere that'll let you play it without puking.

Here's my list:

Half-Life 2: Episode 1

I think it will be big enough. A lot of the games are smaller. Only a few have been more than 1GB, although some, such as Batman: AA are quite large (13GB I believe).

Some of these are a bit iffy (such as minor expansion and mulitplayer only versions) and I did play the demos for a few of these, but by and large these are completely untouched. Behold:

I should have taken the time to post that list back when the thread was actually active. :o

How many games is that? Bigger than mine (83)?

116, by my count.

Is anyone going to count that list? If not, I'll write a program to count it.

116. As fun as writing little programs like that is, you can just paste it into notepad and view status bar. :p

I already counted it by hand. :p

Well, all it's GOT is a first level. We're talking like 10-15 minutes of gameplay. In your defense, though, you didn't really "purchase" Lost Coast. ;)

Lol, all I used it for was the benchmarking.

I feel like computer scientists always do things the hard way. I didn't even think about using Notepad's status bar.

Multiplayer component of Crysis Warhead.

Oh well shit, that lets me knock down my pile of shame by one. Yay, getting smaller all the time! (Okay, not really: I'm counting DM Classic as a separate entry, so I should probably leave it be.)

Also, let me just say: Jesus Christ, Mags, are you going to finish that list before you die? I thought I was bad.

You've never played Counter-Strike?

GAAHH!! D:

MagGnome

Probably not. :p

That won't stop me from (not really) trying though!

Edit - No, I haven't, and that's one game on that list I don't ever plan on touching.

Which one, CS? Eh, it's OK. I tried it with a pal who was way into it. Dunno. I prefer the style and gameplay of TF2 instead.

Yes, Counterstrike. I have no desire to ever play it.

I also don't care about CS or CS:S. I have a few friends that play it, and my brother in law tries to make everyone play it when he's in town, but aside from that I never touch the game on my own. However, I have played them both, but not because I wanted to.

Does playing the single-player tutorial several eons ago count? ;)

How do you know you don't want to play it when you've never played it? :-P

To each his own I guess

CS is pretty terrible overall when there are so many HL and HL2 mods to choose from. I don't quite get the combination of gun fetishy weapon selection with unrealistic weapons.

Two reasons:

1)I'm not a fan of FPS in general, but especially when played online.

2)CS has a reputation that definitely turns me off.

Try hitting up gun game, surf maps, and be sure to thanks cs for all those zombie mods/l4d, because it all started there.

Incidentally, it occurs to me we could probably also list our backlog from other DD outlets, too, for completeness's sake. ;)

Sacred 2: Fallen Angel (Impulse)

There, I feel better now.

In an effort to abate the horror that dawned on me upon compiling my list for this thread, I went all out and played a fuck tonne of Splinter Cell and Batman this week.

I'm a happy stealth games fan today.

MagGnome

Batman is a ton of fun, but the Bane fight sucks.

Batman does not move quickly, and the controls are not conducive to doing so. Why put in a battle that requires me to run around like an idiot?

I hate boss battles.

Yes, really. Batman can't exactly leap around like Mario or anything, which is what I feel needs to be done in the fight. That fight especially sucks with the keyboard and mouse controls, which have worked great for me until this point.

I'm not a fan of boss battles anyway, so I wish I could just skip the damn thing.

The Scarecrow thing was pretty neat though. I'd rather see more of that.

I didn't enjoy that fight very much either. I got stuck on the thugs and stuff in the environment a lot. Doing the dodge move but not getting out of the way is frustrating. As far as annoying boss fights go it wasn't that bad but it was still annoying.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. The rest of the game is a lot of fun, so hopefully I can get past Bane the next time I play.
