Microsoft has announced that Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas has been added to their Xbox Originals line-up and will be available to purchase from October 20th, 2008.

Set in the early 90’s, Carl “CJ” Johnson returns home to the city of Los Santos, San Andreas—a city tearing itself apart with gang trouble, drugs and corruption. His mother has been murdered, his family has fallen apart and his childhood friends are all heading towards disaster. On his return to the neighborhood, a couple of corrupt cops frame him for homicide. CJ is forced on a journey that takes him across the entire state of San Andreas to save his family and to take control of the streets.

Immerse yourself in the seedy state of San Andreas, a vast and rich gameplay environment limited only by your imagination.

Relive the last 30 seconds of gameplay with instant replays.

Create custom soundtracks to craft your own personalized radio station of early 1990s anthems.

Explore the three huge cities of San Andreas: Los Santos, San Fierro and Las Venturas. The immense state is six times the size of Vice City and features varied environments such as deserts, rolling countryside, truck stops, forests, mountains, and dozens of small towns.

Take control of nearly 200 types of vehicles in the game. Everything from BMX bikes, motorcycles, aircraft, trucks, cars, boats, hovercraft, and more are at your disposal.

Customize your ride with sound systems, nitro packs, rims, bumpers, upholstery, and other options.

Play mini-games like basketball, pool, dancing, low-rider hopping, Vegas games, and old-school arcade games.

Grab a friend and take part in select two-player cooperative missions.

GTA: San Andreas is rated M for Mature by the ESRB and will cost you 1200 Microsoft Points ($15).

As with all of these, just drive to the store and save yourself $9 and the 5GB of HDD space.

Cool if you only have a 360 and enjoyed San Andreas. $15 is a little steep though for the one game. Pay an extra $15 and get the remaining 4 GTA games on Steam.

1200 msp = $15.

Edit: Huh, I wonder why my quoting messed up the cases.

What store is selling this game for a dollar? I'm not aware of that deal.

I edited, I was going with the $20 assumption. But $6 is about right used for the game these days.

Ah, gotcha. I don't buy used games, but if it's six bucks on eBay or whatever, then I guess most people would opt for that.

Honestly, some days I'd pay that extra 9$ not to get up out of my chair.

I loved this game. It was a great, long, story. It was something that could only have been done in video game form. And it was fun.

I've thought about grabbing this off of Steam sometime. I never did play it back when it came out.

Not if it's similar to other Xbox Originals.

Too bad I think something like that would entice people like me (achievement whores) to potentially consider the purchase. As it is why not just do as other posters have suggested and buy a used copy? Isn't there like a GTA double pack even for sale? No never mind that's GTA 3 and Vice City.

I picked up the whole Rockstar catalog on Steam a few weeks ago when they had the weekend deal for $30. So this seems like a rip off.

Try to play it on your PC, and then play it on a console. The graphics are better on PC, but even with an XBOX 360 controller, the controls are fucked.

If you were to get this on a console, you're essentially paying for a much better control scheme - one that makes the game playable. I had no problems with the flying missions on my PS2, but due to some wonky x-y-z axis settings on the PC, I couldn't enjoy that game at all over Steam.

What? I played the entire GTA3 trilogy on PC and found the controls far better than on consoles.

I wish I knew what settings you used. Maybe it was just because I played it on the PS2 first and always wanted it to feel like that.

Maybe if I replayed it now without that bias I wouldn't have that problem, but I remember at the time it first came out, the controls kept me from the replay I had been looking forward to.

I had similar distaste for the PC controls on San Andreas. I just never got it to feel right. I beat the game on the PS2, but couldn't do simple missions on the PC. Oh well.
