I knew that greenscreen was being used more in TV and film, but I had no idea how pervasive it had actually become! Amazing stuff!

I saw this a couple months ago, it's pretty crazy how much it's used, and how well. It's pretty much a necessary evil to help keep costs down. Location shoots can get very expensive.

I clicked on that thinking "Amazing? Yeah, I'll believe it when I see it." But, wow! :)

So disillusioned... Plus I'm surprised how big the sfx budget on something like Ugly Betty must be.

Wow. Simply wow.

Wow, that Ugly Betty scene really blew me away.

Pretty soon we won't be able to believe anything we see. Maybe even now.

The really good ones you don't notice, but shows like Bones (which I do love, btw) you can tell, and it's painfully obvious :p

Ugly Betty uses green screens in pretty much every scene. I watched a making of feature on the show and it blew me away. Now when I watch the show I'm often wondering how much of it is real.

How shit.
Even after watching it twice I was stunned at some of those.

Wow, thanks for posting that. Pretty amazing.

Hahaha. I showed my wife this.
Her comment. "That was dumb."
I asked her why.
Wife-"Because without the greenscreen the normal areas actually looked fine and in some cases better. It was like someone was bored."

And after watching it again I had to chuckle. I am sure they had their reasons but she was right on. In a couple of those your like...the fuck? Why did they do that hahahahaa.

eh...they do that because it costs gigantic amount of money to shoot on location than on a backlot.

I wasn't really that amazed. The reason certain shows look better on the same locations is because its not the same location.

I saw a rather jarringly bad chromakey example last night. It was on the latest episode of Leverage toward the end. Every time they cut to a wide shot of the gang standing on the deck of a cargo ship the actors stuck out like sore thumbs.

Which would make sense but some of them were on location and not on backlots. Thus the laughing.

Different video then.

No, almost all of those shots are from backlots, and others are on a set. Closing down whole streets and then putting green screen on them is completely pointless.

What's amazing is that CoG is nothing more than a green screen and all of us with the exception of you is computer generated. As a matter of fact look really closely at your computer monitor. Yep...it's fake too. Just a prop. You're actually just staring at the back of your eyelids which has a green screen implanted when you're born. Welcome to the Matrix.

Goddammit I took the blue pill!

Edit: or was it purple??

The main reason why I've never been able to watch 300 all the way through is because of the green screen. It's just so damn bad, and so damn obvious, it puts me off. The whole movie came across looking like a higher res version of all those bad live-action cutscenes from video games in the 90s, like the Daedalus Encounter or Wing Commander IV.

Much like Sin City, what you consider "damn bad" I consider a purposeful aesthetic. That said, I completely understand why you don't like it. But it worked for me.

See, Sin City didn't bother me in the slightest, nor even, did the Spirit, because it very much was obviously an aesthetic.

The only aesthetic choice that makes sense to me for 300 is that they were just deliberately trying to make it look as fake as possible.

OMG so I am late to the thread but wow that is amazing. Is anything real? Even the episodes of Monk were shot indoors! That's nuts.

They were trying to make it look like the comic. And they succeeded. Too bad the comic sucked nards.
