i am working on an idea of a site that would be like a myspace/facebook for gamers, would anyone here at CoG be open to it?
if it takes off maybe link it to the CoG network?

I think that has a potential to be awesome, particularly if it were connected to something like Co-Optimus.

We already have so many sites that gamers use for social networking these days though....IMO for a site to succeed you have to find a niche that isn't filled and fill it. Kind of like what bap did with co-optimus...there weren't any truly known co-op centric sites out there before.

I kinda agree with Sandman. It's a cool idea, but there would need to be things that couldn't be done on a group on Myspace/Facebook.

i'm testing the waters so to speak, the cog network has enough message boards....
i'm open to input from anyone interested.

if it takes off maybe link it to the CoG network?Isn't a forum kinda already a social network? In the strictest sense of the term, at least.
Besides, it's already been done (http://raptr.com), and very well, I might add.

i'm working with the elgg system, wanted to test it out, i may stumble on a niche and i would credit whoever helps me with it...
but if the overall feeling is to not do it then i won't.

There are already two major players in the realm of social networking for gamers.
www.pwned.com is a decent site, but it's full of young kids (the "emo" crowd, mostly) and it's not very pretty.
www.playfire.com is beautiful graphically, but doesn't seem to have that many people on it at the moment.

ok fine then, i give up...
i'm sick and tired of trying to create something new only to have someone say "it's been done before"....
no sense of trying something that would be new and outside of the box..

no sense of trying something that would be new and outside of the box..But you haven't said anything about how your site would potentially be "new and outside of the box." You just said something about a social networking site for gamers, and we gave you examples of how it's already been done.
Tell us what your concept is, and how it's different from what's already out there. Maybe you have the next great thing, but we have no idea. We can only go by what we know.

look, i asked for input, the idea is to make a cross between this community with elements of facebook/myspace , if it's already been done, then fine i won't do it.
and to actually be truthful i tried this same thing over at evav when i first joined as cyberdistraction and i had evil himself pm me and wanted to know my idea i guess so he could take it and run with it..
