Do you have a comic arc you want to hear about? Let us know here in this thread and we'll try to accommodate you. Just so you know:
Episode 3: Lex Luthor: Man of Steel. (Brian Azzarello)
Episode 4: Invincible (Robert Kirkman)
Episode 5: Human Target (Peter Milligan)

I'd love to see some Sandman, Strangers in Paradise or Y on there, but that's just me.

I've read most of Y, I have to say I really liked it, but I felt like it dropped off towards the end. The other two I've never read.

I will agree that Y has a lull about 3/4 the way through but I thought it finished decently enough.
I though Y got itself way too far up its own ass after awhile. There were two "comic within a comic" storylines! Well one was a comic, one was a play. Still. I thought it became a bit too symbolic and predictable because of it. And I was so excited when I read the first few books. It's one rare example of a story that could be made better with the streamlining they'd need to do to film it.

Personally, as far as Brian K Vaugn goes, I like Ex Machina a LOT more.

Yeah, Y did have a bit of a tough bit at the end, but after re-reading the first trade the other day, i thought the ending was perfect. That being said, i ended up reading the whole series in the span of a week.

I'd love to see some Sandman.
Would you suggest a particular story arc? I've got the first two Absolute editions, so through to the 4th individual trade. But I've only read the first book because it's MASSIVELY HUGE and heavy. But what I read was really good.

I'm a mutant: I hate Sandman, find it to be pretentious wankery.
I suggest:
Transmetropolitan
Planetary
Preacher
Bone

The Doll's House (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Doll's_House) is easily my favorite due to the high quality of the writing. Next would be The Kindly Ones (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sandman:_The_Kindly_Ones) followed by The Wake (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sandman:_The_Wake).
The Wake has the distinction of being my favorite ending to a series ever.

Yeah. This guy. =]
Also, been itching to read Marshall Law again, some angry Mills and O'Neil stuff, I loved the first series so much. Still want to leave Mage in consideration too in between some of the more traditional type books. But this question wasn't really directed at me anyway, i'll be quiet again.

I was gonna write in Mage also, but in IRC Ghostbear mentioned it was already on the agenda.

I very rarely get into the IRC, but I brought it up during earlier discussions. I'm mostly putting it out there to see if i'm alone in this. =]

You know what? all these suggestions are great, but they are also pretty standard. I'll give you something fresh: The life and times of savior 28 (http://www.amazon.com/Life-Times-Savior-28-DeMatteis/dp/1600105769/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1267096402&sr=8-1) by J.M. Demattias. Applies watchmen-like deconstruction to Captain America. It was one of my favorite and least favorite books last year, for various reason.
Also, one of the greatest comics of all time Local (http://www.amazon.com/Local-Brian-Wood/dp/193496400X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1267096614&sr=1-1). Currently not in print it seems!
How about The Boys? Just got into it and really enjoying it.

If it had the second volume under way, I would pretty much force this book on the show: The Stuff of Legend (linky! (http://www.th3rdworld.com/book/The-Stuff-of-Legend)). Simply amazing book that deserves all the attention that it gets, IMHO. Only 2 issues out though, so maybe a bit brief to carry a show on its own?

I have another; Mesmo Delivery by Rafael Grampa (http://www.amazon.com/Mesmo-Delivery-Pixu-Mark/dp/1595824650/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1267550858&sr=8-1), check out my thread (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/showthread.php?p=499235#post499235)about it.
For a something a little...traditional, the first trade of Unwritten (http://www.amazon.com/Unwritten-Vol-Tommy-Taylor-Identity/dp/1401225659/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1267551317&sr=8-1), by Mike Carey and Peter Gross, the team behind Lucifer, from Vertigo. Its brilliant and my favorite ongoing right now! Brilliant writing and beautiful art!

Useless.

Forget everything else; Chew. In a future where all poultry has been banned for fear of avian flu, Tony Chu is an Cibopathic FDA agent. What is a cibopath? He can see the whole history of anything he tastes. Except Beets.

I will agree that Y has a lull about 3/4 the way through but I thought it finished decently enough.
I also would be interested in hearing a Y the Last Man. Or 100 Bullets. I have about half of Y. I was really into it for awhile, but it kinda fell of my list. I don't read many comics anymore, the last ones that I've picked up were Y and 100 Bullets. I just need to get the rest of the trades of Y to finish it off.
Ghostbear
05-27-2010, 02:39 PM
We've talked about both Y and 100 Bullets, but we just recorded a Brian K Vaugn and have covered Azzarello as well. We're trying (at least for the first 20 eps or so) to keep things spread out. I already put a moratorium on Warren Ellis, since we've covered his stuff twice, heh.

Mutant X would be a good series to discuss. Alex Summers in a reversed dimension... good stuff. :)

I'd enjoy seeing some more Marvel comics here. Maybe like the Protocide Arc in Captain America. I enjoy that one cause I like seeing US Agent get the shit beat out of him. Or maybe some of the "What If..." comics? Maybe?

I had to miss out recording the Chew episode (which I'm a bit upset over, I was looking forward to that one), and I can't wait either!
Shodan: As for Marvel stuff, we were actually discussing some possible Spider-Man Noir to coincide with the new video game coming out. We do listen to your suggestions, keep them coming!

For my own edification I have been reading a TON of Marvel essentials. Loving Tomb of Dracula and the old Wolverine stuff.

I like Late-mid 90's Captain America and Avengers stuff. X-men and Spider-Man were pretty good then too... especially the X-Men relaunch with Jim Lee. I love his art.
Dr. Strange was pretty good around then too... or Deadpool. :)

Well, most of my comic book knowledge goes from the late 80's to mid '90s. It's when I was interested. It's mostly Marvel too. :)

Had an idea for a show: Alan Moore's Top 10. It's a procedural crime drama in a city where everyone has superpowers.
