While waiting for a prescription to get filled at Walmart, I was wandering around in the electronics section when I spotted something out of place on the rack of ps3 games.

I had it in my hands, I was standing at the register, ready to exchange money for goods and/or services, I was hopeful because I'd gotten things earlier than street date at this store before, and mostly I was freaking excited, because how flipping cool would it be to have one of the pre-recall copies of the game

The guy scanned the game, and the register told him he couldn't sell it to me yet. That actually didn't stop him from trying, but eventually he poked around in the computer and saw that the game wasn't supposed to be out until the 20th (?). I'm tempted to go back on the 20th and try again!

Took this first to make sure I wasn't imagining things

You're not the employee of Walmart, are you? I might feel a little bad if you were.

You haven't read this thread (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/showthread.php?t=1336) yet, have you? :D

If Walmart's not completely out of the loop, those LBPs should be off the shelves by the 20th.

Oh, I read it, and knew it was delayed/recalled while I was at the store. That just made me want to try and get it even more =)

And like I said, I've gotten stuff before street date at that walmart before, but nothing anywhere close to as big as LBP

Ah, my bad! I think I just didn't get the jokiness in your responses in that way (if that makes any sense). :p

Would've been crazy if you'd been able to get a copy of it though! I imagine it'd be worth quite a lot as a collector's item with the original music and all.

no worries...I was implying that if Oldjadedgamer was offended by the thread, perhaps he was actually the employee of walmart that tried very hard to sell me the game. He actually tried scanning it 3 or 4 times trying to get it to work.

You should have hidden it somewhere in the store behind some product no one would ever buy, then bought THAT copy once it launches.

If it's like most Wal-Marts, the cashier has to handle the game up to the point of purchase. Without a sale, they go and put it back in the glass case or behind the counter.

Good idea though if it didn't work that way.

you are correct. He had to take it out of the case, walk it up to the register, and then take it back to the case when he couldn't sell it to me. Otherwise I totally would have tucked it away somewhere

Go get it put in layaway. Maybe they can put in the back and over look it if they do pull the others for the recall. That way you can still beat most people regardless.

You couldn't try to slip the guy a $20 for some kind of supervisor over-ride?

The people who know about games are unloading trucks or pushing carts.

Seriously, the fucking idiots anywhere around electronics do not know shit.
This is true everywhere you fucking go.

I wish I could articulate "LOLZ I USE THE INTERNET" as job experience for those jobs. I'd love to talk to kids about games all day instead of rednecks about tires.

Sigh.

Nope.
To become a CSM or Supervisor capable of doing overrides, you have to pass a dick test.

Only dicks can approve shit.
Dicks hate people like us.

Also, @ Xerxes:
No more layaway.

It's a good thing you weren't allowed to buy it. It's possible that you might have heard music lyrics from the Qur'an in that version, and been inexplicably offended.

The horror.

Ebayed it, got massive profit.

Srsly.
I could see that recalled version being worth something.

Should have bought a few copies. I'm sure you could sell them for easy profit on ebay, now that the game is pushed back.

No way to override a street date, anyhow. You would have to punch it in under Item Not Found or however else you would like to create an item that costs 60 bucks.

Also, I work in Electronics...we aren't all idiots 8-(.

I got LittleBigPlanet, though, and I would like anyone else who has it (or is getting it at launch) to add me on PSN. I'm Katslover, just like everywhere else.

I don't know why I care, though, since you can't do anything online with LittleBigPlanet due to their servers not being up yet.

Yea, you definitely should've somehow bought it blackmarket style.

You lucky bastard....I can never seem to get lucky enough to see any game before release date. Everyone likes to be good about those dates around here.

I DID get LBP last Thursday. Haha. Friend and I are fortunate to know of a store that breaks street dates for every single game. So he bought this before word of the recall. And his ps3 + game are at my house so I get the benefits ;)

Wal-Marts and other stores break retail dates when games get shipped in and do not have the retail date shown. It's the reason why Toys R Us had BioShock out before the game was supposed to be... as the only way for someone there to know what the date was... was to KNOW what the date it was to go on sale was.

Wal-Mart doesn't worry too much about it, as they have a good IT infrastructure that sets up release dates in the system to avoid breaking street dates.

Omg sell it! SELL IT!

This is really FUBAR, silliest thing I've heard for a release of a game.

Yeah... I agree. Why couldn't they have just patched the game after its release?

Because someone could say "no sir, I do not want your patch." then go and bitch about offensive content.
