View Full Version : Guild Wars anew?

Thanks to that wicked "Races of Tyria" trailer that recently released, I've gotten myself psyched to try getting back into it. Is there anyone else interested in doing the same?
Granted, I, personally, never got far at all in any of the releases - I own the core game, Nightfall, and the Factions PvP pack - and was thinking I might start anew, or at least try to join anyone else who wants to play again.
So, the poll. While I wait for the game to download, I wanted to see if anyone else is interested in getting together to play, and, if so, what sort of way we could group up.
One of the main ideas I thought of is to start new characters, in Tyria or the Nightfall locale, alongside you guys and just have fun. There's a ton of cool stuff to explore in the pre-Searing zone, for example.

I really enjoyed what I played of Guild Wars unfortunately my dumbass lost the game and serial number and with everything else I have to play I just can't justify purchasing it again. Unless I can get the whole set for like $20 I think I'm going to wait for the sequel.

If you installed the game and set it up at any point in the past, you should be able to re-download the client from the Guild Wars website, log in, and get everything you need. See below:
I don't think it matters. If you remember your username and password I believe you can use the client from the guildwars website. After an initial large chunk it streams as you play, so bad ass. Am unsure if it downloads the expansions as I never bought any, but I would assume so.

That's what I did, so it would work for you, too.

Am downloading now, I have a 20 healer that is pretty cool but will probably start a new character to get good again.

If I never bought the expansions, can I still play with you guys? Or is the content exclusive to those who shelled out the cash? I'd like to give GW another try, but I dont know if I'm willing to drop money on expansion packs.

The expansion packs just control the content that you can use personally, so the only major limitation on playing with us, as I understand it, would be that for roleplaying characters we would play the Tyria campaign. For PvP characters, I do not believe there would be any problems.

As far as a time/date to play together, unless another part of the week works better for most, I'm thinking next weekend could serve us well.

i have factions and the main game, could be fun to play the main game with some of you guys and level up some one in factions to bring down in to the main game at some point too if we are still playing

The problem is I bought the game just after it's original launch and I have no recollection of my original login. I'll download the client and try a couple possible things but I doubt they'd work. I'll let you know if I figure it out.

just a side note there running a promo where if you buy the game or any of the expiations you'll get the eye of the north for free... it's temping to pick up nightfall just to fill out my set lol

The deal is kind of tempting for me, too, but then the highest character I've ever had is level 14! :(
I did buy the Eye of the North soundtrack, though, because it's just so good.

I have multiple accounts with all of the campaigns with endgame characters of all classes. I might be able to start a new character (I don't know if I have the character slots) or a friend and I could provide support for harder mission if you need us. Also I still lead the old Evil Avatar guild, but it is pretty much just my accounts at this point. I've been around this game for a very long time and could give some advice on classes/builds if anyone wants it, because the way the game is played now, you have to fill a solid role or nobody wants you because you could easily be replaced with heroes. I highly recommend the main campaign, Nightfall, and EotN, Factions is kinda meh. However, there are some pretty great PvE skills in all campaigns except Prophecies. If anyone is thinking about seriously playing endgame content (hard mode missions, dungeons, elite missions, vanquishing) I would suggest getting the entire pack.

I remember playing GW quite heavily when it first released, but all alot of the features Expugnare's suggested are completely foreign to me. I'd love to give them a try, but I feel if were going to be starting from scratch, we should probably just focus on the regular campaigns to begin with. Once everyone(how many people actually want to play, anyway?) gets back into the groove, we can worry about hard mode, dungeons and whatever other end game content comes with it.
If enough people are interested and want to try something other than the main campaign, I'd be willing to drop the cash on one of the expansions.

As much as I'm loathe to do it, Gamestop is having a sale (http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=72496) on the Trilogy package for $25. I'll probably pick it up for my daughters so we can go through the three original games together.

Hard Mode really gave the game a new lease on life sometime last year I think. It upped the difficulty by a ton and the rewards by just as much usually. The enemies move faster, attack faster, are higher level, use better skills, and follow smarter AI. An unfortunate side affect of HM was the fact that unless you fit into the best few builds and can play a certain role, you are not wanted.

I couldn't figure out my original log in so I created a trouble ticket just incase, there is probably nothing they can do but it never hurts to ask. A friend also let me borrow Nightfall yesterday so worst case scenario I'll have that to mess around with.
