Yeahbuwha (http://www.newsarama.com/tv/100801-GraysonsonCW.html)? According to Variety (http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117993158.html?categoryid=14&cs=1), the CW is preparing a new series based on Dick Grayson – before he was Robin, the sidekick of Batman. Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson – executive producers of Smallville, and Supernatual executive producer McG are behind the project, which has received a put pilot commitment from CW.
As the trade reports, the series will take a Smallville tone in that it will focus on the young man (Dick “DJ” Grayson - his full name is Richard John Grayson) before his hero days. The series will either replace Smallville, if this turns out to be the series final season, as many are speculating, or be a companion piece to the series starring a young Clark Kent, if this season’s ratings justify a ninth season. Now, I know Dick Grayson's origin, and it's pretty damn thin. He was a circus brat, that's it. Are they going to keep him as part of an itennerant troupe of acrobats, or somehow turn him into a suburban kid? I've never really watched SMallville, so I doubt I'd catch this one, but it's an interesting choice for a show IMO.

No! NO! No, no, no, no, no, NO! NO!
Who gave these people the right to trample all over the DC universe with this high school drama crap?

We can just hope that this wont get picked up, just like the Aquaman show didnt. I would like to see a Green Arrow show spun off of Smallville, with GA running the JLA. Smallville wouldnt be so bad if it would just freakin have him be Superman already, and if they arent going to do that, they have to end it.
But a show about Dick Grayson? "DJ" was I think 10 years old? 8 years old? When his parents were killed. There isnt much story to that. Hell, make it a sitcom, it doesnt get any worse.

I liked Smallville but I think the Nightwing stuff would make for a better TV series.
They'll probably combine elements of Dick, Jason, and Tim. I don't see how they could possibly do just Dick.

I liked Smallville but I think the Nightwing stuff would make for a better TV series. That's the core problem: he wouldn't be Nightwing or Robin. They're explicitly banned from using, showing or even mentioning Batman. So it would be his life before he became a crime fighter. Which in the comics was that of a trapeeze artist in a traveling circus. Not exactly a hot concept.

They could probably do a Nightwing without Batman....just like they did a Birds of Prey without Batman.

But Batman was never a big part of BoP. How do you get Richard into the tights without Batman? If he's just striking out on his own as a hero, well then it's not really Richard Grayson IMO.

They can do the "Batman has abandoned Gotham City" angle again or something like that. They can get that point across without mentioning him.

If they cant do it right, they shouldnt do it. Ugh.

They may as well just set it in Bludhaven. They could do it. Teen Titans did a good job with it. If a cartoon can do it, surely this show can do it, right?

Also, I disapprove of this television series. There is only room for two D (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092359/)J (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0094540/)s in my television heart.

Why is Batman now allowed to be mentioned? All this stuff is airing on the CW, the network owned by Warner Brothers, that owns DC comics.
I think it sounds like a horrible idea, as I don't give a shit about Robin before his parents died, not even if they were secretly superspies traveling with the circus... my god, that is even WORSE.

YOU'RE GIVING THEM IDEAS!! STOP!
(in fairness they'd just have to lift it from Spider-manchild's parents)

They went so far as to ban Two-Face, Ra's al Ghul and (I think) Scarecrow from the most recent Batman cartoon for the same reasons. Bruce Wayne was supposed to be on an ep of Smallville and they nixed that too, even though he was never supposed to be in costume on the show.
