By not means a full or accurate list but it's the best summing up of the next year's games that I've seen so far. As some one who is only gaming on a PC at the moment there are 30-40 games on that list that I'd like to buy if I can... that's an insane number when I'm only counting games I'm really interested. It's even more crazy given that a large number of those are games that I'm hugely excited about such as starcarft mass effect old republic and so on, and on, and on.
I so need to find myself a job... not that i didn't before hand, i just now have even more reasons to do so.

I count 16 that I'm really looking forward to, and another 10 or so that I'm interested in. No way in hell can I buy 26 games next year, or even find the time to play them all.
Maybe 2011 will suck for games and we can all catch up then?

God, as awful as it sounds, I hope so, I am still backlogged in '09! I have both Dragon Age Origins and AC:2 that I haven't played yet and that's because I have been playing the games I have rented, Torchlight, and MW2. I have only played a little amount of Left4Dead 2 as well! It's ridiculous!

I think every year is going to be a great year for gaming. Then games get pushed back, canceled, or just plain suck. So when it is all said and done, only a few stand out every year. One thing does seem to be going for 2010, is that the release schedule is starting out far more spread out than usual which to me is good. I hate the yearly Christmas rush. Hopefully it works out and games continue to get released when ready rather than to meet a Christmas release.

I didn't really look forward to anything in '09 cept MW2, which I feel delivered in spades. The rest of the year was slim pickings, I definitely spent most of my gaming time on WoW and waiting for the year to hurry up and make way for the awesome of 2010:
Crackdown 2, Brink, AVP3, Cataclysm!!

My watchlist (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/blog.php?b=949) doesn't have nearly as many games as that, but it looks like most of them are on your list, and I'm sure there are a few I'll be adding, closer to their release. (Ones on my list that I didn't see on yours: La Pucelle Ragnarok (PSP), Luminous Arc III (DS), Blade & Soul (PC), all of which are still TBA for NA.)
I've got a Madlib for you: A stupid, idiotic, numskull named Andy Bernard sold his Xterra to a smart and capable man named Dwight. This is shaping up to be an awesome day for Dwight.
Sorry, the thread title just made me think of this...

Wow, the 360 list seems awfully short. All those games look good but it still seems short.

I know that next month, I'll have 3 new 360 games to play: Bayonetta, Darkseiders, and Mass Effect 2. Shit, I can't wait! :)
Also, BlazBlue: Continuum Shift... I hope it's a great follow-up to one of the most unique and gorgeous fighters I've played in a decade.
Laughing Penguin
12-18-2009, 04:55 PM
PC/Wii: Super Meat Boy
I think that I might need this game based on the name alone.
Iron Past
12-18-2009, 04:56 PM
I'm all over Darksiders and Mass Effect 2 next month, and while I have others like Dark Void on my list as well, how many gift cards I get will determine how much I buy. Then there's February, with Dante's Inferno and Splinter Cell: Conviction... too many games.

Issue with the list: Syberia 3's PC and PS3 announcement was an April Fools' joke. They still want to make it, but the announcement was a joke. It said that you had to play it online, and you couldn't beat it unless you were co-opping with someone on the other platform. So, if I were playing on the PS3, I'd need a PC player to finish it. Which I thought sounded really cool, until they announced on April 2 that it wasn't happening.

The first 5 months of next year alone is brutal, let alone that FFXIV will be out sometime after that. There will be a ton of great games to buy really cheap late next year, there's just far more coming out that I want to play than I'll have the time or the budget for.

Assuming all those titles come to pass in 2010, I have 12 on my "definitely interested" pile and five more on the "maybe" stack. That doesn't mean I'll have the time or money for them all, though...

Maybe I'm a jaded bastard but theres only like 5 things on that list I'm really interested in and thats assuming FFXIII actually ever makes it to the PC, which seems unlikely.
Some of them might be cool, but theres not a whole lot that I would say "Yes, I'm definately getting that."

PS3 - 5 + 1 multiplatform
360 - 3 + 1 multiplatform
DS - 3

Yep. They are letting the 3rd's take over. On the other hand, aside from all the others they keep their stuff far closer to the chest than they used to and both directors have been saying we have seen about half the releases of unique IP's announced. So that's cool.
It is a fucking epic time for games man. No matter what system you own.
Total bankruptcy is in your future.

Sure you can buy them...just not at full price. $60 is a fools price anyway. Just wait it out a bit. Hell, Tekken 6 has been discounted heavily and it was released last month. I bought Dragon Age for 360 for $35 bucks two weeks or so after it came out. I've played most of the games I've wanted to this year and haven't bought a single one for $60. I'm proud of that. And almost all of them were bought brand new.

Who the hell wants a new console release with all this going on. That's why I like longer console cycles--when you release a new console there seems to be quite a big dry spell after launch. We don't see that as much years into console lifespans.

Of course: More companies can make more big-budget games once the playerbase is larger.

Maybe that's when I'll be able to catch up with my backlog, when the new consoles get released. Because the damn thing sure isn't shrinking any.

I'm replacing my shitkicker PC next year just so I can play Aliens Vs. Predator properly. I was a HUGE fan of the first 2 games.
Man, look at all those PC titles, including the cross-platform releases! The reports of PC gaming's death have been greatly exaggerated. Again. Every single year.

I have my doubts of some of them coming next year, Batman 2, Fable 3 to name but a few.
Still seems there wil be lots of good games, hopefully with a strong 09 backlog and the games dropping in Jan/Feb I won't go out of my mind in the usual summer droll

Gaming is at a point where there are too many good games. I tend to find it very easy to look past a lot of AAA titles, so there has never been a point in gaming releases where there are TOO many games for me to handle, but on that list alone there are more games that I want then I have purchased in the last 2 years, which sadly means, that some will get the cut. I don't have that kind of time/money.

Even at $30 a piece, I can't afford 26 games. That's $780. Even at $20 it would be $520, which is probably right about my limit for the year. And that's just these games. We don't know what's going to be debuted at E3 and possibly blow us all away come November.

That's essentially the boat I'm in. Time and money just don't exist to play all of the games I want on one platform, let alone the 5 that I own (all aside a gaming PC pretty much). It's insane.

Pffft. Ya lightweights!
Get a rental plan. You not only save money, but it prevents you from continuing to play games you're really not that into...
"Hmm, I kinda like The Force Unleashed, but these boss battles are like sticking my hand into a garbage disposal... Hey, I could have Red Faction right now? Good bye, poorly balanced jedi game!"
January and February look pretty great, but after that, it gets pretty hazy on what will actually come out and what will actually be good. Besides, there are worse things than having to raise your standards! :)

How does it prevent me from continuing to play games that I'm not really into any more than not buying, or simply not playing them does?
And when I had a rental plan, I ended up getting a few games that I thought I might like, but then didn't. Which wastes about 2 weeks given how crappy this ship times are for Gamefly to Phoenix.
And part of my issue is spare time. I don't have a ton of time to spend on games, so if I do buy a game I know I'm going to enjoy, I won't have time to play the game I rented. So it's again wasting money. Though if Gamefly could fix their service, I'd totally sign back up with them. But when I had them earlier this year it took 6-10 business days for turn around, which is completely unacceptable.

Only January and February? Maybe if you don't have a PS3, Wii, PSP, or DS, but the first six months of next year look like this for games I'd like to play:
3D Dot Game Heroes
Alan Wake
Arc Rise Fantasia
Bayonetta
Bioshock 2
Crackdown 2
Dante's Inferno
Dark Void
Darksiders
Final Fantasy XIII
Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of The Moon
God of War III
Heavy Rain
Hot Shots Tennis: Get a Grip
Lost Planet 2
Lunar: Silver Star Harmony
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
ModNation Racers
Monster Hunter Tri
Resonance of Fate
Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love
Shadow of Destiny
Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey
Shiren the Wanderer
Silent Hill: Shattered Memorie
Valkyria Chronicles 2
White Knight Chronicles
Yakuza 3
I'd have to win the lottery tomorrow then send my wife and kids on a six month trip to be able to have the time and money for all of those. I don't see that happening. :p

Thank god my list is pretty tame:
Crysis 2
Deus Ex 3
FF13
MGS: Rising
MGS: Peace Walker
Ghost Recon 4
God of War 3
GT5
Last Guardian
maybe:
Alan Wake
Heavy Rain
C&C4
Mass Effect 2
Alan Wake, assuming it actually makes 2010, and Heavy Rain will really depend on the reviews (although they look awesome now).
The good thing is a lot of those are the type games that won't be on my to-do list very long, where "5 minutes before I go to bed" turns into all-night. I guess that's a good thing... :(

I already said that raising your standards is good. This advice was for the people that refuse to do that. :)
Only January and February? Maybe if you don't have a PS3, Wii, PSP, or DS
Well, that's a given. :)
Of course, I don't have a Wii any more (gadz, that sounds like a thresher accident) because I looked at its release schedule and realized that zero games were going to crack my -rental- list.
If the PS3 had more unique-looking exclusives like Heavy Rain, I'd be picking one up with the money I made from selling my Wii (there's no way to reference a Wii safely, is there?).
I guess if you don't find Japanese game development to have completely stagnated in the last decade, you end up with a much longer list! :)
I have 11 games to rent in the first 6 months of next year and 2 to buy (Mass Effect 2 and Red Dead Redemption). If I got a PS3, it'd add 3 rentals (although that doubles my PS3-only list, so that's a nice few months for them). One game every two weeks is manageable... plus, we all know not everything is going to make it on time. That's why I refuse to look beyond 6 months - this fall looked absolutely packed, but ended up pretty moderate.
The good thing is a lot of those are the type games that won't be on my to-do list very long, where "5 minutes before I go to bed" turns into all-night. I guess that's a good thing...
Now THAT is where things get tricky. My "game every 2 weeks" plan goes to hell with Mass Effect 2 and Red Dead. Luckily (?) a few games are bound to suck, so I'm counting on making up the time there. If we ever reach a point where near-every game is good to great for an extended period, gamer productivity will hit an all-time low. :)

That'd only get me 3 more games: Uncharted 1 & 2 and Infamous.
The PS3 just seems to rely heavily on Japanese-produced exclusives, which tend not to interest me at all. Things seem to be improving, though - within a year the PS3 will have gone from 1 to 6 exclusives that I'd like to play. That's a nice jump. By the time Agent hits, it might be the tipping point.

Damn this game, I tried getting into it a couple of times now, but the way it tells it's story just bores me (the whole select this square to play another cutscene just felt a bit off, pointless even). I'd rather have something less fragmented. I know it's supossed to be great, but I can't get into it.
Maybe it's also because I live in Holland and the scenery isn't that interesting to me, mills, grass, heck even half the names used there are actual Dutch places.

It's not for everyone. You have to enjoy the style of gameplay, which is an RTS/FPS hybrid, with a heavy emphasis on strategy. And I can totally get the issue with the cutscenes. I'm not a huge fan of the talking head text marathon style that many RPGs use either, but this game is so awesome pretty much everywhere else that it's completely worth it for me.
