SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS

Can be found here (http://www.slashfilm.com/2008/10/19/watchmen-ending-changed/#more-16159). The ending has been changed in accordance with some extreme dickery and apparently not for the better.

Instead, Dr. Manhattan and Ozymandias build a machine that mimics Dr Manhattan’s powers and Ozy uses the machine to set off atomic bomb like explosions in various cities around the world.

   What. The. Fuck.

Fucking A. I don't understand what the fuck happened here. You can debate Zack Snyder's prowess as a director, but he was spot on with 300 in following the book. The only things that changed were some additional scenes to flesh out the story.

This change is just fucking crazy.

Why would Dr. Manhattan be working with Ozy? Sounds like they completely fucked up the movie.

This just went from a must-see to a rental.

None of it makes and damned sense.

It looks like Alan Moore will once again get to point and laugh.

There are no spoilers for a 20 year old story. Some of you need to chill out on this BS.

Surprisingly, there are large sectors of the populace that have never read this book. I know, I know, they're rubes and unwashed masses undeserving of consideration, but it's true.

Besides, I was hiding the spoiler for the movie.

Ouch, I just felt my stomach sink. That really sucks...

Isn't the whole point with the squid that humanity gets an external enemy to unite against? Wouldn't a bunch of random nukes initiate armageddon rather than stop it? This just sounds weird to me.

That is the first thing I thought Wedge.

In the article everyone still says it is awesome, but in the article they also mention that cast members were talking about the original ending. I don't get it, and I hope this is only a rumor. I really, really want to see the original ending done on film.

My thoughts exactly. How does this new ending get everyone on the same side? Unless they somehow explain that it's still an outside force...

Wait...I'm still reading it :( Almost done, though I accept spoilers because they don't bother me. From the sounds of it, though, this change to the ending may make me as upset as I felt when they changed the ending of Fight Club :(

What I've heard is that Snyder was trying to make it 100% faithful, but that studio execs have been pretty consistently trying to change it.

Yeah, that's what I've heard too. This doesn't jive with what I heard his original cut was...which sucks. He's already said he'll put that cut out on DVD (and I think the studio said it was fine), so if I have to wait to see that, I will (and he said he'll integrate the Black Freighter stuff).

He really has some dumbass friends.
I’ve talked with a couple of my friends who are fans of the book, and many of them were quick to admit that unleashing the squid was probably not the best way to go.

What if it's just a fake rumor to make the ending a surprise again? We all think we changed the ending, but of course we still go see it openening weekend because we're nerds, and SURPRISE! It's the original ending after all! That way he's returned some of the shock of that ending to us.

Probably too much to hope for, but wouldn't that be nice?

Well, there has been much speculation and rumor that this is just a big misinformation campaign, particularly in that the cast members had been talking about the original ending.

From my understanding, Veidt tries to blame the explosions on Dr. Manhattan, to try and get the world to rally against him. In a way, he takes the place of the squiddy. This leaves the question of why the world remains united, since presumably he still leaves for parts unknown at the end of the film.

I can understand why they made the change. I don't think the most important part of the ending was that Veidt summoned a giant alien squid, it was that he killed millions of innocent people to prevent global armageddon and the protagonists are forced to choose whether to reveal this or not.

Plus, his "I already did it thirty-five minutes ago" line is still in, so in a way, it's all good.
