This one gets the rumor tag, but enough of the information comes from official sources that I feel comfortable posting it.

We all know that Rockstar is going to be delivering two sets of Xbox 360 exclusive downloadable content for Grand Theft Auto IV. We've been told multiple sources that the first episode will be released 'this fall'. Now we may have an idea of just what that content may be about: Zombies.

The image you see above is a screen capture from the Rockstar Social Club (http://socialclub.rockstargames.com/) site. The full text reads:"Contagious Disease

"No one shall enter or leave this premises without the proper documentation issued by Eugenics Inc. No person expect an authorized agent or employee of Eugenics Inc. shall alter, destroy or remove this sign. Anyone violating these regulations will be arrested and prosecuted by the federal authorities.

"By order of Liberty City Police Department / Eugenics Inc."According to Joystiq, Eugenics Inc is a building in Bohan that hadn't come into play in the game...yet. Now this isn't quite comfirmation that Liberty City is going to go all '28 Days Later', but you have to admit that it makes for an intriguing prospect.

That would actually be badass. I wonder if there is a small campaign to it.

You can thank Saint's Row 2 I'm sure.

I really hope this is true. I've tried to like the GTA series but the same thing always seems to happen to me when I play them. Starts out strong and I'm enjoying it but in a few hours I am bored to tears. Zombies could change that for me.
While I don't think it will hold a candle to Left 4 Dead, it could be a good alternative to Dead Rising.

ooh, this might make me pop GTA IV back in the box!

I'd definately pop the disk back in the box for some zombie action. Finally those gigantic trucks and vans will serve a purpose.

I beat you by almost 50 minutes on this one Doc...where you been?

This is exciting, but I'm going to wait and hear about the execution before I buy. I'm pretty narrative driven in my play, so I'll be looking for additional missions and not just a zombie add-on. Also, it has to be large enough (10 hours or so) for me to buy back the original game too.

Zombies. OMFG. I think I love GTA even more if that were even possible.

This could be a lot of fun. However, I don't think there's a mall in Liberty City, which throws all my zombie plans out the window.

A) People have been asking for this since Vice City. I know. I was one of them.

B) I'm pretty sure Rockstar didn't just see SR2 and get cracking on art assets and stuff. Especially since, as others have said in the other thread, some of the assets are already there on the disc.

Fuck yes. I'd throw GTA IV back in the 360 if this were true.

Myself and Shortround were sat at the top of a construction crane with a massive stocpile of weapons, randomly sniping passers by, and we remarked how great a zombie mode would be. So...yes please!

C'mon, who hasn't asked for some zombie love at some point in their lives. I'm just saying it's rather coincidental that they announce this on the heels of Saint's Row 2 considering that no information has come out since the game's release. Also, is it safe to assume that those same assets are located on the PS3 version? I haven't been following what's been going on, I'm just ow putting pieces together.

C'mon, who hasn't asked for some zombie love at some point in their lives. Are you implying that there will be Zombie hookers? Cold, wet and clammy coffee?

Anyways, zombie hookers will make for a great time.

Agreed.

I think you guys are getting way to excited for what will probably end up being one warehouse with twelve zombies in it. And they all want to be your friend so you have to pick them up and take them to play fucking darts.

If this is true, I'll consider buying GTA IV! :)

Looking at the social club site - the comment on zombies running riot in LC is only to do with the viral multiplayer thing. I think that explains this image, I'm sorry to say.

So basically your just running around in the new zombie skin? No hordes of zombies or even just having the pedestrians turn into zombies? BOOOOOOOOOO.

What I really want is a full open world game that focuses on zombies. Dead Rising is good, but I'd like another. . . with a full city rather than just the mall, and with various plans and endings.

Hmm,, imagine Graw 2 with it's 12 player co-op on a Campaign against zombie infested Los Angeles trying to rescue the scientist who has the cure.

Except that you aren't super soldiers, but are instead simply people who have not yet been zombified. Choose from "classes" that have various skills and starting stories. . .

the EMT who goes to the scene only to find that the injured patient wants to eat his brains - Gets a bonus to all healing
the EMT who goes to the scene only to find that the injured patient wants to eat his brains, the ex-hitman now-soccer Mom who is driving her son home from karate. She swerves to avoid a zombie kid who has ran out into the road and drives through the window of a gun shop. Her son is dragged from the car, and he escapes being bitten by beating the crap out of them but is soon surrounded and obviously worried. Soccer Mom shoots the zombies around her son with amazing accuracy, and the boy looks over amazed to see his cookie-baking mother looking like a bad ass. (Play as Mom and get bonuses to gun use. Play as the son to get bonuses to melee damage and the ability to escape zombie holds quickly).
Cheerleader - the football game goes horribly wrong. (Agile escaping and fast run speed, but occasionally trips and falls for no reason).

Now, weave these starting stories together (and the starting stories of several other characters) so that all of the characters meet up and begin the shared narrative of how they escape with each playing a vital role at some point in the "story". I can think of reasons why you would have an open world that can't simply be escaped by grabbing the first car and motoring out of the city, and reasons why the characters work together, but it would be a really, really long post.

Maybe I'll get to make something like this someday.
