This will be hitting pretty soon. One thing though, will this carry over my squad and gear from the first time around? Or do they start from scratch?

I remember reading that you can choose to continue your squad, or start a new one.

You can continue with your old squad.
I ran through the game on my new pc over the christmas period and knocked up a well equiped squad, just for when this hit.
Will be picking it up to crush some traitor skulls.

Yeah, I've got a part way through primarch campaign that I need to try and finish before the release. I doubt it'll happen though as Bad company 2 has me all tied up.
Now this I'm looking forward to, had all my squads maxed out and swimming in wargear. There shall be Blood for the Blood God and Skulls for his Throne.
Screw the loyalists and their corpse god.

My friend and I pre-ordered together, so we could continue our co-op campaign, and so we could gift each other Saint's Row 2, since that wound up working really funny.

I finished once on Sergeant, and once on Captain. I was tempted to go for a Primarch playthrough before CR came out, but it never came to pass; my friend and I were too caught up in Sins: Diplomacy.

I'm interested in finding out what's new with the MP. That's what kept me hooked for a long time. That one patch that changed all the balancing got me disinterested. Not because I wasn't happy with the changes, but it just changed everything. It was like having to learn a new game, but getting no new game to make it interesting to bother learning.

I still haven't really tried out the DoW 2 multiplayer so at some point we might have to try a 3vs3 and you can teach me some things.

I tried loading Chaos Rising tonight and it got stuck at 4205 MB. Now, granted, this could be because I didn't have DoW II itself installed (which I'm now doing), but it's telling me the download is "Suspended." Is that because of my lack of the original, or did it just straight eff up?

I think you do need the original. I updated my original (3.5 GB download) DoWII and then when I went to download and install CR it was exactly 1MB of download. When I look at the disk space used by DoWII and CR they're exactly 1 MB different, so I think they share data.

I've been playing some multi 1 on 1's as Chaos. Holy jesus. I did not think they'd make a race slower than Vanilla SM, but Papa Nurgle is not a god who favors getting places... at all. It's pretty fun though. First Achievement was Plague Father, oh yes.
Plaguelord is defensive and similar to Techmarine, awesome. Plague Tanks are slow but extremely tough, awesome. Plague Marines are so durable... and slow, Awesome.
It's like they heard everything I wanted and made it so. Aside from balance, I wish they'd hire someone competent as balance lead. But I'll take Nurgle as a solid consolation prize.
Can I just buy this and safely ignore DOWII?
yes you can. Chaos Rising is it's own game if you don't own DoW2. You'll also be able to play with people who play/use DoW vanilla also. You won't be able to play anything other than Chaos tho. :)

Am I imagining something is wrong with the single player campaign?
The AI seems to be acting really retarded. I've changed the stances etc and yet they still do stupid things, like standing next to a tank with a rocket launcher and NOT firing. It's rather annoying.

No, you're not imagining it. When Codicier and I were playing, he got to hear a nice rant about it.
What happens is that vehicles get "tangled up" in infantry squad pathing. It's a common tactic online to just rush your vehicle up into an infantry squad to keep the units constantly moving, thereby keeping them from firing. It seems the AI is now "bugged" to do this to your squads. I want the programmer consumed by a Horror for making the AI exploit a severe flaw in the pathing mechanics like that.

God damnit. I think this happened last time with DoW2, but I don't remember what fixed it. After about 15-20mins of playing my computer just crashes. Tried updating my driver, but ATI sucks with it's Catalyst program, and I keep getting weird errors. I don't know if this is the problem, or if it's making shit go wacky. Games worked fine before, too...
Error is currently: "Could not load file or assembly 'CLI.IMplementation, Version=2.0.3685.42240, Culture=neutral, PublickKeyToken=90ba9c70f846762e' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.
I've gone through, uninstalled the driver, swept with diskcleaner and cleared everything ATI out and reinstalled (and changed the install path to /ATI not /ATI Technologies, which fixed an original error that wouldn't let me install... Now this one. From what I've checked with Google-Fu, I'll have to be going in and monkeying with the assembly, and I'm not sure about doing it. Anyone have any tips, or ideas?

Only thing I have noticed so far is that the game appears to be shitting out an absurd amount of items.
I had to finish my DoWII campaign because I guess I never had, and on the final battle it crapped out over 20 items, including 10 duplicate dreadnought armors. Then once I go and load the game up, it really only gave me 2 of the armors. so not sure what is going on there but it's odd.

Well, I got a few missions into the campaign now.
For some reason I get a few bugs I never had on the campaign of the original, and I don't get them in MP in this, but while they are annoying, they aren't deal breakers. They can be a pain in the ass sometimes. All I've had is sometimes my units just ignore orders. I know I'm at the right range for the weapon, they should be able to use the ability, etc etc, but they just don't. It's caused me to lose a unit once or twice which can be a pain.
I like the addition of the Librarian, although to be blunt I kinda put him on the back burner, even though he is given some nice items.
They have made a good effort to make it even more WH40K than the original which is good. Shamefully power claws suck in comparison to the other gear I'm finding.
Best addition so far has to be The Space Hulk parts. Especially since the first mission kicked out a grovey purple Termie armour my Force commander is now rocking around in. Make sure to check every crate to find it. I enjoyed that part since most my guys were in terminator armour and I loved the old space hulk games. With the DOW2 set up with worked rather well in giving you that old space hulk feel.
I haven't really seen too much of the corruption system. Since I'm too much of an emperor's pet to let my guys even go into the first tier of corruption, and imo it would just seem out of place for my marines to suddenly start shitting on shrines for the sake of it. I do enjoy the more subtle corruptions, such as the spoilered bit, since the longer you take the more corrupt you get and your marines start to say weird and crazy things as the warp slowly breaks down their minds.
All in all I'm enjoying it so far

Trust me, You don't even have to do the Corruption style mission objectives. Codicier and I found a fucking insane Lightning Claw he put on the commander (Makes him pretty much unkillable on Primarch) on top of a +100% experience banner. Then there's Termie armor, Bolters, Spewers, etc that are all much better than what you'd get as a follower of the Corpse God. Appealing to my loot greed is a much more tangible way of corrupting my characters than almost any other good/evil system I've run into.

Yeah, that already happened. I sold one bolter and it came BACK as an uber improved bolter I can no longer sell. It just sits there.... tempting me....
It's rather annoying I can't lose some of the shit librarian stuff clogging up my inventory.
Also, I sold a nice bit of termie armour by mistake and felt a little sad I couldn't get it back, but then I found the uber purple termie armour in that mission I spoilered a way back, which made up for it.
I've yet to find any decent lightning claws.

Well, short campaign was short.
I suppose expansion and all it couldn't go on forever, and with the evil or good paths it's a deffo replay.
I will say, the missions, where A LOT better than vanilla DOWII. They really pimped the co-op too, the last mission was practically built for co-op.
So, now I will have to go for a Primarch evil playthrough and find someone to team up with. Play about with The Last stand using a chaos sorcerer and try a few more tactics with chaos in MP. Still plenty to do!

Smaller amount of units to focus on. Heavy action RPG aspects (leveling, stats, abilities, gear). It's not about holding capture points so much as running through the levels as missions.
That and I actually like it, which is crazy since RTS games are usually a weak spot for me.
You can also listen to the FUDCast show on DoW II (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/showthread.php?t=12869).

From what he sounds like, Angelos' new VA is the same one as the original DOW VA. Interestingly, the guy who replaced him for DoWII was his brother who also provided voices for the first game. The third brother in the family also did the same.

The loot whore in me is sad I cannot play side missions (of which there are few) over and over prior to the final fight.
I started a game on Primarch, but due to losing my old save on that difficulty I started a new char, with sucky gear. Got my arse kicked on the second mission, till I realised I get no penalties for failing that mission, and loot drops..... and I gain experience...... hmmmm!
Now I just keep dying, over and over on that mission.

I'm on the other side. I've been liking the MP less and less from beta onward. Now though, I really enjoy the way the Nurgle units play. Negating much of my hatred for the incompetent balance team. (Seriously, who can fuck up that much in their job and still keep working? That must be the best job ever.)
I had a game where my 3 grenade squads, 2 Plague Marine squads, and my Plaguelord bunkered down in the middle and held the middle and top VPs on the new ice 1v1 map. Ended up winning with 20 points left and a squad of LC Assault Termies ripping my entire army to shreds. Watching a tier 1 unit win the match with grenades? Great. Also shitty that I didn't save the rep. :(
That said, the Bloodcrusher is total cheese. One is fine, but the cost of them and the no upkeep bug is just insane.

well that was... annoyingly... short.... 2 more side missions and one more campaign one and it would have felt just right I think. Would have also liked to see maybe times when you had 2 side missions and only had one you could pick, one being a 'good' mission to do the other the 'bad' one. Which one you pick would then impact how the next mission played out or something. For all that it was really fun and the missions felt much better than in DoWII and I will be doing another play through on evil.
One thing I did notice that was really cool was that you can balance redemption items with chaos ones. Only really needed to do it on the last mission on my FC, had termy armour with +3R and a hammer and shield with +3C and at the end screen I didn't have an indication of either effecting me so I presume that they balanced out.
Which I'll have to keep in mind for the next play through as it will let you use some of the cool items form the other side with out it effecting your corruption levels.

@Clanner
The one thing I've noticed with Chaos is that teir one can hold rather well. For short games it's almost not worth upgrading, well except maybe to unlock their equipment.
I had noticed a couple of things that were off in MP last night, but I've forgotten now.
I think I'm the only one getting annoying game breaking bugs in SP as well. One had a in game cut scene and then BAM, one unit was just frozen, wouldn't move, fall back, nothing. Having to complete primarch with 3 units was interesting. The loot whore in me has resorted to me just playing recklessly though. As there is no penalty for death, in fact you get to keep all your experience and gear collected so far that level (some random drops are sweet) it rewards you for ignoring cover and rushing blindly in.

Are you playing the same game I am, Narradisall? I haven't had any bugs or glitches of any kind, and while it's not as expansive or epic as the first campaign, it's sufficient as an expansion campaign for me (though that one's purely a matter of taste). On top of that, I'm playing co-op, and haven't had any problems with GFWL thus far.
Maybe co-op is the creamy centre of the Cadbury Creme Egg or something.

I think it really is just my bad luck, so far I've had....
- Units freeze in a mission (just one squad), won't move, won't respond to any action. Managed to complete the mission with 3 squads, which was a bit more difficult, but not a game breaker, annoying though.
- Got the the final cinematic before the 'final' mission'. Press a button to skip it since I'd seen it before (was 2nd playthrough on Primarch) map loaded up over Aurelia. No mission shown. Tried travelling to other planets (no missions anywhere), reloading the game, restarting it, nothing. The final mission was just "gone". Had to restart Primarch campaign, lost hours of play...
- Online co-op. Weird random drop out at the end of a mission, had to replay (could be host connection of GFWL issue though). Replay mission.
- Also noted loading up one campaign, then back to menu and loading up another campaign, some of the stats from the previous campaign will *transfer* to the loaded one. i.e. Camp 1 @ 18 days, load up another Camp 2 (which was a day 6 or something), now says day 18 and has a weird splice of stats from both the campaigns.
I have had other niggling issues pop up, general slow ass GFWL issues. Some of the bugs just seem really.... sloppy. I also dislike the complete lack of bug fixing in this game. Bugs like the Army painter resetting to default occassionally, while not game breaking have been in since day 1 on the original. They fix nothing.
Game balance is LAUGHABLE online. I've seen games with spamming carnifaxs, those demon hounds, scout spam/termies (which was me) and other such combo's which unless you counter with something equally unbalanced are just impossible to beat. I mean the game tells you tact marines etc > scouts. Which is just untrue, as scout spam can literally slaughter most forces they can throw at you early game.
Don't get me wrong, I love the WH40k universe and the DOWII games are a great interpretation on it, and for the most part it's been executed well. Bug testing and balancing are really not a strong suit here though. Maybe i's because I came across a few rather annoying and one game breaking bug that I'm now just *looking* for them, so I'm taking a break from DOWII atm.

I don't think any ones arguing that muiltplayer is working very well at the moment... i only play the last stand online at the moment. I've also not put as much time as you in to the campaign so while i've come across some bugs it's nots been anything major for me really. You are right in that the game is much much more buggy than it really should be but I was hoping they'd have a patch sorted out already:(

Weird thing is, the DOWII vanilla campaign was sweet. Never had a single issue and I played through it 4-5 times... It still runs perfectly now.
I would say Last Stand is certainly good fun, the Tyrannid and Chaos heroes are epic fun. I ended up in a 3 Chaos hero game and wave 16 had many, many MANY duplicates of everyone. Total mayhem. Loved it.
I ended up with 4 copied carnifaxs in the following round!
I do not hold my hope out for a bug fix though.
