View Full Version : An Opprotunity...

So today I got an email from a recruiter (looked them up and they appear reputable) saying they saw my resume on monster and have an opprotunity that I might be interested in - similar to how I got my last job, i recieved an email pretty much the same.
I replied and asked some more information and the guy gave me the name of the company. I went to the company website and saw the job listed on thier website.
So should I continue with the recruiter and go in, meet with him yada yad yada the same thing I did when I went through an agency before or simply apply to position myself? I have previously worked with an agency before and haven't had any problems with them.

I will take that as 'apply myself'. its what i was tempted to do but had that guilty conscious becuase of the recruiter contact. After thinking about it, it was most likely a generic email sent out based on a keyword search of resumes in the databank.
applying now. thanks.
EDIT - well as it turns out when I setup my profile on the direct apply link, once i saved my profile I had applied to the position. Time will tell.... now to dodge recruiter calls.

I always try and meet people in person whenever I can. Gives you a chance to network, which proves valuable in the future.

Don't mention to your potential employer that you heard about it from the recruiter. Might seem obvious but it's one of those things that could just slip out if you're not prepared for it. I would imagine that going through the recruiter might make it easier to get you the interview as well, as they tend to really sell your skillset so you get the job so they get the fat $$$.

As someone that's been on the job hunt for almost a year now... you take ANY advantage you can get. If you think it'll help in the slightest, jump all over it.

I would normally lean with going with the recruiter, as you know you already have your foot in the door. There would be no guarantee of getting noticed if you apply directly and it could result in awkwardness if you rock up for the interview and they realise you're the guy who's direct application they chose to ignore (for whatever reason).
In my experience, whether you went direct or via a recruiter, the pay was the same.

thanks for the info and i won't be saying i heard it from a recruiter. I know that if I go the way of the recruiter it will be a 'come down to their office and meet them and talk so they can pitch me to the company' - i can skip that thanks. Hopefully all goes well.
I'll keep you posted!

Man, I wish I was cool enough to have recruiters call me. Shit, I was such a hippie in high school that even the military recruiters never tried to call me!
