So it occurred to me today: Are there any Viking fantasy novels? I popped into my head at the bookstore today and now I really want to find one and give it a thorough read thought.

I guess I'm looking for anything really, but I think I'd really like something that is "fantasy"/mythology but real in the sense of being brutally violent as the vikings were.

Suggestions?

It hardly counts for your criteria, but Beowulf is really the only thing springing to mind right now.

Bernard Cornwell's "Saxon" series is about the Viking (Dane) invasion of Britain. They're historical fiction, not fantasy, though. My dad says they're pretty good. Cornwell's Sharpe series always had good battle sequences, so I imagine there's plenty of sexy violence. That's the only series I can think of off the top of my head. It starts with The Last Kingdom if you're interested.

Thanks, fellas.

I managed to find some stuff, but it looks mostly like fiction as opposed to any mythology or fantasy involved, but I'll probably still read them anyway.

I know Neil Gaiman wrote a Norse fantasy novel for charity a few years back. Was called... Odd and the Frost Giant? Something like that. I think it might have only been available in the U.K. American Gods also centers in large part around the Norse pantheon (among others). Larry Niven's The Magic Goes Away deals with norse mythology, too. Not sure if that's what you're looking for, but it's what I've got.

Any Amon Amarth album.

It's just a shame Amon Amarth is kind of...boring :P

Einherjer are much better...

And Ensiferum...

Anyway, thanks for the suggestions. I think I may start off with this I found:

Sounds badass.

Woah woah woah woah woah. Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency by Douglas Adams...well...maybe not...'fantasy' as much as 'hilarious'.
