Yeah, maybe amend the first post but, it's North America Only, PS3 Exclusive Beta, Starting Nov 19th.

No details if there will be a beta on any other platforms. My guess, with 3 months to release, probably not. Maybe a 1 map demo for the PC ahead, but even that is looking unlikely since there is no info at all.

Oh I know. It's just that some probably haven't been following it. They saw the word, "beta," and came lumbering in here drooling. I can't blame them. I would have done the same thing. :cool:

Holy crap the game looks amazing on PS3 (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/12/a-tour-of-battlefield-bad-company-2s-multiplayer/#continued). Permanent deformable terrain? Micro-destruction to change the battlefield to your advantage? I hope it plays as well as it looks.

aww I missed out on the codes. So I went and dropped a preorder at gamestop, but they don't even know how they are distributing it. This does not bode well.
EDIT: just got into the beta, more keys were available today. Really excited for thursday!

Managed to get one. Didn't care for the first game but I didn't do any multiplayer for it either so there's a good chance I may dig what I see in BF:BC2. We'll see. All I'm playing multi at the moment is Uncharted 2 and I enjoy that for what it is so this might find some decent time in my gaming rotation. Who knows.

I actually thought it was a pretty great game, Dostoyevsky, so I'd certainly recommend it.

I'm not getting any xp either. I asked the same question in the matchmaking Bad Company thread. I think it's a bug, because I've seen other players with higher ranks and special weapons. But, maybe they're special somehow.

As far as I know everyone got reset again last night, so people gaining experience probably aren't much better off than anyone else. I imagine rank resets will be quite common.

How's the game differ from BC1? I'm looking forward to playing it (BC2) tonight.

The interface and augmented-reality overlays seem much less obtrusive to me. There are no medal notifications (which I hated terribly in the first game) and there are no dog tags for knife kills, but those are both likely due to the beta status and will probably come later. The knife itself, however, is a wonderful improvement. It's now on R2 (I'm guessing this will be RB on 360) instead of the top face button (triangle or Y) and it's no longer a slash-to-equip, but rather a quick cut like MW's knife, which makes it genuinely useful.

There's a very slow regenerative health model, which means you aren't stuck with a red screen and diminished capacity if you're alone and have no hope of finding someone playing support. The regen really is slow, but there's a proper medic class now, so medkits and the defibrillator are a staple - something that was really missing in BC1.

In general, players are more fragile, and the weapons seem to do a bit more damage, so death seems faster and fairer - it sometimes felt like a whole clip was necessary to get a kill on a full health-target in BC. Weapon accuracy also seems to have been dialed in really well. As was mentioned above, rank and xp seem to be broken/disabled, so most of us are running around with entry level gear, but all the weapons seem to have good shot-grouping, and the hit boxes seem to be legitimate.

The biggest change for me is how they re-jiggered the class-kits. I was a big fan of the spec-ops loadout in BC, but would always find myself switching to the AT loadout to kill a vehicle - something I regretted because I hated the shotgun so much. Now, the shuffle puts the silenced SMG, the AT missile and the repair-kit together in one class (engineer), with the sapper charges going to the sniper (recon) and the previous support class becoming a pure medic. I think the bog-standard soldier got a medkit in place of his adrenaline-plunger. He also keeps the noob-tube, which, it's worth mentioning, seems to be much, much more effective than in BC1 and can be upgraded with different projectile types.

I don't know how the class changes will pan out or what the upgrades and unlocks will amount to, but the gameplay was familiar in all the right places and was really tight overall - it was 3 am before I knew it, and I damn sure plan to go right back tonight, despite the single map and rough edges.

I've been a huge fan of the Battlefield series going all the way back, and if the beta is any indication of the final product, this shit will be a direct hit for me.

Last night I played a match and got 2100 experience, which should've been enough for two or three ranks depending on the curve, but instead, it simply set my current value at a negative equal to the amunt of experience, this ticking me right back to zero.

Yeah I mentioned that a bit earlier. I kinda want to avoid playing till it's fixed, but I wouldn't know where to report it.

It is fun though, I like it a lot.

So I take it beta is up and everything is ok? Seems like the PS3 firmware update is finally working now too. I'll download both of them when I get home from work and give it a whirl.

The points and leveling/unlocks are working again now.

Also, if you want tons of free points, hit the select button when you have an enemy in your sights. It 'spots' them on your team's map and when someone kills them you get a bonus.

Just played a few matches and I really like what I saw. Progressed and got a few unlocks as well. I haven't seen a map with helicopters yet except the little RC one. Are they not in the beta?

If anyone wants to play tonight, hit me up on Steam chat if you have me there, or message me on my ps3 if im online. Steam would work much better.

P.s. Lovin' it. I can't wait to see the other vehicles, maps and the PC version. I'm glad this is more BF 2.5 than anything else; will make the wait a bit easier, for my tastes, after MW2 fell through.

Downloaded this tonight. Was fun for a bit. Never a fan of the constant death of the battlefield games. The graphics left a lot to be desired but it is a beta so hopefully a lot of the graphical problems are fixed by release.

I'll play some more but it's got a lot of polish left.

i was never a big fan of the battlefield series, or shooters on a console, but i like the beta a lot
i just hope they dont fuck up the pc version in some way ;)

a few questions for the bf veterans though, the dogtags are for knife kills right? and the stars for weapons are just stat fluff, or do they affect the wepon damage or something else?
