25 Post Forum

One thing I miss from EvAv is the subscriber forum. The reason being, it wasn't searchable by Google's web crawlers (AFAIK).

While I'm not advocating an "exclusive club" type forum, maybe we could set up a forum you can't see until you hit the 25 post mark and get your account bumped up? This way if we want to post something that only users here can see (and not anyone searching Google) we can.

It's not something that I would expect to be filled with threads but it'd have its uses. Thoughts?

Yeah, while I don't really care about having this, it doesn't offend my sensibilities. I mean, honestly, 25 posts is a very low barrier of entry.

I was thinking more about the unsearchable thing, since people could be completely candid without being afraid that someone could google it. But as for a special and separate forum I couldn't care less. I like the open forums we have now and would be perfectly happy if they stayed that way.

If all you want is a forum that's unsearchable, you should be able to do that just with a Robots.txt file. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robots.txt) Tell search engines not to index a forum, and presto! No barrier for entry required.

Anyways, back on topic. This wouldn't be putting people in a "special" group. Your forum group already changes automatically after 25 posts, which is when you can then post to your blog. With this, now reaching 25 posts means you can post to your blog and see the hidden forum. There's no colors, no money involved, etc. Just, it's not searchable by Google.

Also, who says having a non-searchable sub-forum would "allow" people to not think of what they post. It just means they can talk more openly about their life outsides of the internet (scary I know) and not have to worry about it coming back to haunt them. Also, it seems like the best place to have the "Drunk" thread...

Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned subscribers forum. I only referred to that because it was the one place on EvAv that wasn't searchable. Having this forum would be different. Well, unless you only have 9 posts.

We know why you do this, but at this point, you were only about 10 posts from 25 anyway, so really, a bit more participation in some actual discussions could have yeilded better results. I support the 25 post forum, to get back on topic, and I don't think it's excluding anyone. A new member could get to 25 posts in an afternoon by adding his thoughts to existing threads, and then he gets to feel all accomplished and such. Actually the only ones being excluded are the search bots.
