I created a tutorial today, including savegame, covering the very basics of survival in DF for the starting player.

It is in .pdf and has hyperlinks to the proper version of DF with pre-installed graphics set and to the savegame needed for the tutorial.

Should be pretty straight forward and it should run fine on any PC that can load DF in the first place.

After completing this tutorial you'll be able to do basic building, digging, and food/drink production, just enough to protect your dwarves and keep them fed.

Nicely done, I wish I'd had this the first time I played.

Yes, it's a hell of a lot better than the wiki's tutorial.

explaining what DF is in the title would be helpful

also if you have some time and prefer, by far the best video tutorial i have come across is by captnduck on youtube, he is entertaining and does a very through job of explaining everything

edit: it is also a video series so there are several episodes from 8 to 10 mins long

Well, I made this specifically for people in COG IRC who already know what DF is but have some issues getting over the initial learning curve(and by curve I mean cliff).

Anyways, after feedback from the COG IRC folks I've made a bunch of revisions and added a preface talking about how I created the savegame for the tutorial. Fixed lots of typos and a missing image.

That's cool. I'm sure they would appreciate your help. Kudos.

I'm not an IRC kinda guy, or even much of a forum browsing kind of guy. I just look at interesting titles in the front page side bar, and it gets frustrating to see how often acronyms are used without clarification. Don't even get me started on "GoW". ;)

Its Dwarf Fortress. I'll be checking this out when I get home.
