You betcha this is another university project that is going to hell and back and is in tomorrow morning which means no sleep for me! i'm doing wired stuff with after effects and flash after my main idea just didn't really come together as i wanted it to... So why the voice acting? well i need a voice over and while i could do it my self my recoding stuff isn't very good and i'm not good at voices so i'm looking for some help.

It's only short, the whole thing has to be less than 60 seconds, so the voice over should only be 40-50 seconds based on what i've written. I need an old wise wizard voice type thingy or a fantasy film trailer voice over, i'm honestly not too picky... and by late tonight i'll no doubt make a fool of my self trying to do it if i can't find some one.

The project is about books and reading and types of book... this bit of the course is about using 'common' symbolism to get over ideas... in this case we are asked to make something that challenges the idea of the ereader by using a character based on a type of book... most of what people have been doing is much about the 2nd bit of that rather than the first but anyway my idea was trying to link something in the type of book with best of the physical books... and the thing that sprang to mind was the idea of books being like spell books which is nice and links with the idea of physical books rather than just text.

Any way here's the "script"

Legend tells of an ancient book of sorcery and magic so powerful those who read it can transport them selves to other places, other times even other worlds! For a thousand years it has remained locked away deep with in a crypt guarded by the Grate Dragon El’ranteranla. Many brave heroes have fallen to her fiery breath but on this day comes the one destined to defeat her. A grate and mighty wizard of the battle order Oriny, master of the western marches, lord of the 7 towers, guardian of the last gate and keeper of world key! His name will live on for ever, he is the Grand High Lord Wizard Derrick! Using the grate power of the legendary talisman known only as The Library Card he banish El’ranternla and unlocks those ancient gates to claim his prize

The idea is most of it is all very serious and such untill the Derrick name turns up at which point all that fades away leaving us with a little boy dressed up as a wizard and the dragon being the librarian... all about the kids imagination being unlocked by the book he is trying to get and so on... i think it's easier to keep the voice over fully serious and the name of the dragon and things can be anything so long as there fantasy like

Well, there's a long post no one is going to read... i'll post a link here when what ever it ends up being is "done" heh

If your interested just PM me and we shall sort something out... this isn't i'm afraid a job with cash but you get the joy of helping a fellow cog in his hour of need... or some such rubbish that still isn't useful money!

If I were anywhere near worth a shit, I would. Sorry pal. (But hey, at least I read it all!)

I would be a perfect voice for this, but I don't have access to a mic here at work. :(

I kept messing up "El’ranteranla" though, and I cracked up when I read "The Library Card" aloud for the 1st time.

I really enjoyed this little piece to start off my day btw.

There are several radio personalities on here that might be able to help you. Psykoboy2 and pseudopseudo are just two of them, although I don't know how up they'd be to doing this, but you could PM them.

I'll make a post here when it's either to late or i've found some one. This needs to be done by 9am tomorrow and it's only 3pm now and its likely i won't be getting much sleep in-between so i may still be looking when you're free. edit: forgot to say that the dragons name is just random i'm surprised you could say it at all... you can just make up a easier drangoy name :)

Glad that you got a kick out of it and thanks to every one else who has read it. I have so far managed to build and light the first scene kinda... up to "locked away" kind ya... i should move on but there's lots here i think i need to get a handle on before i jump forward. Still need to create a big fiery dragon flying around (that's going to be a pain in the ass) animate the grate wizard walking out of the dark (with glowy eyes and other effects) a short fight on the bridge before a fade in to the other drawings of the kid but there going to be much more straight up done in flash with no fancy effects or 3d work... I have no idea why i'm making it so complex for my self but i get rather griped by after effects at the moment and this is letting me play with fun things... it will in fact be very much a failed experiment i think, but a fun one none the less.

I can give you a read, but where does it need to be on timing? Do certain words need to be spoken at a certain time?

Can you accept the audio as is and edit as you need or is that something I have to do?

Oh, and is it too late yet?

Hotcod

I'll be animating to the timing of the audio at this point (i've always found it easer to animate that way) only thing is that it shouldn't really be more than 40-50 seconds or so based on my speaking of it... you can push 55 but i need at lest 5 seconds for titles and such... that's about it. really.

If the audio is reasonable quality and some what compressed (mp3 would be best, just saves time) i'd be very happy... i should be able to deal with any other editing...

Any of you can just drop stuff by hotcod32@hotmail.com and i will love you forever and ever :)

if you can record the line and send them i'll take anything frankly...

Just got in my first set of takes by some one... went waaaaaaaay over the time limit with it but it's honestly not that bad... i don't know if going over was my fault beacuse i just speak to fast in my old man voice but she did pause a heck of a lot and take forever to say the words. Worst comes to worse i can edit it down in places to fit.

Not that it matter just yet, i still have so much freaking work to do :(

Got... that's amamzing thanks man! just what i was looking for in terms of that film trailer type voice... with a bit of editing it should work really well with music and maybe some sound effects if i have the time. Shall be very very helpful. If any one else still wants to take a go feel free, you can't be any worse than i would be :D

Right, now, to make a dragon that is like a hole in space to a fiery hell... i wish i was kidding but it's probably better than me trying to draw one

No problem, man. Hope everything works out okay for you.

As many have said before, say now, and will continue to say for a very long time.

You. Are. Awesome.

Well, it helps when your day job is working in a production studio at a radio station.

If I had seen this earlier, I totally would've helped you out - but at least Scott got to it.

Though, I don't know if I would've been able to make that sound the way you wanted. I think Scott has the better voice (deeper, not as young-sounding) between he and I.

Thanks :) i know where to come in future now heh... but yes, well, i have about 25 seconds of the 60 done... so that's over a third with some tweeking need doing... but the next 2 thirds are more fully animated but i think less complex in aftereffect, in fact the flash 1/3 i will probably do in flash and stick it in.

It's all rubbish to the hightest degree but it hopefully it will be finished rubbish

thought it was about time i got a vimeo account for video stuff, i have some server space but it's hosted by a friend and i don't like linking to large files there... no idea if this will upload right or not but it's the first 20 seconds... timings out, lightings not how i wanted it really and its just over all a bit messy... i'll tidy up the lighting a bit a think but frankly everything else is 'good enough'... if i feel i need to i can work on it until the Christmas deadline (ya for course which only mark you at the end of the term and let you redo anything at the end of the year) but yes every one give a big hand to Psykoboy2 for his staring roll!

edit: it is working! quality is awful since its only really a test render... if i get it all done i'll upload a full HD thingy when i have the time... oh and the doors i will get around to having them be open and shutting and you pull out so to speak :D

I wish I had been around earlier today to offer my help, I've done voice acting for other projects a few times, and I've been told I'm pretty good at it. Plus, I think it's fun!

If another project comes up and you reference this thread looking for more actors, add my name to the list. I have my own pretty decent home recording setup, as well.

I believe you agreed to work for public radio scale, a pat on the head and a firm handshake.

Looking forward to seeing (and hearing) the completed project. :)

little update

i'm really rather fond of his walk given it's all tween work... it looks rather bad ass when his hand fills up with a ball of light in after effects too
