While still too early for me to write a solid review, I decided to post my impressions of Fable 2 after about 10 or so hours of playtime. At first I attempted to write an article, then I realized it was going to be ridiculously long. This game is deep, real deep, with tons and tons of things to do. So I tried to break down some interesting things I've found out while playing.
Lets try to explain this in terms of a gaming equation.
Fable 1 + Oblivion Quest Design + Sims Style Character Relations + PETZ style AI Pet + Casino Mini Games + Job Mini Games + Actual Town Economy Mini Game + EVE Online Style Income = Fable 2
I'm probably missing something. Something I haven't even seen yet. In fact, I know I haven't even touched the weapon modification system yet. Damn it.
You can read the full 10 point list right here (http://www.co-optimus.com/article/707/10_Things_You_May_or_May_Not_Know_About_Fable_2_-_My_Impressions.html).

That's awesome. I did not know that the floating orbs took on the gamerpics of your friends. I wonder how that will work if they choose to use an Avatar when the NXE drops?

Dang it, I hadn't read much about Fable 2 in hopes of not getting it right away (too many games to buy at once).
I shouldn't have read your 10 bullets, that sounds awesome.

Right now it's the default Xbox Logo Icon. I'm not sure how it will change when the NXE launches - but I do have a few folks on my list who are running it already.

In the NXE, your gamerpic will be either your old gamer pic or it can be a snapshot of the face of your avatar.

I love how my company blocks a site like Co-Optimus, yet a site titled Colony of Gamers isnt blocked. Oh well... guess I'll have to give it a read later.

That's because CoG is new and not categorized yet. That's how most web filters work.

Same here ... co-op never used to be blocked.
I have to hold off on reading anything, I want to have a fresh, start at the game, with no preconceived or known facts (other than what was mention/shown in previews).
This game is the kind of game that could potentially save marriages! Assuming you play with the wife, and not the mistress-es.

And I liked the first one a lot. No time to play it this week though, so will have to hold off.

Fable 2 is shipping next to me from Gamefly. Effin' sweet.
Though I sort of wanted to buy this, and put it on my list without thinking. Still might. Have 2 giftcards with Fallout 3 and Fable 2's name on them. I'll probably just Buy It Now from Gamefly and save the giftcard for another game this fall.

Seriously, this game is infinitely better than the first. And I liked the first one.

Wow, that definitely got me pumped.

I was telling Nick earlier today that ever since they were announced my most anticipated games this fall were Fable 2 and FarCry 2. I'm not gonna put blinders on with either game, but I am very interested in them.
I marginally liked the first Fable game. It's biggest problem was that the side stuff just didn't interest me and I found myself going through the main story and I remember it taking less than 10 hours to beat.

Sounds Awesome. I'm really looking forward to the new economy system they've put in, which was something that I really thought was under-developed in the first one.

Damnit, my ability to avoid spending lots of money on games is directly related to how well I can avoid strong positive impressions.

Man. I was interested in this game before reading that. Now I'm just glad that GameFly is sending it out to me today. I might be sick tomorrow... :)

Huh. I just get done marathoning through the epic that is Dead Space and now this comes out. Impossible mode will have to wait. Is it more or is it like "dot it right" genre year? Every game seems to be the perfect example of its genre.

I loved the first one and I squeezed like 23 hours out of the first one.

Yeah, I know. It SHOULD be out Wednesday, but Gamefly just confirmed it was shipped out today with Fast Return. I wonder if it will indeed be here in a couple days. If so, hooray!

Not at my EB, but it's a mall EB.
Pumped to play this game tomorrow night, almost ditched dinner with my friends to play more. That's how dedicated I am to my hobby.

Before anyone starts to knock this game before they play give it a try! Although I haven't played it I am a huge fan of part one. I really like the bullet points that you wrote up but as soon as I bought Fable 1 at launch I knew I was going to buy Fable 2.
This is gonna be a great few months of gaming...
Fable/Fallout/Gears... Giggity!

Thankfully this game was shipped by Gamefly yesterday, so now I can avoid having to shell out $60 to play it. Unfortunately, it shipped from LA, so I don't expect it to arrive until Thu. or Fri.

I live in Maine and get mine from PA. Why do you still go through LA?

I've become more and more excited for this game lately. It's been too long since I played a good RPG, and I need that fix. The question is - this or Fallout 3? I'll pick both of them up eventually, but I can't afford them both back to back.
I should probably go with this, since I've already got two people that want to play co-op with me.
Shandor

I'm going with both. Fable 2 until Fallout 3 comes out. Then Fallout 3 until I'm done. Then back to Fable 2. :)
DeathtollWRX
10-21-2008, 01:44 PM
I'm going both, but I have a feeling Fallout 3 will last a hell of alot longer than Fable 2. If Oblivion was any indication of Fallout's length then I will be happy... Hell for that matter all Fallout games are long...
Now if someone will just make a remake of
Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magik Obscura
Every bit as good as Fallout but no one remembers it.

I never finished that game, (or even got that far, to be fair) but it was awesome. I lost my CDs though.

Arcanum basically took the Fallout game style and expanded upon it. Wizards and Elves versus the steam power and the passing of Magic as the world power to technology.
Arcanum has one of the best storylines and endings I have ever seen in a game but almost nobody knows about this lost treasure.
Seriously, in how many games can you have an orgy and wake up butt naked? NOT MANY!

Wow...your family had pretty unique rules for their board games! ;)
I'm so happy I told my flatmate about this game. She doesn't really follow gaming (apart from the Sims 3. I think she's read every fact about that game), but she loved the first Fable. The addition of a dog pretty much sold her on it.

I can already tell that my sweetheart and I are going to be fighting over who gets to play this... He's been playing for a few hours now, and I'm fidgeting with the urge to boot him off so I can play.
