Late last year Capcom announced that Lost Planet 2 would be getting a Gamestop-exclusive pre-order bonus: a multiplayer skin of Resident Evil's Albert Wesker, and the Magnum Revolver weapon. This announcement was apparently met with such outpourings of love from the fans that the publisher has decided to make those items available to all gamers at purchase. In their place as Gamestop incentives? A pair of multiplayer maps: the underwater base Helix and the wide open Back to the Island (seen above).
Capcom has also announced that game will support splitscreen multiplayer. This feature is not linked to any particular retailer.
Lost Planet 2 will be released on May 18 for the 360 and PS3.

Screw that, change it back! I'm going to rent the game and would much rather have the maps.

Multiplayer maps attached to a preorder is just a terrible idea. Sure, they'll probably be made available as DLC later on, but it splinters the community right off the bat.

That was my first thought too.
I'm sure Capcom thought of that too, and that's the real reason they swapped the pre-order bonus. I can live without a skin, but the maps are a much more enticing bonus.

Curious, are you guys exited for this? The first game wasn't exactly a good game and surely the sequel will be better, but all that's out right now... who's running out and buying this?

I have no problem with a developer/publisher giving incentives to those that purchase a game but what I do have a serious problem with is forcing people to buy your game at a specific retailer to get those incentives.

I don't know what you played but the Lost Planet I played on the 360 was most definitely a good game.

It was a decent game with a lot of potential but it was pretty damn broken in places. It's one of the few games that I've gotten pretty far in over the past few years and just given up on.

I am excited for this game, still. The demo just sealed it, 4 player co-op and a ridiculously over sized boss. It was a lot of fun. Definitely picking this up

LP was a good game, great graphics, but I'm not excited for the sequel for some reason.
I wound up playing the game across a span of a year or more, because I ended up setting it aside. Then I started to really get into it the last time I picked it up and enjoyed it more, and wound up beating it.
Still don't know why, if I enjoyed the first, I'm not excited for a sequel. Ah well.

You and I have a completely different definition of "good game"

Well how about a why for your not liking it. I thought it was a good game...not a great game, but definitely worth playing through.

Yes, fracture your MP community right out of the gate. That will work out well for you, I'm sure.

I would say it's mediocre at best and definitely NOT worth playing. It was boring. Some of the worst cut scenes/characters/dialog I've seen, even for a Capcom game, terrible level design without no motivation to even kill anything. The only positive thing I can think about were the epic boss battles, but those weren't even fun half the time.

Some day I'll give the original game another chance. I just couldn't get past the constant knockdowns during fights that required I keep moving. Or at least that's my rememberance of it. I'll rent LP2 to experience it and see if Capcom can win me back...but honestly, Capcom repeatedly makes me want to beat my head against a wall for their control choices (see Dead Rising, RE5, etc.). It's like they hate me, personally, as a gamer. :)
I find their game pretty to look at, but horrid to control.

I got the first limited edition version cause it came with an extra map but no one was playing it so I could never get a match going. Lesson learned. This is really stupid to do this.
The first one was ok, but like many Japanese games they over did it with the acting and cutscenes. I skipped them all and played just the game and had a blast. Also, I was super addicted to the multiplayer for a while. I'm still on the fence about picking this one up or not.

Didn't they announce that this game had a ton of content cut because they didn't want to pay for another disc? So they offer some barely useful pre-order incentives instead?
That seems like putting a band-aid on a gunshot wound. Maybe I'm just missing something.

This was really really funny.
