View Full Version : Torchlight Devs are Awesome Apparently

I just caught this story over on Reddit. There was a link to a RunicGames forum thread (http://forums.runicgames.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=686) where a girl asks if it would be possible to turn off camera shake because of her medical condition. Mere hours later, apparently a dev added in the option to turn camera shake off.

Color me impressed! :)

Options are always good. Never bad. Which is why I like PC gaming so much. I feel I have more options.

I met those guys at PAX. They are awesome.

Wow, that's top notch right there. If I wasn't already buying it, I'd buy it for sure :p

They even called us out on their Twitter (http://twitter.com/runicgames/status/4927316891).
We <3 Colony of Gamers! RT @mightbeoutthere <3 from all of the Colony of Gamers crew. You were one of our favorite titles from PAX.

Bravo to those gentlemen, that's a class act. :D Shameless plug: If you haven't visited it yet, we have a thread running (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/showthread.php?t=12884) where you can ask them questions for our upcoming interview with them, and potentially win yourself a copy of their game, all free like.

So, you know, go do that. ;)

They take a good portion of suggestions into consideration. A friend reads their forums avidly and fairly often they add things into the game from people suggestions, although this is a very different situation and VERY cool.

I kinda considered posting some sort of question related to this, but then decided I didn't want to risk winning. I'd rather pay the money and support them. I'll just post that you guys should tell them they're awesome for doing this. :)

Well, the copies we're giving away will probably be Steam gifts, so certainly nothing's preventing you from gifting a copy to someone else to pay it forward and thus still give Runic $$. ;) But as I mentioned over there, we're also happy to take questions without entering people in the contest if they so choose.

Same here... I've been so out of the loop with gaming over the past year... and now In the past 2 weeks I've spent a good $400 on gaming..... I'm awesome at saving money!

Oh snap! And they've actully bothered to give it a proper pricing, instead of just changing the $ to an €. It's like i cannot love them enough! I'm going to buy this game over and over again, they deserve it!

I'm pre-ordering the game right now. I thought it was the first time I'd done this on Steam, but then I recalled doing the same with the first L4D.

I cannot wait to get my hands on this! :D

That is fantastic that they did that. I love it.

And told them so by pre-ordering.

I wasn't really sure if I was going to buy, with all the other releases this year. I just pre-ordered on Steam because of this.

Just checked the UK price and, as usual, it's overpriced compared to the US. £13.49 which comes out as a little over $22. I'd still like to pick it up, even moreso knowing how cool the devs seem to be, but it's quite far down my list.

SilentScreams

£13.49 is still good value, but it does suck that we always get shafted over prices.
I guess even RunicGames aren't that good.

With that said, it's pretty cool that they made camera shake an option. Even though it probably didn't take a lot of work to do so, it's the gesture that counts.
I don't have whatever medical condition it is that would struggle with something like that, but I'll probably turn camera shake off anyway, as I find it annoying in most games.

That's pretty damn close $18 + $2.80 VAT= $20.80. You're talking 80p difference.

We normally get the shaft, but in this case I don't see it.

I am sure if I asked for a handjob option due to my medical condition they will add it. If I had such a medical condition, that is.

Stop looking at me like that!

YOU DON"T GET TO JUDGE ME YOU BASTARDS!

Nick Breckon of Shacknews loves Torchlight:

Played a ton of Torchlight over the weekend. It's excellent. They really did a great job of touching all the action-RPG bases. And for $20, you can't go wrong.

Did someone say you could buy the game directly off their site? All I can see are the list of partners: http://www.torchlightgame.com/gamenews/2009/10/20/torchlight-partners/

In this case, I'll just get it from Steam then.

They will be selling directly from their site as soon as it launches, they just don't have a pre-order going. Not sure about pricing as I've seen exchange rates vary a lot so just grab the best deal you see.

Just waiting for it to go live now...

Yeah but wanted to give all the $ to Runic. Valve and Steam are cool, but they are still just a digital middleman.

I thought that Perfect World (http://torchlight.perfectworld.com/) was the way to buy directly from them?

Nope, it's listed as a partner site on par with Steam on the URL I linked above.

Time to have a staring contest with my monitor until 6pm when it unlocks on Steam. I'm half tempted to go download one of the leaked copies, but I'm going to resist the urge. At least I have a new copy of Return of the Living Dead to keep me company... and WoW dailies. Oh the WoW dailies...

Unlock dammit -.<

I mentioned this in another thread. It unlocks at 10PM, I have a WoW raid that finishes at 10PM. Coincidence? I think NOT!

I get home from work at 7pm, so I have 3 hours to kill before Torchlight tonight. I guess I'll try and finish Act 4 Nightmare with my D2 Barbarian. :)

Is steam required if you purchase directly from Runic? I'm thinking about picking it up and giving it a try on the netbook. The devs metioned they played it on a netbook in the FAQ.

Ravenlock

Steam is not required if you purchase directly from Runic (though I still don't think we know exactly how that's going to work), and the game does have a "Netbook mode" in the options, though I have not yet tried it on a netbook.

I hope a lot of people buy this game. (1) To show there is a market for games that are not off the charts when it comes to system specs. (2) I want lots of mods. (3) These guys seem awesome!

And it's currently only $18 on Steam. I'm thinking I might have to pick this up as an early birthday present. :D

They would be even more awesome if they would unlock the game already!

I'm not really mad, just impatient! :p

I started a new thread to discuss the game. I figured this would work better than the current, somewhat disjointed conversation happening across multiple threads:
