GOG.com (http://gog.com) is a video game digital distribution site that prides itself on its growing catalog of DRM-free classic PC titles. It's been running under the radar for a while, and now it's ready to spread its wings a bit, moving to an open beta that you can sign up for (https://www.gog.com/en/login/register/), as well as signing on some new publishers. It already appears to have some decent content worthy of a spot in Turning the Spigot (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/blog.php?b=291), and the prices appear somewhat consistent with existing digital distribution services. Adam Oldakowski, the managing director of GOG.com, is so far very pleased with what the service has been able to provide.

"The success of the early access beta showed us that there is huge demand for DRM-free classic PC games, and it helped us to prepare the site for the public launch. We are endlessly grateful to the users for their support and assistance."

If I ever get some free time from this rush of new releases, I'll definitely try this out to finally play the Fallout games.

This could tempt me into buying Fallout 1 or 2.

You gotta love the advertising: 100% DRM Free. Just the way nature intended.

Signed up and took a peek at the games list. Very nice stuff in there, but I think I'll have to wait. I'm kinda in game overload at this time, too much all at once!

Just to let you guys know, a lot of these games come with some pretty good extras. Every Fallout game has it's soundtrack and hi-res artwork included with the purchase.

I've been in for awhile, it's a good site and the games install and run well

and as violent said, you get some fancy extras with each purchase, manual, avatars, soundtracks etc.

Go, buy many games, support these folks. We need them to succeed.

I bought Fallout 1 and 2 from them, and I especially like the fact that their executables work perfectly under Vista 64. But I also was able to get the high resolution tweaks to work with them as well. Great service, and NO DRM.

I bought Fallout and Shogo.

I proclaim GoG to be good. You may commence now.

I figure the chances are pretty good. We just got to support this thing.

They also include forums for each game, and links to the really good mods. Customer support is really fast and efficient as well, as I had an issue with cookies, so my beta key got all tapped out. One email, and a confirmation and they were able to reinstate the key.

I'm thinking of picking up Messiah for $5. Anyone have opinions on it?

I've been in the beta program for a while, but haven't had a chance to try it out yet.

But after discovering the forum for Citizen kabuto with links to high-res mods i might just have to buy it.

I'm thinking of picking up Messiah for $5. Anyone have opinions on it?It's a game with a great concept, but lackluster implementation. I had some fun with it, but I paid about $20 for it about three years ago. I would think it's well worth $5 now. But expect to only get about $5 worth of enjoyment out of it. No more; no less.

I still have my unused key lying about. I should use it.

It's probably worth $5, but you'll never play it a second time.

Man...even at only $5...that's exactly what I didn't want to hear. The mechanics sound very cool...but if it was as cool as it sounded, why have I not heard of it before now? I'll continue looking, I was contemplating either Citizen Kabuto or Sacrifice as well. I just know I have to buy something, and the major titles like Fallout...I already own. I want to support their vision though.

I may end up trying Messiah regardless because...it's only $5...I pay more than that for one meal at McDonalds. It could be below average and I couldn't be disappointed for $5.

I had sacrifice back in the day, very good game!
it was like a RTS mixed with squad combat, with a fantasy/horror twist

Wow, I forgot all about Messiah. Talk about a trip down memory lane. I know that the game was flawed, but I really enjoyed the demo back in the day.

I'm definitely going to check out this service.

I was in the closed beta and grabbed Giants: Citizen Kabuto and then got Stonekeep for free. I have yet to install them and try them, but buying was easy peasy.

You want to know something really scary? I'm not going to use GoG. Not because I think it's a bad service. No. It's because the games it has on its roster, I still own. In their original boxes and everything.

It's like when they released Red Alert for free the other week. I thought to myself, 'That's nice, shame I still own the original' whilst glancing over to the box. I think I need help.

Haha, my work blocks the website www.gog.com as an advertisement. I guess I'll need to remember to check this out at home...
