Seriously. When I had read that the path would be lighted red for you, I figured this game would be a cake walk. But, only the most obvious shit is lighted red, you know, the way you are going to go anyway.
I am stuck on "Jackknife" trying to escape a hoard of cops and the "where do I go button" points me at the fucking wall. Running around the level, there doesn't seem to be any place where you can jump over the fence, and there isn't time to check cause all the douchebags are shooting at you. Trying to fight these guys is annoying and results in death. Fucking fuck fuck!
OK, that is all. Vent is done.

Is this after you come out of the big hole in the ground? You jump up on either one of the forklifts or one of the big metal shipping containers and jump over the fence... I think.

Thanks, yes you are correct. Almost immediately after posting this, I went on to figure out where I needed to go. There really is something to venting that clears the mind, I think.

I just got to the stupid fucking boat, and quit in disgust after the fight against the stupid white ninja bitch, who I'm pretty sure I already know who is, just because it'll make no fucking sense like every other part of the plot of this stupid game.
Can't counter anything she does, can't punch her because she can counter that, FAQ says she can't counter slide kick, but stupid bitch won't slide kick for some reason.
And I thought sending me into hand to hand with a cunt with a goddamn SAW was ridiculous.

I gave up on the game when you enter the huge room with all the ninjas chasing you. I couldn't seem to outrun them, and fighting them was a losing battle.
Mirror's Edge is the epitome of great idea, flawed execution. The free running is a lot of fun, the fighting is atrocious.

That is precisely where I quit the game and sent it back to Gamefly. Terrible terrible execution of a great idea. I hope they make a second one and do what Ubi did with AC2.

I can understand why some people didn't like it, but I thought it was just about perfect. I even enjoyed the fighting, although I managed to avoid most of that. I kept waiting to run up against some wall like everyone else and start hating it, but I didn't.

Wow. Such hate. I found only one part really frustrating (and that's because I was going for the no guns achievement), but I got past it.
Good luck, gents.

This is the exact rage I am feeling right here, but for other areas of the game. Although, I was able to get the slide to work, but what worked better was the flying kick. Use the flying kick, hit her a couple of times and then look for her weapon to flash red.
With regard to my earlier issue, I think I would have approached it differently. After a little running around, you can encounter a guy by himself. If you beat the shit out of him, mouse 2 picks up his weapon. Later in the game, I remembered this: take one guy out and use his weapon to make sure every single mother fucker is dead, to hell with the run away like a ninja part.
My current frustration is with the level immediately following your white ninja bitch level, J Arcane. Fucking ninja fuckers that I cannot isolate sufficiently to implement my "kill all the mother fuckers" strategy. And, without knowing exactly where to go, I die, and I die, and I die.
They really needed to be more liberal with the red signs, since often it doesn't appear unless I am close enough to guess it would be a good way to go anyway.
Edit: Found a way to deal with the fucking ninja fuckers. Let them come, one at a time, jump over to you. Try to get around behind them after avoiding a jump or a jump kick and use the disarm on them. Once I did that, I actually felt kinda cheesy, but happy to be done with them.

Yeah that was the only time I got frustrated with Mirror's Edge. The thing that really pissed me off was when I beat the game using no guns, and the achievement didn't unlock. All that hard work for nothing. I took the game out, and didn't play it again for a year.
The only thing I can think of is I accidentally shot into a wall during that run through. But I reloaded a check point in hopes I could still get the achievement... no dice, sad Wolvie.
Edit: the spots that got my anger worked up was the lobby staircase when the SWAT comes in to take you down. Playing through that part with stealing guns and using them against the SWAT? Hard, and kinda frustrating, but doable. Dropping guns so you can get the achievement? Fucking stupidly frustrating, and angering.
The other was the part in the server room, when the SWAT unit comes in and you got to fight four armed cops with fully automatic guns at once. I damn near broke a controller at that point.

I guess it just comes down to skill. Some people have it, some don't. ;)

The combat in this game really pissed me off, because of the fact that the counter animation lasts long enough for another guy some distance away to shoot you dead. Either his aim is amazing, or he doe's mind perforating his buddy. Because of this I never took into account the ability to grab a gun until I was in the server room (and everyone else was a ragdoll.)
In fact I still think the game would have been immensely better if you couldn't use guns at all.
With combat, I found jump kick-cock punch-punch-punch or wall jump-punch were pretty expedient.
And slide-jump-repeat is pretty useful for dodging bullets.
Oh, the other bit that pissed me off, was in mall, when you need to get out. It just was not obvious where you were meant to go. I fact it was counter intuitive, since you are conditioned to look for a red exit, but then the revolving door isn't so it looks like it isn't the exit. Plus a revolving door hardly seems the best route when you're being shot at by four guys with machine guns.
It's not that the game is mediocre, it is just that it is that has excellent parts and shitty parts. Still, pretty good for $5 though :D

Finished the game. By the time I got to the end, I felt that I had a good handle of the game. It needed to be a bit longer, with a more gradual build up.
Oh, and quicksave. This game mother fucking needed quick save.

As far as I'm concerned all this game needed was native mod support. It's a goddamn crime it doesn't have that. :\
But, that said, one leve was a small green room where you go up, around to another chamber, and then into a vent across a small chasm. I couldn't get into that vent for the life of me until I watched a walk-through.

Play the game on Easy difficulty. It only affects the combat, leaving you to enjoy the free-running.

Ha. I was thinking about getting this since it was $5 on Steam. Then I figured, why pay for frustration? So I didn't get it. I watched my friend play the demo, and it just didn't look like any fun. To me it looked like the worst part taken from every first person game and combined into one game. Now I say worst, as in shit I hate. But it winds up in a lot of games, so someone likes it. So I am all for making a game filled full of stuff I hate to please those who actually like it so they can keep that crap out of every other game.

I thought Mirror's Edge was a fantastic game, and everyone should own it at a $5 price point. The controls take a little getting used to, but by the first couple levels you should have a pretty good grasp on the movement and be able to figure out what can be vaulted and jumped on and what can't. I only got stuck maybe once or twice, and never any longer than Uncharted 2 or Assassin's Creed in terms of finding where I need to climb.
As for the combat, I found the slide kick to disarm the most useful tactic in the game. Run right at the bitches, slide tackle, then wait a moment as they turn their backs. Once that happens, you should be able to go for the disarm.
It's a great first try and I expect a sequel to really sharpen up what could have been improved. Give me more outside free running, maybe even some street level stuff where you hop over parking meters, schools, parks etc. Tighten up the combat and allow some more disarms/maneuvers and maybe lengthen the game some. Do that, and they could have a real gem on their hands for the next one.

I had a love-hate relationship with it like some of the other people here as well. I felt that the heavy combat was introduced to early and too frequently. There should have been several levels which were almost solely free running, with only the occasional cop thrown in, instead in the very first level you hit a spot with three or four cops and a helicopter gunship all firing automatic weapons at you at once. It also hurt the attempt at realism of the game. Faith was portrayed as extremely athletic and well trained, but without the crazy moves of Prince of Persia, but then you go through combat sequences where I was hit so much Faith must have rattled when she walks at the end of them.

Hate to bring this thread back, but I just wanted to wholeheartedly agree with two points:I thought Mirror's Edge was a fantastic game, and everyone should own it at a $5 price point. The controls take a little getting used to, but by the first couple levels you should have a pretty good grasp on the movement and be able to figure out what can be vaulted and jumped on and what can't. I only got stuck maybe once or twice, and never any longer than Uncharted 2 or Assassin's Creed in terms of finding where I need to climb.Absolutely. Well, I've not played AC2 or U2, but after playing Mirror's Edge and Portal, the old notion that "FPS' shouldn't have jumping puzzles!" is not only out the window, it's silly. This game really didn't strike me as THAT frustrating, (I, and most people I see comment on it, only got stuck on one point per player, and normally it's not that bad.)
Do that, and they could have a real gem on their hands for the next one.And this. As fun as it was, it really could've used a few more ground level maps with big crowds. Just like indoors, city streets can be just as full of objects to jump on, around, through, and slide under, as rooftops.
This game is seriously a direction I'd like to see the Industry expand on in the future. A "First Person Action" game, I guess.

Near the end of the game, I wanted to throw my controller (I did the 360 version). That fucking lobby before the server room... ugh. I think the part that angered me the most was how random the AI's aim is. Sometimes they can shoot me dead with what feels like 1 bullet from really far away while I am running, other times they miss every shot, hell, even replaying the same scene again and again (that lobby) the results are different as sometimes I get shot before I can even get near a guy using the sneaky-jumpy way, other times I can get to the guy.. without any deviation on my part.
Thus I don't like the game, as the AI is more setup for a FPS game, not a platforming game.
