No Angry Young Man but still awesome. Joel = God-Tier. Get darkness on the edge of town for full album dlc and I'll never leave the house.

Billy Joel mother-of-all-Track-Packs coming to RB3 (http://kotaku.com/5669209/billy-joel-coming-to-rock-band-3-begrudgingly) in December:

Big Shot
Captain Jack
It's Still Rock N Roll to Me
Movin' Out
Only The Good Die Young
Piano Man
Pressure
Say Goodbye to Hollywood
The Entertainer
The Stranger

EDIT: Hmm, maybe it's more than one Track Pack, but it's still good news.

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES

I was raised on Billy Joel. I once went and grabbed all the singles I loved (not LIKED, LOVED), and I got 50 songs.

And, of course, Piano Man is one of the best songs there is.

Now we just need Scenes From an Italian Restaurant (with accompanying Saxophone peripheral), a vocal-only track of "For the Longest Time" and, of course, Root Beer Rag:

9D7CGsx_XCI

edit:
River of Dreams would also be good.
Allen Town
We Didn't Start the Fire
Two Thousand Years
Downeaster Alexa
New York State of Mind
Goodnight Saigon
Lullaby
My Life
And So It Goes

But not Uptown Girl that song sucks

According to this press release (http://www.billyjoel.com/news/billy-joel-catalog-be-reissued-commemorative-cdsdvds-be-released), it's a "Hits" pack of twelve songs in December (the ten announced plus two more), and a "Piano Challenge" six-pack in the spring.

So we've had The Doors, Bon Jovi and now...

The Bee Gees:

Jive Talkin’
Night Fever
Nights on Broadway
Stayin’ Alive
Tragedy
You Should Be Dancing

Warning: attempting to sing these songs in the proper octave may result in a pulled groin.

Why didn't anybody tell me that the Talking Heads song "Burning Down the House" was released last week!?

OH MY GOD.

As mentioned, it was part of the Gamestop code. When I saw the Harmonix announcement about more Talking Heads and New Order, I momentarily got all excited before I realized I already got those two songs from the pre-order.

(The New Order song, Blue Monday, is pretty long but also fun as hell to play.)

Along with the BeeGees stuff we're also getting The Thrill is Gone - B. B. King and Whiter Shade of Pale - Procol Harum. Stayin' Alive and Thrill is Gone will have pro guitar chart options. I'll be updating the op with some RB3 relative stuff soonish.

UGH I am rebuying all of my old DLC.

And I'm going to do it, too. I hate them so much.

As a side note, the weekly releases for RB3 so far have been beyond fantastic. I got everything but that Tuesday song from last weeks: OOH! And there's a good change that the Billy Joel track pack will be the week after. It will be amazing, because Billy Joel.

Also, we should start a new thread for RB3, this one is silly long.

I really wish there was a way to just update them...or get a discount if I already paid for it before. It's a (albeit minor) slap in the face to people who've been supporting them for years. It actually might stop me from giving them more money than less.

I don't get it. They aren't forcing you to buy anything. If it's not worth it to you to pay $2 to add keys and harmonies to an old song, don't. The Pro Guitar/Bass add-ons work on the old version, so there's no issue there. I can't think of a realistic better way they could have handled the upgrade path.

Also... more Queen!

Yeah it's shitty ya got to buy a second song to get KB/harmonies/pro modes. I think paying the difference to upgrade($1?) would be fair. Having to fork over $3 for a second version of a song I already have is bullshit.

I was the sucker who bought the Creedence track pack for 1600pts about a week before the Black Friday sale (400pts).

Billy Joel, however, will be mine.

I've made and shared a few (XBL: misere), I'm sure once my vacation starts next week I'll make some more.

One question: is there a way to reorder songs in a set list? I don't like having to add them in the order they they'll be played, I'd rather go through the list and choose the songs and then figure out the best order.

It actually looks like I might be able to edit them on the community website...except for the fact that it's not showing any of the playlists I've created. At least it finally caught up and is showing all my song progress and goals, though, so maybe the playlist part will start working soon.

You there! Rock Band experts! I need your help...

A friend of mine just got RB3 and wants to figure out the cheapest way to get more music. He already owns RB2 because I forced it on him last Christmas, so he understands how to get the songs from that one. As for all the other versions of Rock Band and the Track Pack disc releases, do you guys have any suggestions? Is he best just downloading each song he wants instead of renting/buying Track Packs and band-specific discs?

I figured it would be spelled out in plain English on CAG, but their Rock Band thread is over 5k posts, so I came home to ask my fellow coggers.....and then see this thread is over 1.5k posts. There's no way I can read everything, so I apologize because I'm sure this has come up before. If you could kindly hyperlink me and I'll be on my way...

:D

In any case, this page (http://www.rockband.com/support/export-rock-band) has been immensely useful in understanding all the different methods just for GETTING the old music. Now it's simply a matter of determining the cheapest approach.

The track packs are definitely the cheapest IF you don't mind not having any choice in what you get. I divide the price by how many of the tracks I actually want. If it's more than $2, I just buy them individually by downloading. Also taking in old games to trade in to Gamestop for points cards is a way to drive down the price.

I would say that getting the Track Packs via disc is your cheapest option. Do it through Amazon, though, as you can find them for cheaper than $15.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B002M2N9OI/ref=sr_1_1_olp?ie=UTF8&qid=1297363445&sr=8-1&condition=new

And of course, always buy new since the code won't work if it was used once before.

As far as buying songs through the RBStore, Best Buy has MSP Cards for sale almost once a month. Or you could be a good friend and get him 1600 points yourself.

divinechaos

Oh, shit, I also just remembered a way to... trick the system, it worked for me and it's how I got the Lego, Green Day and AC/DC tracks without buying the disc.

Go into whatever Gamestop you find and make your way to the NEW games section. Find any RB game, open the box up and if you're lucky, the employees left the redeemable code intact. Take a picture of it, or you could just take it. Then rent whatever game it was you got the code for, enter the code, pay the fee and you'll be ready to go.

I know that it's WAY easier to just buy the new game but if you don't want to pay $30+ for a Green Day disc that you'll never need after you export the tracks then maybe it's worth the extra work. And no, it technically isn't illegal to take the code from an open box game because whoever buys the game will get a sealed box from the counter. Now, if you pick up a code and it was already used, then I'm sorry but I've done this 3 TIMES and all the codes worked.

Suave Peanut

It MIGHT get sold as a used game, which would mean the person doesn't EXPECT the code, but they'll likely still try it and find it doesn't work. Meaning you stole it from them, they just don't know.

And no, it technically isn't illegal to take the code from an open box game because whoever buys the game will get a sealed box from the counter. Now, if you pick up a code and it was already used, then I'm sorry but I've done this 3 TIMES and all the codes worked.

Fucking pathetic.

divinechaos, what you are describing is theft. If caught, you'll be lucky to just be banned from the store. Unlucky will end with the police involved.

Valentine's Day tracks now available:

Animotion – “Obsession”

Damn, just to throw this out there: I had friends that worked at GS and they all said that those boxes are there just for show and they always get a sealed box if it's a new copy. Also, if the code is in those display boxes is just because the employee forgot to throw them away or use it themselves. Those boxes shouldn't be "sold" to people. If they only had one copy of the game left then it wouldn't be new, meaning the code wouldn't even be there in the first place. I paid for rental of the game and I paid the fee for the download, I don't know how that's theft.

I guess I can see where most of you are coming from, but knowing what I know from GS then that is their own fault if they DO sell a "used" item as new. If somebody bought the code and it didn't work then most likely they went to that Gamestop and got a different copy, in which they would've asked why, when they bought a new copy that should've been sealed, they got something that was opened.

Anyway, Rock Band kicks ass.

Ha, so get this: A lady friend of mine and myself did Don't You Want Me at karaoke on Wednesday night. Thursday, I'm on my way to the store and it comes on the radio and I go to text her something silly like "Hey, our song is on the radio!" but get sidetracked and forget to. A few minutes later she texts me and says "Hey, I just heard our song in this store I'm at!". And now it comes out on Rock Band. I just find it amusing 8-P.

I grabbed a Pro Guitar today... it's pretty cool, and plays really well. The tutorials are a big help. The only really clumsy thing is the lack of overdrive on the guitar (on 360, you have to tap a big button on the midi adapter). Otherwise it's surprisingly intuitive so far.

The hardest thing to adjust to is having to strum the correct string. :)

It's hilarious to 3-star a song on easy and feel like YOU ROCK!

MachEnergy
05-06-2011, 07:02 AM
Mustang or Squier? I can tell you with certainty that you can engage overdrive by raising tilting the Squire....at least when the midi adapter is mounted to the guitar. I can't say I've tried it with the adapter not attached.

DLC Week of 5/23 - Lady Gaga 3 Pack, Foreigner singles & 2 legacy Pro Guitar upgrades

Hey gang,

Here's a nice batch of songs for all you hot blooded little monsters out there. The Gaga tracks should come as no surprise, as they were first announced in this classic Game Informer article a few weeks ago but the Foreigner tracks offer a nice side of singles for those of you looking for more straight ahead rock than angular pop. Whatever the geometry, it looks like good stuff to me. Enjoy!

• Lady Gaga – “Born This Way”
• Lady Gaga – “LoveGame”
• Lady Gaga – “Paparazzi”
• Foreigner – “Hot Blooded” X
• Foreigner – “Urgent” X

Pro Guitar Additions for Legacy Songs:

There were a couple of Heart songs in Guitar Hero, which may signify some sort of exclusivity... I hope that's not the case. They had Barracuda and Crazy On You, I believe.

My dream Heart pack would probably be Straight On, Crazy on You, Alone, Magic Man and What About Love.

That would be nice. Guitar Hero had Crazy on You and Barracuda and American Idol Karaoke had Alone on it. Now if they can just make a pack with all of those for Rock Band that would be perfect. They have been adding a lot of songs that were perviously on the American Idol Karaoke to Rock Band 3 like Sister Christian, Power of Love and I think maybe Free bird so who knows!

Awesome, is Rain Dance Maggie a new song? 'Cause it sounds good.

Also, I would like to add that there's a new Freezepop song available on the RBN and an old Alien Ant Farm song called Courage.

Cheap Trick kick off the week with a 3-pack of their biggest hits. Since Cheap Trick are one of the world’s greatest live rock acts, it’s only fitting that we have iconic live performances of two tracks – “I Want You to Want Me” and “Surrender”. We head back to the original studio recordings for “Dream Police”, which rounds out this outstanding 3-pack.

In addition, Rock Band fans should rejoice with a collective “Oh!” at the appearance of EMF’s 1990 chart-topping hit, “Unbelievable”. This re-record of everyone’s favorite party jam is sure to get your whole band up on their feet.

As always, songs available as downloadable content for Rock Band 3 feature five-button guitar and bass parts, drums, Pro Drums, and keys, Pro Keys and harmonies, where applicable. Some songs also feature Pro Guitar and Pro Bass upgrades available for an additional $0.99 upgrade download.

Available on Xbox 360, Wii andPlayStation®3 system (September 6th, 2011):
• Cheap Trick – “I Want You to Want Me (Live)”

No discussion of Rock Band Blitz yet? If it plays like Frequency/Amplitude and uses the entire Rock Band library, it's going to be a hell of a game.

Joystiq also reports that the 25 built-in songs will be new and will be playable in Rock Band 3. I really like the way Harmonix does things- that's a nice bonus.

Dat video: http://www.g4tv.com/videos/58009/harmonix-announces-rock-band-blitz/

At 01:42 the "paddle" launches a ball, which the player then has to change lanes to keep it alive, ala brick breaking gameplay. All they had to do was make Amplitude alone work with my existing Rock Band Library and I would have been stoked. I can't wait to see what other upgrades to the gameplay model there are.

My only concern is that it appears like each instrument lane only has a set of left notes and right notes, no middle notes. I'd hate to see the 3 button system go away, as it was perfectly suited for challenge and skill. There are moments where it looks like a middle column appears on some tracks, but I haven't seen any notes appear with it. Perhaps this is an Easy mode being shown? Can anybody with experience with Unplugged weigh in on how this system appears to compare?

I see it as only good. Downloadable seems like a great way to handle Rock Band titles, with the new songs going immediately to your hard drive and eliminating and need for an export license.

Apparently there are no middle notes - The Verge (http://www.theverge.com/gaming/2012/4/4/2924768/rock-band-blitz-xbla-psn) has an article up with quotes on why they decided on that.

That's the intention. I've amassed several thousand games on at least 20 different platforms over the 10 years I've been working for a video game retailer, of which I've only beaten a fraction. At some point I've just got to cut myself off and work on those.

You can redownload onto any 360 you wish as long as your account is signed in. Also, you can transfer licenses once a year to a new system, so your DLC would work even if you weren't signed in.....but this doesn't help you if you won't replace your 360.

Why complain about DLC if you can't play discs either? Quit picking on DLC! ;)
