For "premium" service.

I wonder what that means.

From what i read, everything they have now stays as is and will remain free -for most of us that means yay, dont have to pay to play with friends, which is a good thing.

But other than that..what can they offer to incent us to pay? I cant really think of anything else worth paying for. If they offered on demand tv shows i probably wouldnt pay for it because as far as bandwidth is concerned, i'd sooner just watch it on a tv streaming site rather than use up my precious capped bandwith streaming HD content..

But like.. even the facebook, netflix and whatever content remains free.. so..

What do you think they have up their sleeves?

A Netflix-like streaming video/VOD service?
A GameTab-like game streaming service?

Your title is a little misleading.

Anyway, I can't imagine them adding anything I want really. As long as I can still play my games online for free I'm not fussed about whatever else they do. That's all I really use PSN for.

Does this include cross-game chat and invites?

Does this include cross-game chat and invites?

Does psn have that now?

basically they're saying if you dont pay, nothing as is NOW will change. But i'm assuming there will be stuff like xboxs party system, which, as far as i know PSN doesnt have. So nothing .. now.. will change. You just wont get the new bells and whistles, whatever those are.

Who knows what it could be. There are no rumors of new features coming to PSN to consider for premium content. Home coming out of beta?

Maybe it will be a service that gives you so many PSN dollars per month at a discount, Qore, beta access, demos, and they have some other games that are being built into the PSN. I really don't have a clue.

As long as they do not start charging for online gaming and blocking sites like Facebook & Twitter from the online browser so they can add them as premium content, I'm not sure I care.

This is worrying. Sony could flip-flop at a moment's notice. I'm sure this means some demos will be premium content for a while and other such BS.

As others have said, Sony still needs to catch up with XBL in some ways. Everyone was hoping all the 'catch-up-to-XBL' stuff would be free.

Ugh, I don't care. Just tell me where I need to type my card number.

I know folks are going to see that and think I'm a tool. Toolio, el toolo, Prizefighter from Toolane, whatever. But it's like if I loved golfing, and the country club in my town changed their fees. If there's good stuff there, I'm going to pay. Just tell me what the damage is.

If a reasonable fee is what they need to mak their service sing, then fine. It won't cost more than Live, anyway.

I would really, really expect that to be a lie, because I have interacted with a business before.

I don't use my system enough to warrant a subscription fee for any PSN service. Unless they had a rental type situation with PSN games then I would pay for that.

sony needs to fix a lot of their problems now. how many patches were needed with MW2 to make invites work (sure it might have been activision issue but still, you don't get that shit on xbox live).

wouldn't use netflix or vod - i have a satellite hd for that
wouldn't buy premium themes or games on demand - especially if they are over priced like on xbox.

as long as online gameplay stays free thats fine with me.

I'm the same. So i'll be a tool too. Or sucker as I've numerous times for paying a fee for my gaming habit. I am curious to see what Sony will unveil for it's payable content.

Pretty much my position, too (still). If the price is reasonable for what they're offering, I'll do it. If it's not, I won't. And, if I still get to play online regardless, then that's still what I'll get my new games for.

i dont see them giving up PSN dollaz for free - but - they DO seem to offer free DLC every now and then, like with Brutal Legend, so maybe its access to that kind of thing, and i can totally see early beta downloads and stuff, maybe do away with the current system of giving out keys with game purchases and so on.

I'm pretty sure it was in reference to comments made during a financial meeting, where Kaz (I think) said that they were looking to add a subscription model of some kind on top of what's already available. Both articles are referring back to the same Media/Investor Conference from last week.

Not true. There have been plenty of games with matchmaking/connectivity issues on Live. I suppose you're just lucky enough to never have experienced any of them.

I'm not interested in playing list wars, but a bit of basic googling will find plenty of examples.

Long as they don't start taxing multiplayer gaming itself, I do not care that they have some sort of premium service.
