I was enjoying watching the wickerman burn for Hallow's End when a rather ill looking tauren joined the party. He kept counting down the minutes, taunting us, and eventually I noticed a debuff he had that was set to expire shortly. When it did, he turned into a zombie and exploded on everyone nearby, infecting all of us! So after a bit of sharing the infection in Orgrimmar, we hauled it off to Westfall and spent the evening raiding the towns as zombies.
Best world event ever? Who else has taken part and are you siding with the zombies or those annoying npcs that keep curing me? :p

I'm no WoW fan, but that actually sounds like alot of fun. Did the zombified players look any differently? I'd imagine a zombie trolls to look pretty damned rediculous.

All the zombies look the same (though nothing like their original selves), and I'm pretty sure that ally zombies and horde zombies can speak to each other. Zombies have their own language that other players can't understand. Also, priests, paladins and shamans can cure infected players that haven't turned yet. There are quite a few stories up on wowinsider.com for anyone that's interested.

Blizzard always does good stuff for the holidays, and this sounds like no exception. I'll have to check out some of the stories on what's going on.

I'm pretty sure this is actually the lead up to the expansion pack rather than a holiday event but I could be wrong. Not that it matters.

This is actually a world event leading up to the litch king expansion. Right now containing the zombies is'nt that bad, but blizzard has hinted that things are only going to get worse ;)

i remember the first time this happened for real with the thing from AQ being kept on a pet (if that was the first time there may have been another, i have a feeling there might have been) where death stalked the cites... much like at the end of the beta, which was one of the most awesome things everz

It sounds like they took inspiration from that contagious debuff disaster from ages past and turned it into an official game mechanic with lots more polish.

I remember way back playing UO, one Halloween red portals opened up in all of the towns. If you walked through it, you came back out the other side as a random monster type. In about 3 minutes all of the towns were full of liches, poison elementals, and all other kinds of ugly shit. It was a bloodbath of epic proportions as people who had no clue what was happening were running and screaming like children. It was great.
They did similar for Thanksgiving, but more humorous. Portals that either turned you into a pilgrim, or a turkey. It was a sight to behold as mobs of turkeys would descend on people, tearing them to bits, and all the non turkeys saw was "Gobble gobble gobble gobble!" Then they were devoured by the mass of turkeys. The pilgrims had weapons, but we turkeys had sheer numbers. I almost pissed myself it was just that funny.

It really is a lot of fun. When I get home tonight I'm going to see if anyone has made a zombie chat channel and look for a group. =3 I'll never get to 70 at this rate...
My guild was just getting ready to go to Headless Horseman and a whole train of zombies came running into Scarlet Monastery and blew up....so we skipped Horseman and joined them.

Best world event ever. A few tidbits of info for aspiring brainivores:
60 hits from zombies will turn anyone (each hit removes 10 seconds from the 10 minute timer).
If you die with the disease, you become a zombie (drown, etc.).
Anything that would grant you immunity from the disease (paladin bubble, ice block, etc.) will also immediately change you.
Red Ridge zombie raids are so fun.

So, now the incubation time for the infection has been lowered to five minutes. =3 Zombies fresh from the oven in half the time!
Last night, someone managed to infect all the battlemasters in Org. Sadly, a pally came by and healed them all before I could see the level 81 elite become a zombie.

I wish they stayed elite but unfortunately they just become squishy like all the other zombies. Makes me sad.

Ohh, I didnt know zombies had a snare now! Also, the new kara boss is dropping the Arcanite Ripper, which you can right click to turn into a guitar playing skeleton. =3 He's also dropping a vampiric batling small pet, one for everone in the raid. I want one soo badly. Time to powerlevel to 70.

I got infected yesterday in Theramore Harbor and turned. I slowly walked from there to the Horde outpost at Freewind in the 1000 needles. I proceded to infect most of the outpost before I was brought down. I stayed watching my body for a while and i saw Hordie after Hordie fly in to see what was up and prompt get mobbed by my legion of undead brethren. It was great.

Fun thing to do as a zombie:
1) Get infected!
2) Go to the Greengill Coast on the Isle of Quel'Danas
2) Infect the little groups of murloc slaves.
They will all turn into zombies, who will then attack the naga that wander too close. The murlocs respawn really quickly, so the zombies have lots of new targets to kill. Other players might try to stop you, but they will get hit so many times by the zombies (even though they are only level 60) that they will get turned into a zombie as well. It is AWESOME. I spent some time doing this earlier today, and when I logged back in an hour later, there were still zombies all over the coast. Fun times for all!

This is what happens when your infection timer runs up when you're flying somewhere! I was happy that I didn't just fall like a rock out of the sky, which I kind of expected.

A quest has also appeared near the aldor elevator, for the horde it's a master apothecary and alliance it's a bishop. We're finally getting around to fighting back against the plague.
