I think the newer Family Guys don't hold a flame to most of the old ones (let's just go completely over the top with everything and hope it sticks) I would still take Family Guy. I really wasn't all that impressed with the Futurama movies.

Please. Futurama wins by having Nixon's Head operating a death robot alone. Those 20 seconds beat any episode of Family Guy. And I love me some Family Guy.

Is it just me, or is American Dad getting better?

It is. I'm lovin the show. I would have added it to the poll list but I just wanted shows that started with F.

I haven't watched any of the new season but was very unimpressed by the few episodes I've watched. Might be worthwhile to check in out it again.

Futurama all the way. I'll admit I wasn't a fan of Beast with a Billion Backs (in fact, it's probably my least favorite Futurama anything), but I'd still take Futurama hands down. Honestly, I don't really like Family Guy. I'll watch it if there's nothing else on, but only three jokes stand out to me that I consistently laugh at when the episode airs.

1) Robert Loggia. "R as in Robert Loggia. O as in Oh my god, it's Robert Loggia. B as in By god, that's Robert Loggia." Etc.

2) Morgan Freeman in "The Narrator."

3) "I'm so hungry, I could ride a horse! Wait, that doesn't make any sense. Well, I guess I could ride it to the store!"

Those always get me. :D

But I love Futurama most.

Family Guy all the way for me. Could never get into Futurama, but I've watched all the Family Guy's a few times.

Family Guy is also one of the few things I love watching the commentary for, mainly because I love listening to Seth McFarlane talk about anything, but also because you get a real sense of how fun it must be to write for that show.

Family Guy went downhill ever since they came back. It was basically "well you guys cancelled us for just dancing on the line of inappropriate, and we came back, so let's catapult across because there's nothing you can do."

Futurama is/was much better.

"Pazuzu you ungrateful gargoyle... I put you through college and this is how you repay me?!?!"

I don't know which is the higher quality show, but I do know that Adult Swim completely burned me out on Futurama, where-as I can watch episodes of Family Guy over and over again and still enjoy them.

Absolutely. It was great before the cancellation. You could argue the same for Futurama, but it is still funnier.

I completely disagree. Family Guy has no story and the characters aren't endearing, which makes repeat watchings horrible.

Also, after the show came back, it became 90% "Hey, remember this joke we did a while back? It's STILL GOOD, AMIRITE?", or Seth MacFarlane ramming his personal politics down our throat.

I cant vote on this as i just recently watched both shows on dvd. Futurama was good but then it started to dwindle at the end a bit. Its a shame when it was cancelled if we would have seen if they could have gotten it back to where it was or if it would have became what family guy is now. Ive actually liked some of the ideas put forth in the movies though.
Family guy hilarious when it came out but has gone down hill since it came back. Its time for it to be put down like a rabid dog(also the simpsons)

I'm not one of those guys who just hates Family Guy. I actually enjoy it once in a while. But it just pales in comparison to Futurama. Maybe the new movies aren't as good as the series, but the original series is definitely solid.

It had smart writing, and actually had plots that served more than to just link together jokes. It was even touching, at times.

I'm loving watching the reruns on Comedy Central lately, especially of episodes I haven't seen in a while.

Leela, we may not have much time left so let's spend all of it reminiscing about Bender. He was like a big computer that ran on magic.Bender, you've been drinking too much, or not enough. I forget how it works with you. The point is, you haven't been drinking the exact right amount."Come, Bender. You'll like being dead!"

"That's what they said about being alive!"

I actually like both the new Family Guy episodes and the new Futurama movie-things. But Futurama is somehow more important to me- it's got a lot more heart and it makes the funny funnier.

This quote always cracks me and Backseat Killer up to no end:

Professor: Oh how awful. Did he at least die peacefully?
[pause]
Professor: To shreds, you say? Tsk tsk tsk. Well, how's his wife holding up?

I think my favorite moment/quote is from the "Obsoltely Fabulous" episode with the Cartridge Unit robot.

Bender: "A working cartridge unit? Wow! You guys went obsolete years ago."
Cartridge Unit: (inserts tape) "Your mother."

That and the CU's "what?!" are just delivered so well it cracks me up every time.

Which now reminds me of the Robot Mafia for some reason. Clamps is one of my favorite characters, but also the big dumb driver Joey Mousepad... when the boss suggests that Flexo should have an "on-the-job accident", Joey says without irony: "With all due respect, Donbot, I don't think we should rely on an accident happening. Let's kill him ourselves." Gets me every time.

Wow, Im shocked so many people actually picked Futurama... We have wittier people here than I thought.

Futurama was something that I never watched while it was on TV, but rather much later with the DVD releases. While I'm not a fan of what they are doing lately with the straight to DVD movies, the series was full of enjoyable humor instead of the over the top antics of Family Guy. Zoidberg has to be one of my favorite characters, even though it took him a while to finally grow on me like a barnacle.

Futurama is, in many ways, the smartest show ever to be on television. The way Matt Groening weaves in sci fi, science, pop culture, the 1980's, toilet humor, etc. is brilliant. He can have Steven Hawking discuss his theories on black holes in the same episode as D and D jokes.

But Family Guy has jumped the shark so hard they left Earth's orbit then exploded.

Billy West might be the best voice actor of all time, and I'm counting Mel Blanc. What's awesome is that he'd never admit it.

In the first season, they meet a being of pure energy. Billy is good enough to do the voice for the creature by producing two totally separate tones in his throat at the same time. Most people would have had to record it twice.

Just Wow. I had no idea he did so many of the voices. I knew he did Fry...that was it. He also does every other character I love though. I would kill to hang out with him and have a few drinks. Then I would pay him just to yell "With my last breath, I curse Zoidberg!" as we stumbled out.

I like both, but against each other? It's not even a contest. Futurama's just better written and better executed. The first movie was kinda weak, but the second one was brilliant I though.

Now American Dad on the other hand, that's a little closer. Much like with Matt Groening, it seems McFarlane's second time was the charm.

Of course, now we've got people bringing up Venture Bros., and THAT would be a fair fight for Futurama.

Buying all 4 box sets of Futurama is one of the best purchases I've ever made. Those dvds are getting worn out and in the next year I may actually need to repurchase one or two.

For any of you who said Futurama dropped in quality towards the end I call malarkey on that! The final DVD of the last box set has 4 of the better episodes in the entire series. The Farnsworth Parabox, Three Hundred Big Boys, Spanish Fry, and The Devil's Hands are Idle Playthings..... What a way to go out.

The movies while aren't the best of Futurama, they are still great. I'm happy its back. I hope they sell well so there is hope of the series returning in its normal 30 minute format.
