I have to apologize for lack of a comic update last Thursday, I have had a lot going on and it totally slipped my mind. I promise it will never happen again.

This weeks comic (http://www.playitreviewit.com/dipswitch) comes a little late after the announcement of Ensembles closure (http://www.playitreviewit.com/forums/showthread.php?t=459), but it still is relevant. It is a sad day when one of the old studios goes under, especially one with a pedigree like Ensemble has. Age of Empires was one of the first RTS' that I cut my teeth on, and I believe they truly had a grasp on the genre. It is disheartening that RTS's haven't found their place on console, and it really comes down to the controls. You truly cannot replace a keyboard and mouse with a console controller and hope to have the level of control over an RTS title. I haven't gotten a chance to try out the Endwar beta (http://endwargame.us.ubi.com/) yet, but from what I've heard, the voice controls are decent, but nothing to write home about.

What we need is a game like Halo, only in RTS form. Many of us had been playing first person shooters for years and years on the PC, so Halo was nothing that new (albeit a great game). To the people who never had never truly enjoyed a good FPS game on a PC before, it was a total and absolute kick to the head, and ignited the FPS console genre as the staple of console gaming. If someone could implement a strong, userfriendly, competent user interface, then it would at least ignite a fire under the genre, and developers could figure out a way to itterate, and innovate.

I eagerly await that day.

Check back on Thursday for a great new comic!

My girlfriend spotted this on the screen and asked what Dipswitch was. I found myself telling her that, compared to the first couple comics of most webcomics, the art and style is already a step above, and I can't wait to see where it goes. I'm very impressed with the overall look of the comic, especially when I think about how it will look with a few years practice under your belt.

If you look back, your first ten comics are funnier and better drawn than just about any other established webcomic artists first ten strips. God, the first couple Penny Arcades are just horrible.

Please don't stop. Update on a regular schedule, and keep at it for a year or two, and you'll be able to make a living off this thing. According to a webcomics panel I once attended, updating on a regular schedule is the number one most important part of becoming a successful webcomic. I think thursday was a good choice, and maybe someday you'll be pumping out enough of these to change it to a twice a week schedule.

Kudos and good luck!

First off, thanks so much for the kudos.

Second, I work ahead. Meaning, right now, barring Siraris' heavy schedule, you could right now be looking at two times a week easily! :) But, Siraris is busy with CoG and PiRi and all the mastering of the webs, and I'm functionally illiterate when it comes to webdesign...Or I'd upload twice a week to the site.

So, the comic you're reading on Thursday, was probably sketched, inked and colored sometime last week. Luckily for the people who like reading Dipswitch, I can't stop drawing comics. I can't stop drawing for anything...I'm very happy people like the comic, though! :)

Here's (http://www.playitreviewit.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13&highlight=ninjas) the beginnings of Dipswitch, which in actuality wasn't about Den, Vic, or Dipswitch. It was about ninjas in a corporate or realistic setting, kind of like the henchmen on the Venture Brothers. It was a comic I tried to produce for my work's newsletter, but was deemed NSFW, and so, I kept drawing it for my friends on myspace, and then adapted it to video games, because of the Ninja Gaiden reference.

Then, I added a comic to my review at PiRi, and won a contest! So, I thought, hell, why don't I just ask Siraris if he wants a webcomic for the site. I was going to be drawing anyway, and I guess he was happy with the idea.

So, a bunch of comics later, and here we all are. Dipswitch is a reality...and since I work ahead, it will be around for a long time, hopefully!

Thanks again,

Alienmastermind

Siraris, any chance of navigation buttons? It'd be pretty awesome :) I have it from a reliable source (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/showthread.php?t=109&highlight=Dipswitch&page=2#24) that the buttons have already been drawn. Oh and solely Dipswitch RSS feed would be nice.

EDIT: Reading this back it sounds really harsh and arrogant. It's not meant to be :( It's just humble requests, you can tell me to STFU if you wish.

Siraris, if you are needing any help, I can knock out a whole php / mysql implementation for a Comics page equal to XKCD in a few hours.

OK guys, buttons are all functioning properly. Let me know what you think.

Thanks for the offer Zrikz, wasn't a big deal, but I appreciate the offer :)

Hey Siraris, some of the buttons lead back to the second comic, and skip over the Star Wars one-panel.

I love the buttons.
