Johnny Wander (http://www.johnnywander.com/) is one of the webcomics I follow (updates Tues/Thurs). Usually it's one shot comedy based-on-real-life strips, but they've done a few short fiction/fantasy arcs. This latest one, Delilah & The Basilisk, make me think of PA's Lookouts (http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2009/6/10/), which also featured kids & a basilisk. Anyway, thought this might be of interest to other webcomic fans around here. Below are parts 1 and 2.

My gods, why did it take so long for someone to make a touching story about a little lonely blind girl and her pet basilisk? This is epic.

So why do I have that "Warbot in Accounting" feeling, telling me that this will somehow end in even greater heartbreak?

Anath is half of the duo responsible for Applegeeks, a comic I've been following for a long time.

Very cool to see another of his pursuits.

This is everything I just thought. Quoted for veracity.

Loved it. The ending wasn't the sad tale I expected either. Thanks Wraith!

Also, your avatar is awesome. I want a tree decorated with nothing but various MST ornaments.

With the perspective provided, at least. Try telling that to the boy or the innocent passerby :(

These two characters are from JW's other fantasy arc, Girl with the Skeleton Hand (http://www.johnnywander.com/tag/girl-skeleton-hand).

Do those birds. . . have. . . fangs and tongued jaws where their breasts should be?

MAWS:

Description: A species of blank-staring crows or blackbirds, about the size of a common crow or blackbird. On top of their breastbones are large smiling, pointy-toothed mouths. As far as I can tell, they mostly eat bugs and sit around a lot, making weird noises. I don't think they're particularly smart. Please don't ask me how their skeletal structure works.
Home: Originally drawn as a doodle during work, these fellas were homeless for the better part of a year. They seem to have found a home in a current project I've been working on with Ananth.
Etymology: Mostly named for their weird mouths. Also, the onomatopoeia, "CAW."
