Left 4 Dead pre-load complete?

I just loaded up steam to see the latest Chrsitams sale deals, and then I look at my game collection, and wait, what? Left 4 Dead pre-load complete? I didn't touch anything related to Left 4 Dead, and yet now it's pre-loaded.

Does this happen when someone gifts you a game? Or is there some other explanation?

Edit: It says "purchase" where it usually says "launch" so I think something else happened.

Nothing to do with gifts, AFAIK, because they wait until you check your email to give you the game. I think I had this happen to me with Portal, but nothing ever came of it; I ended up deleting the game soon after.
