I've been looking around at various HDTVs and now that the 32" LCDs are coming down to around $500 I'm probably going to dump my old CRT upstairs in my office.

I've been burned by lower end Wal-Mart versions of name brand products so I'm trying to figure out if this TV is any good and also what alternatives I should look at.

Bookmarking for future reference... I, too, am in the market for a ~$500 LCD.

This is an interesting blog post on off brand out of warranty repair support. Although I'm an optimist I will probably stay on brand for a purchase of this size.

That is actually a pretty good price for a 32" Sharp. I have heard that Vizio makes some nice HDTV's in the 32" range that are decently priced.

I'd consider going with Sony as well. My 50" SXRD has been a great TV.

A little more money for that one though. About another $150.

There isn't a lot of info on that Sharp. It appears to be a relatively new model.

See the link I posted above to the blog post for why I'll probably avoid Vizio.

I have to caution against Sharp, their support for repairing a set is horrible. I get the extended warranty, and it took 6 weeks to get my last set fixed.

You weren't able to get in home service? What TV was this? How long did you have it before it broke?

Let me think, It was at that time a year old. It was a 32 Inch CRT...I have since gotten rid of it. But, no, no in home service from Sharp. My folks have in home service from Sears on their Plasma, rather nice to have.

I got the manufacturer warranty extended because I was leaving the state for college, without being sure what stores were in the area. It really sucked having no in home service.

So, this was a while ago then since it was a CRT TV.

I'd go with the Sony I linked above which is about that price rather than Westinghouse.

Let me think, 2, 3 years ago.

My sister has last year's version of that particular Sony. It's a good set. If you wait until after the feb-april time period (after the super bowl) you could probably pick it up for about $500.

I cannot recommend Vizio my friends swear by it but have had to have a few replaced.
Go with Sony,Phillips,Samsung

I can't recommend Westinghouse... There is a thread about those here somewhere.

I'll probably be waiting on a new office tv as I just had to shell out bucks to fix my car.

Psssh. Who even uses cars these days.

There should be some great deals for HDTV's going on Black Friday. Keep a watchful eye if you are still interested in getting one.

If you're a member, Costco has a 32" Westinghouse right now for $399. They give you a no-questions 90 Day return and add a year to the Warrenty, so you get a 2 year. My girlfriend and I are going tonight to pick one up me thinks, I'll let you know how it turns out.
