View Full Version : [SPOILERS] Best Fictional Deaths

I've been invited to a costume party where the theme is "Dead Fictional Characters". So I have to dress up as a character who died in the canon storyline of any kind of fiction, from movies to books to video games. It's a geeky crowd, so I can get pretty obscure and still be recognized.

I thought this would make a good thread not just as brainstorming for my costume, but also as a general discussion thread for some of the coolest, most emotional, most stirring deaths in fiction.

For reference, I'm tall and slender with short, dark brown hair and glasses, if anyone wants to specifically suggest a costume. Bonus points for a male/female pairing from the same fiction.

One of the first that springs to mind is Boromir from LotR. It didn't hit me that much in the books, but the movie death was so powerful, thanks in large part to Sean Bean's acting bringing such pathos to the character.

Tyrell from Blade Runner. Huge glasses. Massive thick dressing gown. Er, poked out eyes. Perfect! :)

This sounds like a thread ripe for major spoilage.

Wesley from Angel - leather jacket, glasses, throat scar, big book
with this one you could also do a Fred/Illyria

Wash in Serenity - Aloha shirt, dinosaur toys, impalement

Dack, stunned and knocked out by shitty second-rate highly explodable rebel harpoon-gun electronics...then squished an AT-AT foot.

Good point. Though I think anyone that comes into a thread marked "Best Fictional Deaths" should expect a lot of spoilery discussion. If a mod could add [SPOILERS] to the title that'd be great. Unless I can do it myself.

My girlfriend just suggested she could be Elle from Kill Bill. I could probably put together an amusing Budd costume, complete with rubber snake.

How about Arnold Earnst Toht (http://indianajones.wikia.com/wiki/Arnold_Ernst_Toht)? He died in a very epic fashion. Not many people get their face melted by God.

Not stirring, by any means, but:

John Hurt from Alien?

Thanks, Daze.

I loved Boris from Goldeneye. Definitely a possiblity. It'll be hard to pull off a "post-death" costume, though. That's not a requirement, but I'd like to do that.

I'd one-up that by saying Roy Batty's death was the best in the film.

If it didn't mean walking around the city in shorts in the middle of winter I'd consider this guy:

The Headless Horseman. I've always thought that'd be a cool costume if you pulled it off.

Eddard Stark

I came in here to say this. Well, any of the huge Martin deaths. Book three killed 3 people that floored me. But when Eddard went...damn. I think that cemented my attention to Martin's series right there. Talk about building up a character and ending him so soon. I still get shivers thinking about it.

Having died several times myself (and gotten better) I have to say that Spock had a very dignified and fulfilling death.

It's a shame he got better. Really cheapened things. At least I have the dignity to put on a new face when I do it.

He did fail to kill his target with it though, so not as epic a win as it could have been.

"Nietzsche is dead" - God

Grigori Rasputin had an epic (and likely somewhat fictional) death. Poisoned with cyanide, shot in the back and forehead, stabbed, beaten, and then thrown into a river, supposedly drowning while clawing up through the ice. Body burned after recovery. Besides his recognizable hair and beard, his death is ripe for costume decisions ;)

As for pure fiction, I haven't seen enough Zorg (Fifth Element) cosplay. If you're tall and skinny, can shave (or use a bald cap), it would be a standout with blood dripping from the plastic head dome and burned and tattered clothes to signify the explosion on the Fhloston Paradise cruise liner.

I've thought about doing a Zorg costume sometime, but it would take much more preparation.

You can go as the Samurai/Buddy from Six String Samurai.

Macbeth and Lady Macbeth.

Cuthbert Allgood and Susan Delgado from The Dark Tower.

You can go as Dead Superman and she can go as Lois.

Spartacus and his wife. Neo and Trinity.

We actually went as Tyler Durden (her) and Ed Norton's character for Halloween.

I'm pretty sure we've settled on Elle and Budd from Kill Bill. We're going to ask around to see if anyone else going to the party wants to help complete the five targets from the movies.

The fictional deaths party was this weekend. We went with Budd and Elle from Kill Bill, and we think the costumes came out really well. There were definitely a lot of people there that copped out and picked clothes from their closet and a nondescript character, but it was still fun. There actually was a Tyler Durden there and a Neo.

Still cool costumes though.

Ha, nicely done! I didn't care for the films myself, but cool costumes. Also, you didn't take any suggestions from this thread! :D

We had that debate. :) We think it's pretty likely she's dead. She was left in a trailer, blind, with an ultra-poisonous snake, one that the camera focused on during The Bride's exit. Considering that her plan was to kill all five it's doubtful she'd leave her in a situation that she expected her to survive.

And thanks for the costume compliments.
