Looks like the guys over at Mozilla have done it again. As I was reading up on my favorite gadget site(s) I stumbled across something incredible. Mozilla Fennec - The mobile firefox browser. As of right now its only for Nokia Tablets, but it is very soon on its way to Windows Mobile phones everywhere. Now here is the link

Oh, apparently you will never see it come to the iPhone because of the strict SDK of what a browser can and cannot do./ (http://ditio.net/2008/07/13/fennec-firefox-mobile-web-browser/)

Cool for phones which have had traditionally crap browsers. The iPhone isn't missing anything though.

Mammon slept. And the beast reborn spread over the earth and its numbers grew legion. And they proclaimed the times and sacrificed crops unto the fire, with the cunning of foxes. And they built a new world in their own image as promised by the sacred words, and spoke of the beast with their children. Mammon awoke, and lo! it was naught but a follower.

How do you go from awesome names like Firefox and Thunderbird to fenneca. WTF is a fenneca?

Probably a reference to the fennec, a type of small fox. Kinda fits for a mobile browser.

Except that its completly based off Firefox 3.0, with any luck that means addons will work. Lets see your fancy shmancy browser do that!

Still sounds pretentious, like a car name or something.
And I doubt add-ons ill work, at all. Puny little phones have puny little memories.

I will relish using it, though I really, really, really like Opera on my blackberry. One thing that perplexes me is tabs on a mobile browser. Not much real estate there, and I do not multi-task online that often on it. I think this will be a great thing for people who use FF3, to sync bookmarks especially.

The bloatware that becomes Mozilla when you add extensions is about the dumbest thing for a mobile device this side of windows mobile not keeping a check on background processes.
Lets see how fast your mobile device is running then.
This isn't even considering the fact that these addons are designed for a mouse and keyboard, and likely large resolution - not a mobile device.

As far as the interface: lots of phones have trackballs and qwerty keyboards.

It's open so I'm sure stream lined add-ons would fall into place. I see on wiki that aside from Windows Mobile, it's compatible with Linux. I wonder if it works on Android.

Not the Iphone and it doesn't need them. Maybe inferior phones. I'm just saying.

I can't wait to try this. I actually made a post the other day hoping for a Mozilla mobile browser (I think). I have tried Opera Mini and I am currently in the beta for Skyfire. I still use Mobile Explorer .
