I was messing around this afternoon, and thought I'd offer up the fruit of my messing (that sounds wrong, doesn't it?).

Anyway, I put together a slightly flashier Editor's Choice graphic.

http://home.pacbell.net/ven_rand/editorschoice2.gif

If you like it, keep it. If not, no harm done. :D

If anyone else would like to offer up graphics for the site, you're more than welcome to also post them here (assuming that's alright with the moderators).

Pffffff overachiever.

Ha! You obviously don't know me very well. ;)

Here's a second version that... well... it makes more sense. Ya know... like a cog... spinning along the axis that one might expect a cog to spin on. I also cleaned up the kerning a little bit.

Looks awesome Spectre. Keep those creativity cogs turning.

Looks pretty good, Spectre. Stop the animation on the second one and that's a damned fine modification, me thinks.

Wow, both of them are great! I think you're right, the spinning cogs suit the site quite well.

Those are great. Good job.

But I still think the header graphic needs a slight change. Like making the 'C' the cog logo. The flag logo is too small.

I agree with that, the C should be a cog.

While both are great, I like the second one a lot more. The second just seems a lil more original and exciting while also not stealing my attention as much.

Yeah, good work. Keep it up, man

Agreed. The second one is less distracting, a little classier and also fits the whole CoG motif better (obviously).

The second one is fucking awesome. First one is pretty slick as well. Good job, man!

That is really nice. We should have a CoG Editor's warning type thing if a game is really bad where the cog stops or breaks and everything grinds to halt.

Haha, that would be funny. Spectre, make this a reality! :D

Fantastic, especially the second one. Also, I agree that one breaking/grinding to a halt would be excellent.

Wow. Awesome job. Feel free to mess around with stuff over at IGC. We still need a logo of some type. We've got the header, but something we can put on shirts or cards would be nice.

This shit is awesome.

If the Editor's won't use it, get Editors choice out of image and I'll use.

Yeah, if you could get the Editor's Choice text removed, I've love to use the image for our Good Reads group.

What if I replace the text instead?

Edit: Just noticed that I boned something up there. New version in a couple minutes.

Edit2: Fixed and updated.

Edit3: Updated again. Raised light-level on book.

Spectre, any way of making that animated cog as a TF2 spray? That would be hot shit.

I made a half-hearted attempt last week with a different spinning cog, but I was having trouble keeping the file size down. Apparently, it has to be under 120k or it just won't work.

I think this newer cog might work a little better, though. It doesn't seem to need as many frames to look good, and that should help.

I'll give it another shot. Not doing much else this weekend. :)

Its still too specific. Now it only works for the good read section.

How about Member's Choice. Instead of Editor Reviews, Member Reviews. :D

Heh, I'd be "jealous" if I didn't have to do 3d modeling and animation for work. ;-)

They look good, but he messed with the kerning of the fonts, and I have a very strict "no animated GIF" policy in terms of the site graphics. I'm glad people like them, they deserve to be liked, and Spectre has some nice Blender skills (I think he said that was his program of choice).

Hey, hey... I know it's in jest, but all the same, I don't think we really need to see comments of this sort. I'd hate to see people start making light of Mike's work around here.

Thanks again for the kind words everyone, and cheers for an all around bang-up job on the site, Mike! :D
